SOCOM 16 M1-A

Demonstrating the nifty little 7.62X51 SOCOM 16, the "carbine" version of the venerable M1A/M14. I want to thank Springfield for sending me this gun to review. For more information on the M1A / M14 - www.youtube.com

M14 vs Block Wall at 250 Yards

A cinder block wall at 250 yards might not be adequate cover from the 7.62X51 NATO round and that wonderful rifle, the M1-A / M14. My goal was to put rounds all over the wall; you know, "spread the wealth around." Shooting off-hand, that was bound to happen anyway, of course. :-) Be sure to catch the entire video; I think you'll enjoy it. This is going to be one of my favorite videos, I think, for whatever that is worth. Educational Video on the M1A / M14 - www.youtube.com

Steel Eating ( Rifle rounds vs steel)

Shooting the AR-15, the M1-A, & the SKS at thick steel: a close-up perspective. Shots were taken from behind a large tree at approximately 40 yards. Guns used: Russian SKS, Colt AR-15 A2, Springfield M1-A Disclaimer: Lots of discussion about 5.56 vs .223 and 7.62 X 51 vs .308. The guns you see me use in this video will fire either one safely, so no issue for me. Never HAS been. Be sure you do your research and shoot what your guns will handle. I have to explain this about once a week, it seems; most people have limited experience shooting 7.62X39 rounds at steel, which is understandable, of course. :-) I've shot both hollow point and FMJ 7.62X39 at soft steel for many years. The FMJ and the hollow point have pretty much the exact same effect on it. HPs are not exactly designed to expand in steel. :-) See my folllow-up video that I finally did all these months later: www.youtube.com

Gas Operated Rifle?

Did you know that the AR-15, M1-A, AK-47, etc are all "Gas Operated"? Many of you know exactly what this is about, but I suspect there are quite a few relatively new shooters who have not thought about what that means. This is another video intended for newer shooters and the Basics Playlist, but there could be some fairly experienced shooters are are not all that familiar with how these guns work.

M1 Garand by Springfield Armory - Owner Report / Review

This is the initial owner report / review of my M1 Garand. I bought it from the Civilian marksmanship Program ( CMP ). It only took a few weeks to arrive and i'm very pleased. New features like the stock, handgard, and barrel make it look great. The reciver is refurbished USGI and appears to date to December 1944. Check out the CMP if you're looking for a Garand. They have lots of grade to choose from..

Trial by Fire: M1A SOCOM II in "The Sledgehammer" (Prelim Run)

The 7.62x51mm is a M1A SOCOM II is a recreational high for me: it's fun to run and shoot in a course of fire like the TNP "Sledgehammer." Here I do a prelim run with it, using an EOTECH XPS2-2 as the optic and a KZ 2-point sling. I had my doubts how the I'd do without magnification but the SOCOM turns in an impressive run and it would get only better with practice (and if fresh...the run came at the end of a long cold day out in the desert!). The gun is still too heavy for my all-around tactical carbine but it is very reliable, accurate, and ultimately cool. ////////////////////////// Music: Derek Audette

Review of Springfield Armory M1A rifle - .308 / M14

This is a review of the Springfield Armory M1A, which SA calls the MA9102. It's the standard model with the walnut stock. It should provide some useful information iif you're considering buying one, or if you are just interested in them. I tried to cover the overall aspects of the gun as best as possible, within 10 minutes. The M!A is available in many versions - different stocks, barrel lengths, and has additional sighting options. I just got this rifle, so a part two may be added later that would be a follow-up showing me shooting it at the gun range, and how it feels to actually use it. There will be many more things to add at that point. I'd recommend getting one if you can, since M1As have a great reputation, are very useful, and are a well made rifle. Buy one if you can find a model you like!! I may post some additional gun review videos as time permits. Hope you enjoy this one. Thanks for watching!

Owner Report / Review - Springfield Armory M1A .308 / M14

This is my owners report of the Springfield Armory M1A. This model is called the MA9102 - it's the standard model with the walnut stock. I'll discuss the rifle based on my experience of owning and shooting it. I want to pass along some information in case you are looking at buying one. Weight, recoil, customization, magazine capacity and misc items are covered. I'm sure there is a version you will like, since they are available in many models with different stocks, barrel lengths, and additional sighting options. M1As have a great reputation based on their long service with the US military. Home defense, hunting or just sport shooting the M1A can handle it!! Based on my experience, I'd recommend buying one since they have a great reputation, are fun to shoot, and are very well made. Thanks for watching!

Shooting M1A rifle .308 - 20 rds & really smokes!!

Here is some range time with Springfield Armory's M1A & 20 round magazine. It shoots very well, and the recoil isn't as bad as you might think. You feel it for sure, but you get used to it. Accuracy is very good, even with me shooting while standing. Note the smoke after I'm done - it got very hot!. I think it was just burning off some of the factory lube. I waited 10-15 minutes for it to cool before putting it in the case - even then it was still very warm. Plus look for the gas venting out of the bottom near the gas chamber. I was using Remington UMC and Ferderal's American Eagle both in .308 150 gr. More range time and owners report to come.

Quick look at a recent purchase. The Springfield Armory M1A Socom II is a great rifle. Took it to the range over the weekend and it was a pure pleasure to shoot. No jams or malfunction of any sort. History of M1 Carbine

David Marshal Williams was born in Cumberland County, North Carolina eldest of seven children. As a young boy, he worked on his family's farm. He dropped out of school after eighth grade and began work in a blacksmith shop, enjoyed a short stint in Navy, but was discharged because he was underage. After returning from the Navy, he spent a semester at Blackstone Military Academy before being expelled. In 1918, he married Margaret Cooke and they later had one child, David Marshall, Jr. Williams worked for Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, but on the side he had an illegal distillery near Godwin, North Carolina. During a raid on this still on July 22, 1921, a deputy sheriff Alfred Jackson Pate was shot and killed, and Williams was charged with first degree murder. The trial ended in a hung jury, but Williams decided to plead guilty to a lesser charge of second degree murder. He was given a 20-30 year sentence. While serving time at the Caledonia State Prison Farm in Halifax County, North Carolina the superintendent, HT Peoples, noted his mechanical aptitude and allowed him access to the prison's machine shop where he demonstrated a genius for fashioning replacement parts for the guards' firearms from pieces of scrap automobile parts. In prison, he would save paper and pencils and stay up late at night drawing plans for various firearms. His extraordinary skills in the machine shop permitted him to stay ahead of his assignments and allowed him time for his own hobby. He began ...

M1 Carbine - WW2 US Military .30 Rifle

Review and shooting test of the .30 M1 Carbine, a 1943 Inland-General Motors model. I included a segment with close-ups to view the condition of the rifle in detail and any markings. Shooting segments are at 100 yards on steel targets and include a picture-in-picture aspect of the target camera. In the video, I cited the M1's use in WW2, but it was also a standard in Korea, and according to my research, very early stages in Vietnam. Based on the condition of this rifle at the time of purchase, I suspect it had not been fired in several years, although I could be wrong. The rifling is in very good condition, and there wasn't even the hint of smell of burned powder or cleaning solvents. Just a dry, old rifle that possibly had been sitting in someone's collection for nostalgic purposes. There were just over 6 million M1's produced from 1941 to 1945. Obviously, many have been lost or destroyed. These are becoming more difficult to find in good condition, and prices are triple what they were 20 years ago when I first had the desire to acquire an M1. It is also great to see the M1 gaining somewhat of a cult status with the current generation based on its inclusion in POV video games. The only element I might add to this rifle is a sling, that's it. No plans to add optics or convert it to a folding stock model. I like it the way it is, and plan for the M1 to be a permanent item in my collection. There will be additional videos shooting the M1 at various distances, and it will ...

Combative Edge M1: "Thin, Fast Fighter" by Nutnfancy

The Combative Edge M1 is a big blade. But it's a fighting blade and maybe that's what the loadout calls for. From the outset, this new blade is designed as a folding fighting knife, pure and simple. If you haven't heard of Combative Edge blades, don't worry. That's my job and this video will change that. Designer Rob Walker's M1 gets many things right which is impressive for a first design. It's fast in deployment and you can choose either the well-designed thumbstuds or the flipper. The phoshor bronze bushings and excellent overall balance of the blade provide this amazing speed for such a large slab of steel. Lockup is solid and wiggle-free in this titanium framelock. In some tough cardboard testing some loosening was noted but it tightened up again with a little work on the pivot screw and Lock-Tite. The blade shape is organic and cuts aggressively. Tip is strong and the N690 steel holds an edge well, has excellent rust resistance, and sharpens easy enough. Very VG10-like. For me this M1's blade is a bit thick at about 4mm. That probably accounts for the knife's 5.3 ounce carry weight. But for a blade of this size, it's still reasonable. The blackened loop pocket clip reverses for tip-up or down (not ambi however) and carries deeply. The CE M1 also has some impressive ergos: deep finger choil and an effective guard and whadda' know, the finger ridges (jimping) on the knife in all sections are outstanding. Despite the knife's welcome thinness, the M1 rides very securely ...

M1 Carbine at 200 Yards (UNPLANNED VIDEO - LOL)

This was originally a private video to share with another YouTuber, but they were quite adamant about me posting it. This is essentially unedited, with the exception of a "bleep" or two. If you've been around TNOUTDOORS9 long enough, I'm pretty tight with editing and avoiding crappy camera angles, moving the camera, etc. That is not the case here! This was filmed after a long day on the range that was constantly interrupted by rain and storms. I had brought the M1 along and was hoping to try this at the end of the day. This rifle is too much fun to shoot, low recoil and seems to be reasonably accurate for a military surplus rifle built nearly 70 years ago! In any event, my very first long range test with the .30 M1 carbine, 200 yards, and this rifle built in 1943 by Inland (General Motors) proved to be accurate. Ammo was Aguila 110 gr FMJ.
