M1 Garand ( Close Up )

Close-up video of the venerable M1 Garand, This is a WWII vintage model from Springfield. If only this old war baby could speak!!! If you have not seen the Clint Eastwood movie "Gran Torino," you won't get the "Get off my lawn" allusion or understand why I saved that line for this video. :-)

M1 GARAND semi automatic rifle

The M1 Garand (formally the United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1) was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued to the infantry in any nation. In 1936, it officially replaced the bolt-action Springfield M1903 rifle as the standard service rifle of the United States military (the M1903 retaining a valuable role as a sniper rifle), and was subsequently replaced by the select-fire M14 in 1957. However, the M1 continued to be used in large numbers until 1963, and to a lesser degree until 1966.

topping of the old M1 Garand rifle

This is in response to the two videos of the guys toping off the grand, just a different technique that holds the bolt for you so you right hand is free to load. as always this is a one take video an old man told me "once you have one you'll never be without one." (the previous owner of this particular gun) all matching Springfield "except the stock and no lockbar rear sight" I'm here to tell you he is right buy one while you can great collector and even better shooter recoil is minimal for the huge 30-06 round, the biggest US service round used in infantry service rifle.

2010 BARC M1 Garand

This is footage taken of my shooting in the 2010 Bay Area Rifle Championship. There were seven stages, including a 200 yard stage. Unfortunitly the camera ran out of memory during the second to last stage and my hat cam I had wasn't working all day. All in all, still some good footage and things to learn from. I suffered malfunctions and brain farts throughout the day and didn't perform as good as I would have liked, but it was still good enough to grab 1st M1 Garand shooter and mid pack in the Limited division. My Garand had a few malfunctions that were caused by a weak spring the holds the clip in place. It also seemed to have a few failures to feed (didn't recoil enough to pickup the next round) which I think were due to a weak spring on the gas plug. This was one hell of a fun match to go out and shoot. I fought my Garand all day long and it fought back. I've got a blood blister on my palm and a bruise from shoving the bolt home. All and all though I'll definitly be back next year.

1944 WWII M1 Garand (M1-E8) sniper rifle at 420 yards

I love the restoration of the greatest rifle ever manufactured, the M1 Garand. This is one of my babies; this is my fully restored WWII era M1-E8 Garand sniper rifle. (M81 2.5x scope on a Springfield Armory mount, with cross-hairs. Standardized for snipers in September 1944) Everything on this rifle is authentic with the exception of the check piece and sling, which are reproductions. The M1E8 was designated the M1D and adopted as a "substitute standard" in September 1944. Virtually no M1Ds were produced during WWII. Since all M1Ds (with the exception of the tool room models) fall into the category of "rebuilds" there is no serial number range generally associated with this version of the M1 sniper rifle.

Shooting the M1 Garand

SAFETY NOTE: It is common safety practice to shoot semi-automatic weapons with eye protection in addition to the universal practice of using ear protection. You will see that we are not always wearing eye protection in this video. Half way through the shoot, we realized the rifle was consistently ejecting brass in front of the shooter in a nice, easy-to-pick-up pile. Eye protection is a must when you are NEXT to someone that is shooting a semi-automatic firearm, and we would advise you to use eye protection at all times regardless of the situation. This is a video of my buds and me shooting my M1 Garand. The rifle is a Springfield Armory 5.7 million serial number rifle made in 1955. I just recently got it from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for $617, which is the price for a Service Grade M1. The rifle itself is in great condition, the bore is in excellent shape and the stock has minor dings. The finish is about 95%+ and it came coated in grease, which explains the gloves. When it heated up it was sweating grease from the wood and crevices of the parts, so expect to spend the first half hour cleaning off the dripping grease with a rag. It is also extremely accurate, it shoots dead center when the front sight is dead middle of the gas cylinder and the rear sights are set for no windage and lowest elevation (200 yards). It has some kick but I would say that it doesn't "kick like a mule." The weight of the rifle plus the semi-automatic action reduce recoil a great ...
M1 Garand.

I need some opinions on if I should buy this beautiful, historical battle rifle. I have actually in the past advised some people not to buy the real pretty no scratch surplus firearm. I love the old looking patina of an old surplus rifle. This is completely different but it is different in a good way. This rifle was refurbished privately by an ex military armorer and He knew what He was doing. He put together His Garand's with dates in mind. All the Garand's this man refurbished was matched to the best of his abilities to be as close to what rolled off the assembly line as possible.. I am a little torn. On one hand we have a flawless rifle that is almost perfect in every way, including dated parts. On the other hand, it was refurbished privately and not at the military armory. I have always been a little leary of private rebuilds, especially when it comes to Garands and M1 Carbines. However, John bought this rifle from a man whom He had researched thoroughly and we know He did it right and with Him being a military armorer, this gun exhibits His skills and training with particular attention to detail such as all period correct parts. So, I ask you all, my great subscribers, What should I do ??? Buy or No Buy ??? Please I am really looking for everyones opinion on this and yes, if I buy it, there will be plenty of vids of the Garand. Thanks to all and God Bless.

M1 Garand Rifle: WW2, Korea, Vietnam War Winner or Troop Killer?

M1 Garands: En Bloc Clip-Feed, 8-Shot, Main Battle Rifles "In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised" -- General George S. Patton, Jr. Like the M14, SKS and FN FAL which can shoot ammo from magazine and stripper clips, the M1 Garand can shoot 8 shots from a special "en bloc" clip. These en blocs can already be loaded with ammo in storage without concern of a magazine spring wearing out. The next M16A5 should be modular to shoot different ammo types and be able to be stripper clip fed. Until such time that this is solved so we are not magazine dependant to fire US service rifles/carbines, the previously mentioned weapons can be utilized with minimalist ammunition/loading means. A "Grab & Go" Pouch from Olongapo Outfitters carries 12 x 8-round en blocs for a total of 96 ready rounds. Available in multiple colors to include Multi-Cam. www.olongapooutfitters.com Olongapo outfitters also makes Garand en bloc pouches that MOLLE connect to current USMIL load bearing vests. jerry@olongapooutfitters.com M1 Garands from Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) www.thecmp.org You can buy a M1 Garand for about $500. http By law, the CMP can sell surplus military firearms, ammunition, parts and other items only to members of CMP affiliated clubs who are also US citizens, over 18 years of age and who are legally eligible to purchase a firearm. Assault Fire However, the M1 Garand has some serious problems that have resulted in US troop deaths in battle. IT ...
