Deena Metzger talks about Anais Nin for Anais Nin @ 105 at the Hammer Museum. Organized by Steven Reigns Metzger met Anaïs Nin in 1966 when she was the Literary and Arts editor of the LA Free Press and first became familiar with her work by reviewing Collages. They became close friends, sharing dreams, writing and their lives until Anaïs' death. When the first Diary was published, Deena reviewed it and they celebrated with a costume publication party at Deena's home: Come as one of Anaïs' Characters. In turn Anaïs endorsed Deena's first book Skin:Shadows/Silence: A Love Letter in the Form of a Novel. Since then the poet, novelist, playwright, essayist, healer has written many works including Entering the Ghost River: Meditations on the Theory and Practice of Healing; From Grief into Vision: A Council; Tree: Essays and Pieces; and Writing For Your Life: A Guide and Companion to the Inner Worlds. She co-edited Intimate Nature: The Bond Between Women and Animals. Her novels include The Woman Who Slept with Men to Take the War Out of Them, The Other Hand, What Dinah Thought and Doors: A Fiction for Jazz Horn. Her most recent books of poetry are Looking for the Faces of God and A Sabbath Among The Ruins. Ruin and Beauty: New and Selected Poems is forthcoming in 2008. Gustav Metzger's career has spanned sixty years of art and political activism. He pioneered Auto-Destructive art and famously held an 'art strike' between 1977-1980. He was also involved in the radical Fluxus movement. In 1962 his simple idea of displaying all the pages from a popular national newspaper as an art installation was rejected from an exhibition for being too politically charged. This year Tate Modern invited him to restage the piece, and he told us why newspapers should be held up for scrutiny.

He has had an extensive career working on music for movies, Broadway, and television for over twenty years. Perhaps best known for his orchestrations, he has worked on 27 movies to date, including films as wide ranging as Bolt, Hancock, Kung Fu Panda, August Rush, The Simpsons Movie, Training Day, Tarzan, Armageddon, and Night at the Museum 2. Dave also orchestrated the Disney Broadway production of The Lion King, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Orchestration. His television credits include a five-year stint as a composer/arranger for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in the early 1990's. Upon graduation from Corvallis High School, Dave moved to the Los Angeles area to pursue his interest in film music, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in music at California State University, Long Beach. Nazi Chief, Tom Metzger addresses a meeting of the New Black Panther Party in Dallas in the 1990's. As Metzger points out Black Nationalists have a history of cooperation with the Nazi Party and the KKK. Obama's church in Chicago is also a Black Nationalist sect with genocidal racist beliefs similar to those of the Nation of Islam. The New Black Panthers are an off-shoot of the Nation of Islam as is Black Liberation Theology, the doctrine of Obama's pseudo-church in Chicago, Trinity United Church of Christ.
