The Japanese Invasion of Malaya

Article: www.myxpitstop.com WWII Short documentary: The Japanese Invasion of Malaya The Japanese Invasion of Malaya began just after midnight on 8 December 1941 before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese plan for the invasion involved landing troops on the east coasts of Thailand and Malaya. The forces in Thailand were to push through to the west coast and invade Malaya from its northern province of Kedah, whilst their eastern forces from Vietnam would attack down the east coast and into the interior of Malaya from Kota Bharu. The Japanese attack force for the invasion of Malaya, Lieutenant General Tomoyuki Yamashita's 25th Army, had sailed from Samah Harbour on Hainan Island on 4 December 1941. Japanese troops launched an amphibious assault on the northern coast of Malaya at Kota Bharu and started advancing down the eastern coast of Malaya. This was made in conjunction with landings at Pattani and Songkhla in Thailand, where they then proceeded south overland across the Thailand-Malayan border to attack the western portion of Malaya. The Japanese had already coerced the Thai government into letting them use Thai military bases to launch attacks into Malaya. "Malaya or Peninsular Malaysia or West Malaysia (Malay: Semenanjung Malaysia) is the part of Malaysia which lies on the Malay Peninsula, and shares a land border with Thailand in the north. To the south is the island of Singapore. Its area is 50810 square miles (131598 square kilometers). It accounts for the ...
British Malaya (Singapore and Malaysia): 1939 Trip around the World (Part 5 of 10)

Part 5 features city scenes of Singapore, including the Old Supreme Court building. In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur city scenes and the Penang Hill tram and Kek Lok Si Buddhist temple in Penang. View all 10 parts: www.youtube.com Evelyn Reinhardt took this footage on her solo round-the-world trip in 1939. A history teacher at Southwest and later, Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Missouri (USA), Ms. Reinhardt complemented her history lessons with stories and films (such as this) from her exotic travels to both Asia and Europe. This particular trip satisfied Ms. Reinhardt's goal of traveling around the world before her 40th birthday. Indeed, she departed San Francisco, California on May 15, 1939 aboard the SS President Taft, and returned to New York, New York, aboard the SS Nieuw Amsterdam on September 4, 1939, twenty three days before she turned 40. Filmed in black and white 16mm film. No audio. Regrettably, the film deteriorated significantly before it was digitized.

Malayan Union

The Malayan Union was a confederation of the Malay states and the Straits Settlements excluding Singapore, which was placed as a crown colony under direct British rule. It was the successor to British Malaya and was conceived to simplify the administration of British colonies in the Malay Peninsula. It was formed on April 1, 1946 by the British. Few of the key details of the Union were: Malayan citizenship that would give equal rights to all would be citizens regardless of race citizenship based on the jus soli principle the transformation of the title Sultan to President. In a way, the Sultans, the traditional rulers of the Malay states, would concede all their powers to the British Crown except in the matters of culture and religion. The Union would be ultimately placed under the rule of a British Governor. The idea of the Union was first expressed by the British on October 1945 in the aftermath of the Second World War by the British Military Administration. Sir Harold MacMichael was assigned the task of gathering the Malay state rulers' approval for the Malayan Union in the same month. In a short period of time, he managed to obtain all the Rulers' signatures through intimidation. On April 1, 1946, the Malayan Union officially came into existence with Sir Edward Gent as its first governor. The capital of the Union was Kuala Lumpur. -From Wikipedia.

Conquest of Malaya and Singapore - Japanese Naval March

1941 December, Japanese troops landed at Kota Baru in Malaya. Within a few hours, all the British airfields were taken and thus began a quick march down the Malayan Peninsula. 2 months later, Singapore fell. Clip shows the landing from the sea and a Japanese unit advancing under heavy fire. A soldier could be seen cutting the barb wire fence before the rest charged into the gap. Also seen are tanks along the Singapore Padang with City Hall at the background and the reception given to General Yamashita by the surrendering British and Indian troops. The music is a Japanese Naval march called the "March of the Warships" (軍艦行進曲)or the "Gunkan March". It was composed in 1897 by naval troop band leader Tokichi Setoguchi, the words were written by Hiraku Toriyama. It was used as the march of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and after WW II re-adopted as the march of the Maritime Self Defense Forces of Japan. The figures for the massecre of the civilian population in Singapore varied from 6000 to 40000. The lower figure was gleaned from the Kempei Tai Japanese military police. The higher figure from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The civilian population in Malaya suffered a similar fate. All those who had experienced Japanese Occupation should be able remember this stirring Naval war song, even though they had bad memories of the event.

We'll Meet Again - Battle of Malaya and Singapore 1941/1942

This is a 1939 song made famous by British singer Vera Lynn with music written by Ross Parker and words by Hughie Charles. The version here is by Peggy Lee with Benny Goodman. Clip features British defences in Malaya, and the secret weapon of the Japanese - the bicycle. In 2 months, Japanese troops cycled and conquered the length of Malaya, ending with the British surrender at Bukit Timah in Singapore. Clip includes the British surrender party with a white flag carried by Major Wild at the surrender.(Major Wild became a War Crime investigator after the war. He was killed in an air crash whilst conducting investigations against Japanese War Criminals. Special thanks to his niece Rose Wild for the info.) Also shown are civilian air raid precaution officers of all races fighting fires ignited by Japanese bombing. A very pretty girl in pink is featured walking pass the street full of soldiers and civil defence volunteers. I wonder what really happened to her? Did she survive the war? Can anyone help identify her?......she's cute!

My first video, shot in Kampala in 2010. The language is Acholi. The meaning of the song is "Pronstitute" and I'm complaining about the fact that in my place if you are not following the rules, immediately they are calling you that way. Soon the entire translation.

Malaya ka na (jade_czeann).wmv

When we were still together, I truly loved you, but what's happening right now, I guezz we are through, it's really hard for me, to get off with you. I really thought we'd make it somehow. But I guess things between us are just not meant to be. but I know this might be good for both me and you. I'm not right for you, and you're not the one for me. I love you but i have to set you free, I'm not right for you, and you're not the one for me. I love you but i have to set you free, It's really hard for me to live without you, but pwamiz I would try to move on. Though it hurts, I have to say "GOODBYE" The thought of letting you go breaks my heart. 'Coz in my life, you play an important part. It's so hard for me to give up on you. For giving up on love is something I don't do. But I have to face reality, everything has changed. It's all over, things are not the same. I'm free to move on and go where I want to be. It's really time for me to let you go. So here I am, ready to let you know, That I'm so thankful to have you even for a while. I'm stronger now, I'm not going to cry. Since we separated our ways , I realized that I was strong Those days of you and me are all over. In my heart you'll be kept in a special place. The memory of you will never be erased. It hurts me so much but I have to let you go. It hurts me so much but I have to let you go. that someday...soon... You gonna MIZZ ME!...
