HOME Making-Of : Mauritania

For trade, humans overcame numerous obstacles--seas, deserts and mountains. First with rudimentary and then increasingly evolved means. By taming animals such as donkeys, horses and camels, humans were able to travel vast distances. When muscle power was no longer enough, oil and other types of fossil energy sources took over to fuel trains, trucks, cargo ships and airplanes that carry merchandise in ever larger quantities from one side of the globe to the other. www.home-2009.com

Women on the Frontline - Mauritania

Women on the Frontline is a video documentary series, presented by Annie Lennox, that shines a light on violence against women and girls. The series takes the front to homes, villages and cities around the world where a largely unreported war against females is being waged. Broadcast on BBC World for seven weeks in 2008, the series covers: Nepal, where thousands of women are trafficked each year; Turkey, where killing in the name of honour continues; Morocco, where women political activists who have survived torture and imprisonment testify before a government truth and reconciliation commission; the DRC, where women bear the brunt of a 10-year war in the eastern provinces; Colombia, where women have been tortured in the shadow of a guerilla war; Mauritania, where women who have been raped may go to prison; and Austria, where, under a new law, perpetrators of domestic violence are forced to leave home. (Publishers: UNFPA, dev.tv, Austrian Development Cooperation, UNIFEM; Year of Release: 2008)

Food Insecurity in Mauritania and the Sahel: Interview with Nathalie Bonvin

Without action now, over one million Mauritanians will face a severe food crisis in the coming months, warns the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The combined effects of poor harvests and lower pastures resulting from erratic rainfall, drought, as well as rising food prices have severely reduced the availability of food for tens of thousands of Mauritanians, in particular the poorest households. The Inter-Agency Standing Committee's 2012 strategic paper shows that the number of people facing food shortages has increased from 428000 to 838000 between July and November and that this number could reach 1.2 million people by January 2012, if urgent action is not taken. The IFRC appeal aims to support the Mauritanian Red Crescent in assisting 10000 households. Funds raised will be used to distribute fodder for livestock, seeds and tools for agro-pastoralists, relief food for vulnerable households, and reinforce existing nutrition centres with mobile units. Community-based disaster risk reduction activities will also be implemented to allow people to be less dependent on rainwater for their food security.

Mauritania Signs Fishing Deal with China

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com In Africa, the country of Mauritania granted a quarter-century fishing liscense to a Chinese fishing firm. While Mauritanian officials say it will benefit the country, many disagree. Mauritania's government has recently signed a 25-year deal with Chinese fishing company Poly Hon Done Pelagic Fishery. The agreement will let Chinese trawlers fish in Mauritanian waters, but local fishermen, green activists and opposition lawyers all say all it will do the poor African country is cause more harm than help. Local fishermen see the new deal as not only unfair, but also dangerous. [Cheikhany Ould Amar, VP, National Federation of Fisheries]: "The presence of this Chinese fleet is a threat for the Mauritanian fleet. First because of the pressure on the resources, second because of unfair competition and third because of the benefits this company is giving them and which make them dominate the fishing industry." In exchange for access to Mauritanian waters, the Chinese regime will provide a 100 million US dollar investment, which will be used to build a processing factory, a training center for Mauritanians and a traditional boat manufacturing site. Mauritanians, however, fear their own inferior traditional ships will be in no condition to compete with Chinese trawlers for already scarce fish supplies. When fishing makes up around 10 percent of Mauritania's gross domestic ...

Slavery in Mauritania, Africa

Show on mixed-raced peoples known are Berbers/Moors and Arab invaders to Mauritania enslaving and totally ravaging this West African nation. Most people are not familiar with this issue and they have only heard about Sudan. This certainly was not a topic back when this show came out around 1994. This show also show that black people in Africa also inhabit the Sahara (yeah, some will call it the Sahel) contrary to brainwashing. This is a serious issue and people could probably help them by giving them arms and the means to destroy their enemies! Islam does not seem to matter in these cases proving once again that religion is used to destroy and control...

Mauritania - Nouakchott - Travel - Jim Rogers World Adventure

Leading economic expert Jim Rogers traveled to 150 countries over 150000 miles in three years - follow his adventures here on FentonReport. In this video Jim and Paige visit Nouakchott in Mauritania. Copyright Jim Rogers - provided as a special contribution to The Fenton Report. www.fentonreport.com Nouakchott is the capital and by far the largest city of Mauritania. It is one of the largest cities in the Sahara. The city is the administrative and economic centre of Mauritania. Located on the Atlantic coast of the Sahara, it lies on the west coast, on the Atlantic Ocean, although with the exception of Nouakchott Wharf and a deep water port, the coastal strip is mostly left empty and allowed to flood. Due to the rapid build-up, the city is quite spread out, with few tall buildings. It also often acts as an interface between urban Mauritanians and their nomadic fellow citizens. Nouakchott is built around a large tree-lined street, Avenue Abdel Nasir, which runs northeast through the city center from the airport. Other major streets are named (in French) for notable Mauritanian figures, or international personages of the 1960s Avenue de Gaulle, Avenue Kennedy, and Avenue Lumumba, for example. Nouakchott is a vital city to Mauritania because of imports and exports, particularly of certain minerals and crops. Nouakchott also has 8 oil blocks off the coast to use. www.mutualfundcenter.com http www.atlanticfinancial.com www.atlanticfinancial.com www.atlanticfinancial.com
