MABEL Runs in Style
MABEL running with passive feet in sneakers. The controller used is the same as that developed and implemented for point feet - Nonlinear Compliant Hybrid Zero Dynamics based controller with Active Force Control. Getting MABEL to run with passive feet was very important. Applying what was learnt from this successful experiment was instrumental in getting MABEL to run with point-feet.

Ghost Crying Part Pi - Mabel Gets Shittee
The "crying" sounds like a cat downstairs doing it's usual nightly yowling as cats like to do. Here, we see "Mabel" aka "crying ghost girl" in two places. One it "stands up" and the other it zig zags towards the cameraman. Probably to defy skeptics, albeit Mabel may be TheYouShows' funky creation for the hell of it.
First attempt at walking over rough ground for Bipedal Robot MABEL
In this experiment, we are evaluating the inherent robustness of MABEL's 'almost' nominal gait. [This work is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF)] Question: How far can MABEL step down without falling? To find out, the robot goes until it falls. She was able to handle a 2.5 inch (6.35 cm) drop off. In the end, she did not really fall. Each shin has a built in mechanical fuse that gives way when the load on the leg exceeds a threshold. This is done to avoid damage to the bearings in the hips. The experiment stopped when the fuse in MABEL's shin gave way. The resulting fall is quite spectacular, but does not damage the robot. It takes about an hour to reassemble the leg. Note that the robot does not have a camera. It has no knowledge of the obstacles. If you compare the programmed gait to previous gaits we have used, you will note the increased swing leg height. That is the ONLY change. No reflexes have been programmed in, no additional compliance, nothing extra. Such things will come later.

For the step-down test, MABEL is put in motion, walking around the central tower on an initially flat floor. MABEL then walks up a stair-stepped ramp, takes at least one step on a flat platform, and then steps off the platform. The height of the platform is increased each lap. In her first attempt at walking over rough ground, in April 2010, MABEL appeared to have a terrible "accident," severing her shin in two. Analysis of the experimental data showed how the disturbance at step-down caused the torso to pitch forward. The feedback system overreacted when correcting the torso angle, causing a second, rapid, forward-pitching motion of the torso. Because the angle of the swing leg is controlled relative to the torso, the swing leg rotates forward rapidly as well and impacts the ground with sufficient force to break the leg. In this experiment, a refined control algorithm is being tested. Check out the results.

As well as being one of early film comedy's most notable stars, she was also one of its most innovative and creative pioneers.

MABEL walking with feet
As a Mechanical Engineering Senior Design Project, ME 450, we gave the team of Allison Ryan, Matthew Byrne, Shane Larkin, and Philip Vanderwall the challenge of designing a set of feet for MABEL. They met the challenge brilliantly. They had three months to evaluate various options, arrive at a final design, have parts manufactured, and assemble the feet. After an extremely minimal modification to the nominal walking controller, MABEL walked perfectly on her new feet. You can observe MABEL executing heel-strike and toe-off just as a human does. In fact, you can see a camerman walking next to the robot and ask yourself, who is walking better? The ME 450 team was supervised by Hae-Won Park, a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering.

Unlike most of the channel's "entertainment" that stars King Dedede and Escargoon, this new program stars the local fortune-teller Mabel! She displays six cards on-screen and the viewers at home are instructed to pick one of them. Sir Ebrum chooses the cloud card, and Mabel says that anyone who picked that card should watch for danger from above... Meanwhile, Kirby is furiously trying to scoop out some frozen ice cream from his bowl, when he accidentally tosses the spoon and it lands on Ebrum's head! Some of the Cappies don't believe in this fortune-telling business, though. Tuff, Kirby and their friends don't believe it either, but they think they could get a kick out of making Mabel's predictions come true. Samo overhears the kids talking and is actually interested in their childish pranks - he brings them to his juice bar and asks the little ones to do whatever they can to make the Cappies start believing that Mabel has fortune-telling powers... In exchange for free juice and cake, of course. Tuff and his friends are more than happy to help, but they wonder why Samo wants them to do these things, when normally the adults would forbid it - and he's a bit shy about telling them his reasons.
