Martha (M'appari) Connee Boswell
This Snayder Telescript was shot in Connee Boswell's Manhattan Apartment. She made a series of these shorts (the midpoint between "soundies" and MTV) with her dog Rebel. She reprised her 1937 hit "Martha" for this production. Connee Boswell was the first to "swing the classics" and paved the way for everyone from Bea Wain and Larry Clinton to Bobby Darrin. Just another one of the trends that began with a Boswell, but has somehow gotten lost with the passage of time.

Smashing Pumpkins: For Martha video
I made this video for the Pumpkins song "For Martha" using clips from a few Ingmar Bergman movies (Persona, Through a Glass Darkly, The Seventh Seal and The Silence). I don't take credit for anything except the editing (the song had to be made a little shorter too). I was trying to go for a theme of reflecting on a difficult relationship between a mother and son (Billy Corgan apparently wrote this song about his mother), possibly impacted by alienation and mental illness. It's a beautiful song, so hopefully the video does it justice.
