Trial by Fire: M1A SOCOM II in "The Sledgehammer" (Prelim Run)

The 7.62x51mm is a M1A SOCOM II is a recreational high for me: it's fun to run and shoot in a course of fire like the TNP "Sledgehammer." Here I do a prelim run with it, using an EOTECH XPS2-2 as the optic and a KZ 2-point sling. I had my doubts how the I'd do without magnification but the SOCOM turns in an impressive run and it would get only better with practice (and if fresh...the run came at the end of a long cold day out in the desert!). The gun is still too heavy for my all-around tactical carbine but it is very reliable, accurate, and ultimately cool. ////////////////////////// Music: Derek Audette

Review of Springfield Armory M1A rifle - .308 / M14

This is a review of the Springfield Armory M1A, which SA calls the MA9102. It's the standard model with the walnut stock. It should provide some useful information iif you're considering buying one, or if you are just interested in them. I tried to cover the overall aspects of the gun as best as possible, within 10 minutes. The M!A is available in many versions - different stocks, barrel lengths, and has additional sighting options. I just got this rifle, so a part two may be added later that would be a follow-up showing me shooting it at the gun range, and how it feels to actually use it. There will be many more things to add at that point. I'd recommend getting one if you can, since M1As have a great reputation, are very useful, and are a well made rifle. Buy one if you can find a model you like!! I may post some additional gun review videos as time permits. Hope you enjoy this one. Thanks for watching!

Shooting M1A rifle .308 - 20 rds & really smokes!!

Here is some range time with Springfield Armory's M1A & 20 round magazine. It shoots very well, and the recoil isn't as bad as you might think. You feel it for sure, but you get used to it. Accuracy is very good, even with me shooting while standing. Note the smoke after I'm done - it got very hot!. I think it was just burning off some of the factory lube. I waited 10-15 minutes for it to cool before putting it in the case - even then it was still very warm. Plus look for the gas venting out of the bottom near the gas chamber. I was using Remington UMC and Ferderal's American Eagle both in .308 150 gr. More range time and owners report to come.

Enhanced, Modernized Springfield M1A - VLTOR DMR M14

Review of an enhanced, modernized Springfield M1A rifle. Based on the ubiquitous M14 military rifle, the M1A remains one of the favorite battle rifles in America. This M1A has been enhanced with a VLTOR M14 Modstock, Smith Enterprise and Sadlak parts, a Nikon Monarch Scope, LaRue Tactical bipod and Versa-Pod picatinny adapter. This modernized M14 rifle represents my take on the Designated Marksman Rifle concept, with less bulk and weight than the typical SAGE EBR setup.

Springfield Armory M1A .308 - close up look at two things

Here is a close up look at two points of the M1A, you may not have seen. I wanted to review where & how the cleaning supplies can be stored in the butt-stock and provide a close up look of the rotating bolt. Since these rifles are based on the M14 and M1 Garand, these are not new features, but they add to the character of these fine rifles. The Garand action was shortened to handle the new 7.62 x 51mm round .308, but they are quite similar. The rifle is dirty since I hadn't cleaned it since it was used - it has been cleaned since! I hope this helps you learn a bit more about these guns and you enjoy watching it too!!

LR Baggs M1A active pickup. How to install the M1A on a guitar

I've installed this M1A LR Baggs active pickup on my Martin D-1 acoustic today. I recorded this tune using the Inspire PreSonus 1394 and CUbase software. The Martin is played through a Roland Jazz Chorus 77. I don't know if I like using this Amp with this LR Baggs unit. I made a short slide show of the project. This is the way I set up for the strap jack installation. I secured the Guitar in my vise (Velcro the strings out of the way) and removed the strap and end pin. The pickup's destructions called for a ½ inch hole. This is too big and the jack would be a little to loose for me. I measured the thing and decided to use a 15/32 installation hole. I reamed the hole from both sides and tapped the correct diameter hole slowly with a 15/32 bit. I repositioned the device in the sound hole. Use a guitar string to pull it through the tail block, tighten the nut down, and install the strap button. Next, I secured the wire down using the enclosed self-stick clips and restrung the guitar. Shake the guitar gently to see if the wire might be a little loose somewhere inside, you don't want it to flop around while playing. Next, install the pickup in the sound hole. Loosen the screws on either side of the pickup's top plate and clamp it to the lip on the sound hole. Don't over tighten! Each pole piece is adjustable for each string height. Plug in the guitar and check it out. I don't know why I waited so long to get one of these?

Springfield Armory M1A National Match on a Troy MCS - the Battle Wagon!

A short video reviewing my M1A that's currently installed on a Troy MCS, Modular Chassis System. I really like this system though it definitely changes the balance of the rifle making it much more front-heavy than an M1A in a standard stock. It weighs 12.5lbs with an empty 20rd magazine as shown in the video and as well, so it's no lightweight either. I have the MCS configured with a Hogue rubber AR grip and a 6 position Rock River Arms stock with buttpad, and am currently using a GripPod bipod grip. The rifle features a medium profile National Match (NM) barrel and two stage National Match trigger assembly. I have retrofitting it with a Sadlak Industries extended magazine release, and two components from Smith Enterprises - a USCG muzzle brake and an extended bolt release (forgot to mention that in the video. I have three optics systems for the rifle - the first being an EOTech 512 65.1 with or without a Mako 5X Magnifier, the second being a 4-16 X 50mm Millett TRS (Tactical Rifle Scope) on a monolithic 30mm mount (can't remember the brand offhand) with lapped HD rings, and the third being a set of YHM low profile flip-up BUIS. I am running a GG&G three point sling on a front rail mounted GG&G QD mount to allow quick separation of the lower chassis from the barrel / upper rail assembly for ease of service and cleaning.

M1A Shoot

This is a real quick video of me shooting a friend's Springfield Armory M1A. He got his off gunbroker for $1260 and it was in brand new condition. Please excuse the fidgeting, we were having problems with the "bench rest" we had. Official nomenclature: US rifle, caliber 7.62mm, M14 is a gas-operated, magazine-fed, air-cooled, semi-automatic, and automatic weapon. Its main design came from the M1 Garand, the most notable changes being a detachable 20-round magazine, different caliber (7.62 NATO as opposed to 30.06 Springfield), different "tap-back" gas system, full-auto capability, and a 5-slot "star" flash suppressor. The M1A is the civilian version of the M14 service rifle. The M14 rifle replaced the M1 Garand and was adopted by the US Military after the Korean War but saw limited combat in Vietnam before being replaced by the M16A1. The M14 has still been in use with the Navy Seals since its inception, as well as other spec ops units using it even when the M16 was the main issued rifle. Due to recent needs, the M14 has begun getting dusted off and sent to the sandbox with regular units in large quantities and are used in the designated marksman role. The M14 has also been the standard-issue rifle of the United States Military Academy at Westpoint, the Air Force Academy, the United States Naval Academy, The Citadel, and last by not least, my school, the Virginia Military Institute. It was great being able to shoot the rifle I had always been drilling with. This rifle is <b>...</b>

Ruger Frontier Rifle with M1A magazine

Rugers new Gunsite Scout rifle: www.ruger.com *****This is for information purposes only. This is what I did to MY rifle. If you are contemplating such a modification CONSULT A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH.***** This is the Ruger Frontier rifle chambered in .308 Winchester. The scope is a Leupold FX-II Scout Rifle Scope 2.5x 28mm. A ten round M1A magazine was modified for this conversion. The feed lips of the magazine must be trimmed back and a notch must be cut to clear the rifle ejector. This renders the magazine useless as a removable magazine. Once the M1A magazine is modified the factory magazine, trigger guard and floor plate are removed. I added a washer to the front screw to anchor the stock at the recoil lug area. The M1A magazine is inserted into place and the trigger guard is then replaced on the rifle. The forward edge of the trigger guard keeps pressure against the latch on the rear of the M1A magazine. The rifle was not modified in any way and could be returned to factory condition in about five minutes. Sadly I no longer own this rifle. I never should have sold it. I am currently building a scout rifle from a .308 Stevens 200 that will have a similar magazine configuration.

Owner Report / Review - Springfield Armory M1A .308 / M14

This is my owners report of the Springfield Armory M1A. This model is called the MA9102 - it's the standard model with the walnut stock. I'll discuss the rifle based on my experience of owning and shooting it. I want to pass along some information in case you are looking at buying one. Weight, recoil, customization, magazine capacity and misc items are covered. I'm sure there is a version you will like, since they are available in many models with different stocks, barrel lengths, and additional sighting options. M1As have a great reputation based on their long service with the US military. Home defense, hunting or just sport shooting the M1A can handle it!! Based on my experience, I'd recommend buying one since they have a great reputation, are fun to shoot, and are very well made. Thanks for watching!

Pacing a PRR M1a Mountain (1955)

*Watch in HD and Pump Volume Up* John M. Prophet III made this recording in September of 1955. This is definitely what I'd consider the best vintage audio recording of a PRR locomotive....you can clearly hear the chuffs, the drivers clanking, as well as the cars driving by them. And let's not forget that gorgeous Pennsy whistle! From Track Description... "A Class M1a on an eastbound freight picking up speed after slowing down at Duncannon, Pa. The engineman acknowledges the car pacing and recording the locomotive with short whistling." From "Steam On The Standard Railroad Of The World Vol. II" by Semaphore Records. Lionel 6-38056 Pennsylvania M1a Steam Locomotive Did you know, that most PRR engines have one or two unique features depending on year and model: one is the doghouse on the steam engine tender that the brakeman rides in and the second is the attenna used to communicate with the PRR signal system. (not present on this engine, because it ran before the system was installed) In 1939, railroads from across the United States gathered the finest locomotives from their motive power stables at the Worlds Fair in New York City. Among the iron horses presented by the Pennsylvania Railroad was #6759, one of the 301 4-8-2 Mountain types built for the railroad. Originally built as dual-purpose locomotives, only a handful ever headed passenger consists. The M1s really distinguished themselves hauling freight. Almost immediately after they had entered service in 1926, the Pennsy M1s proved themselves legendary with powerful hauling capabilities and an immediate positive impact on the railroads financial bottom line. Engineers and executives alike referred to the M-class as Pennsys best. The scale-sized Lionel M1a faithfully recreates the #6759 as she appeared in the 1930s with a classic slatted pilot reminiscent of the K4s passenger locomotives and an unobstructed smokebox, before the infamous Pennsy facelifts of the mid-forties dropped the generator across the boiler front and added a solid pilot.
