This is a spec project made to illustrate the impact of unique and emotional stories told by ordinary people. We explore the life of a collector, artist and retired teacher and his history with a 40-year old Dodge Charger. Such content allows us to express the human side of an iconic brand. Robert Altman's very smart private eye flick starring Elliot Gould as Phillip Marlowe, based on the novel by Raymond Chandler, released in 1973. This is far removed from Humphrey Bogart's Marlowe in "The Big Sleep". Everyone underestimates Gould as Marlowe in this film, and he is played as a throwback. There are constant references to 30's and 40's Hollywood that informs his character. Written by Leigh Brackett, the woman who wrote "The Big Sleep", the script deviates considerably from the novel. It's another great film no one discusses anymore, though it was not a successful film on release. Only the New York Times praised it, putting it on their top ten list of '73. See it. A mystery that remains cloudy until the very last scene when Marlowe shows what he's really capable of.

Just a few words on my newest Benchmade. Although the forumites seem to be against this beautiful Bali in full force, I really really like it. It's a fun knife that brings me back to my younger days. It has a few draw backs or issues depending on what you are looking fir in a Bali Song type knife but as far as a user Bali goes I think that it was very well executed; so much so that it has renewed my love of this type of knife.

December 5th, 2007 - At home in Sunny View, North Carolina, just before going to court on charges stemming from a small Medical Cannabis grow, Steve Marlowe tells the details of his arrest, possible reasons for the police acting on a bogus warrant, and calls for common sense in enforcing laws that might impact medical marijuana patients, their caregivers and other innocents. Perhaps the supposed large amounts of csah supposedly to be found was what enticed law enforcement to infringe on citizen's rights that night. Property seizure abuse fascilitated by the drug war is rampant in communities all across America and the 4th Amendment to the Constitution is not the only victim of "drug war exemptions to the Bill of Rights"!

The Long Goodbye (1973) Part 2
Raymond Chandler's cynically idealistic hero, Philip Marlowe, has been played by everyone from Humphrey Bogart to James Garner--but no one gives him the kind of weirdly affect-less spin that Elliott Gould does in this terrific Robert Altman reimagining of Chandler's penultimate novel. Altman recasts Marlowe as an early '70s LA habitué, who gets involved in a couple of cases at once. The most interesting involves a suicidal writer (Sterling Hayden in a larger-than-life performance) whom Marlowe is supposed to keep away from malevolent New-Ageish guru Henry Gibson. A variety of wonderfully odd characters pop up, played by everyone from model Nina Van Pallandt to director Mark Rydell to ex-baseballer Jim Bouton. And yes, that is Arnold Schwarzenegger (in only his second movie) popping up as (what else?) a muscleman. Listen for the title song: It shows up in the strangest places.
