The stock tones that come with it are absolutely useless, but the HD 500 itself is a massive improvement as far as I am concerned. If you buy one of these be prepared to start all over if you own one of the previous boxes because no patches from the earlier Line 6 boxes (XT, X3, X3 Live) is compatible with the HD 500. That means you have to recreate all your tones and patches from scratch all over again.

This is my entry to a competition called Tales Of Yore (TOY). The theme was to make something rooted/set/linked to historical events. It won first place, getting me a £240 stop motion program. Mine's based on how pirates would maroon one another. The pirate was taken to a tiny desert island, where he was given a pistol with one shot and normally a bottle of water which would last him a day. Then he'd either starve slowly to death, or he could put himself out of his misery with the pistol, but by doing that he would damn his soul. It's always nice to see a music video that really pushes the limits. A video that not only accompanies the song, but brings it to a higher cinematic and musical level. What Dream Cop and director Benjamin Brewer did here for "Marooned" is exactly what I am talking about. Employing incredible cinematography, brilliant costumes and an intriguing storyline, I could only wish that more independent bands ditched their cheesy nostalgic VHS feel for something like this. "Marooned" comes off the Mango EP, which is available now.

Dream Cop Marooned

The idea for this movie came about when I was not involved in the three-dimensional graphics. While I was trying to simulate a few scenes "under water". Of course I did not succeed because of lack of experience as such. There have been several attempts to "clean slate" with some regularity. Some time later, while working in an architectural office, I decided to try yet again, and once managed to make the first scene (Depot), I tried to animate the movement of the camera and do the same with the rest of the material that I was ready. Creating a movie was for me a supertask, but here is possibilities to achieve good picture were even so limited. As a result of insufficient capacity of some scenes had to be abandoned. Also had to simplify the scene themselves and the ocean surface. The entire rendering was performed on a home and several office workstations. In this project, I first tried After Effects and Premier, as well as sculpting in Mudbox. The result had this training video, as a sort of compilation of the various tools and techniques, under the soaring over the ocean solo by David Gilmour.

Now the real surprise of the Trance Appeal album, the single bonus track entitled 'Marooned'. At just over thirteen minutes this really is the killer punch for the album, it is simply superb!!! Recorded around the year 2000 with Jorg Schaaf again sharing the duties the four minute introduction is completely bizarre, but absolutely brilliant; remaining completely focused, it's impossible to describe really - just total synth madness!!! Those huge epic Vangelisy strings are back in action playing a subdued and mournful theme, a little like an over the top version of something Jan Hammer may have cobbled together for the Miami Vice TV show back in the eighties. It's sublimely grandiose and l love it as synths swoop and twitter overhead. Ok, this is me trying out Marooned. I'm using Fender Standard Stratocaster (Mexico) with EMG DG-20 PU's, Demeter Compulator, Whammy 4, Chandler Tube Driver, CE-5, GE-7 (bass) and DD-20 plugged into M-Audio Black Box, which emulates the HiWatt DR103. Guitar is a little too loud, a little too much bass and a little too much treble - also a couple of mistakes. I debated rather or not to upload this, as the 2nd half of this performance is missing, but figured why not. There are other videos on YouTube of Massive Attack's Glastonbury performance,but I believe this is the first one of Marooned. This was recorded from the BBC live feed, were it was pre-empted to go to the Jay-Z performance on the Main Stage at Glastonbury, which was on at the same time as Massive Attack, so only the first half was ever broadcast.
