Just Dance sits down with 3-time Emmy winning choreographer Marguerite Derricks who tells us about her Astaire Award nominated choreography in Broadway's WONDERLAND! Wonderland, the new musical that reinvents "Alice in Wonderland" for the 21st century, opens on Broadway April 17 following previews from March 21 at the Marquis Theatre. Janet Dacal, of In the Heights, plays a modern-day Manhattan mom named Alice, who sings a score by Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy. MEET DANIELLE Danielle Peig, originally, from Dance Connection in Scottsdale, Az also attended The Dance Source where Brian Friedman taught and Choreographed her solos starting at the age of 12. She grew up training with Choreographers in the Industry such as Ray Leeper, Marguerite Derricks, Dee Caspary, Mark Miesmer, Jackie Sleight, and many more, in the studio and on the convention scene. Danielle has had opportunities assisting Choreographers Brian Friedman, Sonya Tayeh, Joey Dowling, George Ortiz, Donyelle Jones and more. Danielle is a recent graduate from California Institute of the Arts and currently holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography. While in college she trained with Modern company members of Horton, Limon, and Graham as well as learning European Laban's fall and recovery technique along with contact improvisation. She gained new recognition for her Choreography while in school and had opportunities for her work being performed in the Disney Lund Theater, the opening of the Red Cat Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, and at The Place in London, home of the European Contemporary Place Prize Competition. Karla Garcia was part of the top 7 female dancers in Season Five of Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance." From learning traditional Philippine folk dances, she went on to dance for the National Tour of "Wicked", the Broadway show "Hot Feet", and the VH1 Divas Live show behind Jordin Sparks. She has a BFA in dance and a minor in Journalism from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She is also a member of the Boogie Bots Crew (from MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, Season 2). She has been featured in works by Mia Michaels, Dwight Rhoden, Stacey Tookey, Kyle Abraham, Bridgette Moore, Ray Leeper, Marguerite Derricks, and Nappytabs. MEET LAUREN The talent, charm, beauty and humor which Lauren Gottlieb not only exudes in her everyday life, but also carries to the stage in each of her dances is quickly establishing her as a rising star and one of the most sought-after dancers in Hollywood. After winning over America on the hit FOX reality series So You Think You Can Dance, Lauren made it to the final six contestants and hardly put on the brakes at that point. Soon every major choreographer wanted to work with her. She performed with Shakira at the Grammys. She performed with Mariah Carey on Good Morning America. She also returned to FOX for American Idols Idol Gives Back special with her fellow So You Think You Can Dance castmates. MEET REY Rey Barcena was born and grew up in Los Angeles, Ca. By the time Rey was 13 he began training under the direction of Melody Lacayanga, Nick Lazzarini and Leo Morimune. Most recently in the last few years Rey has also been privileged to work with Sonya Tayeh on numerous projects, is part of her Tayeh Dance CO. and will be a principal dancer in Sonyas third annual show in November The Endurance to Move. Rey has performed all over the nation dancing and in 2004 performed in the Zurich, Switzerland World Salsa Congress. Rey recently worked with Paula Abdul & Benji Scwimmer on the setting of Foxs American Idols Season 8 top 6 group performance Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) and performed as a special guest performance with the Rage Boyz Crew on the finale of Foxs Season 5 So You Think You Can Dance at the Kodak Theatre. In 2006 Rey and his partner Alex Liu were season 1 finalist on the CBS television show Dance Revolution in which Rey was a co-choreographer in setting the pieces. Reys most recent highlight of his dance career was he just finished shooting the feature film Fame choreographed by Emmy Award Winner Marguerite Derricks and directed by Kevin Tancheron.
