This is a 7 minute short version of the 80 minute DVD we just produced as a companion video for my book The Ultimate Band Saw Boxes Book. I tried to show some of the techniques for safely using the power tools, as well as showing some of the major steps in making the boxes. I've added a lot of comments to this video to clarify some things- they are not in the actual video. If things go too fast use the pause button to read the comments. This video shows xbmc as an airplay target. The hack is actually running on a Ubuntu Box. It involves XBMC (of course), Avahi for broadcasting the airplay service and a custom python script which handles the interaction with the iPad. What's currently _not_ working: *) when re-watching a video, xbmc ask if it shall continue on the last postion or start over. Shows the program I use to convert videos from various sources to easy formats that can be used in other video editing programs. MPEG Streamclip is from www.squared5.com and is Freeware If you are on a Mac then to use FLV files in this program you will have to install the System Preferences plugin from www.perian.org which is OpenSource (Free) Both of these pieces of software are free but appreciation goes to the relevant persons involved in creating them. They certainly make my life easier, and help the kids at my school with their MovieMaker and Powerpoint presentations. Happy days.

** PLEASE READ THE CAPTION TO UNDERSTAND THIS VIDEO ** The left clip is a segment of a Hollywood movie trailer that the subject viewed while in the magnet. The right clip shows the reconstruction of this segment from brain activity measured using fMRI. The procedure is as follows: [1] Record brain activity while the subject watches several hours of movie trailers. [2] Build dictionaries (ie, regression models) that translate between the shapes, edges and motion in the movies and measured brain activity. A separate dictionary is constructed for each of several thousand points at which brain activity was measured. (For experts: The real advance of this study was the construction of a movie-to-brain activity encoding model that accurately predicts brain activity evoked by arbitrary novel movies.) [3] Record brain activity to a new set of movie trailers that will be used to test the quality of the dictionaries and reconstructions. [4] Build a random library of ~18000000 seconds (5000 hours) of video downloaded at random from YouTube. (Note these videos have no overlap with the movies that subjects saw in the magnet). Put each of these clips through the dictionaries to generate predictions of brain activity. Select the 100 clips whose predicted activity is most similar to the observed brain activity. I surprised Sara with a trip to see her friend Karen in Chicago who she has not seen in over 2 years. But, that was not the only part of the surprise.. When I sent her off for her 4 day fun trip I (without her knowing) did a complete bedroom makeover. Our room was the only room upstairs we put off to do anything to. All the kids rooms and living spaces came first, so our was over due to get done. What better way, than as a complete surprise!!!
