This is a shooter based upon the famous anime series and movie Macross. It was released for the MSX computer by Bothec in 1985. The player can transform in 3 modes: Fighter, Gerwalk and Battroid. The transformation of the player sprite are beautifully done (especially for an MSX1 game) but the game itself is rather boring and doesn't capture the spirit of the anime.

This is a video of th 8th mission in the PC game Macross VOXP. If you can't tell by the video my general strategy is to spam mico missiles like there's no tomorrow. Played with this level using the keyboard. It explains the sometimes jerky movements. The game is also compatible with a gamepad but the joystick feels too sensitive and I often oversteer and miss my target completely.

This is the second half of the final mission (TV version). I am using Roy's VF-1S Strike Valkyrie, which is a bit naughty considering that the Strike variant never appeared in the TV series. This is a particularly epic finale, both in the TV series and in the game, and getting to use reaction missiles is pretty cool indeed. Towards the end of the video I try to land on one of Zentraedi battleships, something you can do in other missions, but for some reason the game was having none of it.

Yes, you read that title correctly. This is an extra mission unlocked when you play through the Macross Frontier story mode. The unit has no fixed pilot or upgradable stats, but it does have a maxed out Tension stat. The Tension meter goes up automatically throughout the entire stage. You get 5 minutes to destroy as many Vajra as possible, with the maximum rank at 270 kills. Your basic guns do well, as does the one tension cost Missile Attack, but the melee attack is slow and unwieldy, more of a hindrance than anything else. Near the end, I use the Macross Cannon, which has recoil you must actively control at full charge. I have plans to do a review/Let's Play in the near future, but I want to clear out the remaining campaigns first to know what I'm doing and be able to show all the stages.

This is the intro to only decent game adaption to the classic anime Super Dimensional Fortress Macross. Released only in Japan, it includes both the TV storyline and the Movie version of Macross. The TV series was used in the USA along with 2 other anime series to make Robotech which was also a decent story but the main story differed from the Japanese version. Personally I like the Japanese storyline better.

Part one of a quick single run through the arcade version of Macross 2's Medium difficulty course, scoring 2.92mil with an ALL Clear. This clip was recorded originally as a WolfMAME 0.106 input (hence the badly emulated background music, which has been fixed for the latest version), and is for the first two of four stages. The second part is here: www.youtube.com Macross 2 shares a lot of features with time and attack modes found in other games such as Recca, Dangun Feveron and Pink Sweets, in that you're up against the clock here, trying to reach a score plateau in order to progress. You're unable to extend your time allocation, however, so the only thing you can do is to try and score as much as you can, by collecting surplus powerups (for 3000pts each), various medals, and tagging bonus enemies. Thankfully, there's enough in each stage for you to hit your score target comfortably. If you're pretty quick on the draw, you can clear the boss with plenty of time left. Once you do, you're made invulnerable for the remainder of your stage time allocation, so you can pick up even more points. For the majority of the game, I tend to keep the Gerwalk and Homing powerups, as I find they're the best suited to quickly wiping out formations due to their range. Fighter is good in some situations, such as bosses, where you need power, but for most of the game, it's best to go with range.
