Encores! kicks off its 19th season with Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's Merrily We Roll Along, which examines the lives of three artists whose friendship is tested by time, events, ambition and fate. Directed by Sondheim's "old friend" James Lapine, the production at New York City Center stars Colin Donnell as Franklin Shepard, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Charley Kringas and Celia Keenan-Bolger as Mary Flynn, plus Elizabeth Stanley as Gussie Carnegie, Betsy Wolfe as Beth Shepard and Adam Grupper as Joe Josephson. One of my favorite songs ever, from perhaps the most under-rated Broadway show in history. This is part of the opening number from the 1980 Sondheim/Furth musical flop 'Merrily We Roll Along'. It comes after "The Hills of Tomorrow" (cut from revised subsequent productions) and "Rich and Happy." The orchestrations are fantastic. Kim Possible - Merrily We Roll Along Overture
This was my second video project, and I estimate that it was ten times more work than the first. I didn't go in with a definite plan, but I think the end product works. This music is the overture for "Merrily We Roll Along," one of Stephen Sondheim's lesser known musicals. The upbeat, jazzy flavor of the piece is something that seemed to fit with "Kim Possible," so I decided to put them together. The overture is divided into four sections, so the video is divided into these chapters: 1. Saving the World 2. Love (I had to tweak the story a bit to make this section more interesting) 3. School 4. Family and Friends I hope you will enjoy this. "Kim Possible" is owned by Disney and "Merrily We Roll Along" is owned by George Furth and Stephen Sondheim. Ding! Dong! Merrily On High (2009)
Three sold out performances by students and staff members drew hundreds of people to the Baptist Bible College & Seminary campus on December 11 and 12. A Christmas season tradition, the concerts included performances by the BBC One Accord, BBC Chamber Singers, and BBC Concert Chorale, as well as faculty and student soloists, brass, and vocal ensembles. The venue was the Murphy Memorial Library. Music performed included masterworks by Felix Mendelssohn and Hans Leo Hassler. Award-winning choral works by Ola Gjeilo, Stephen Main, and Jan Sandstrom were also featured. A dessert reception held an hour prior to each performance offered a special time for fellowship.
