Michael Vlahos, Professor of Strategy at the United States Naval War College, believes the United States' wars in the Middle East were "the wrong kind of choices for what we wanted in the long term to achieve in the Muslim world." "We were doing things that... may have felt good, may have addressed a tremendous sense of emotional angst that we felt, but in the long run we're achieving in many ways the opposite of what we wanted", he explained. Bill Van Auken, an activist for the US Socialist Equality Party, believes the 9/11 attacks were the pretext, not the root cause, of America's foreign invasions. "I think if you look into what took place in the aftermath of 9/11, they don't flow from the events, they flow from the policies that had been in the works for at least the previous decade." Van Auken said the US government believed that "a unipolar moment had arisen, that the United States could carry out its will by military force anywhere in the world, and it could use military force to reverse... an economic decline in its position on the world stage." Ivan Eland, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on Peace & Liberty at The Independent Institute, says few Americans now believe that "the war in Afghanistan or the war in Iraq... had a positive effect on fighting terrorism." He says the US should have focused on Al Qaeda and excluded Saddam Hussein and all these manufactured associations between Iraq and Bin Laden which were totally false."

He was born under the family name of Pătraşcu. During his reign, which coincided with the Long War, these three principalities forming the territory of present-day Romania and Moldova were united for the first time under a single Romanian ruler, though the unification lasted for less than six months. He is regarded as one of Romania's greatest national heroes. His reign began in late 1593, two years before the war with the Ottomans started, a conflict in which the Prince fought the Battle of Călugăreni, considered one of the most important battles of his reign. Although the Wallachians emerged victorious from the battle, Michael was forced to retreat with his troops and wait for aid from his allies (prince Sigismund Báthory of Transylvania, Emperor Rudolf II of Austria). The war continued until a peace finally emerged in January 1597, but this only lasted for a year and a half. The Siege of Odessa was part of the Soviet-German War in 1941. The siege was primarily conducted by Romanian forces. It took the Romanian army 73 days of siege and four attempts to take the city, during which they suffered 93000 casualties.On 14 October 1941, most of the remaining forces of the Red Army were evacuated.It was the only major Soviet city which was captured by a German ally without significant German assistance. Emma ThompsonHonored with 2416th Star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame for her Motion Picture Career Emcee Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, President/CEO Leron Gubler Guest speakers: Hugh Laurie and Maggie Gyllenhaal At 6714 Hollywood Boulevard in front of The Pig 'n Whistle British Pub Friday, August 6, 2010 Emma Thompson who is one of the world's most respected talents for her versatility in acting as well as screenwriting was honored with the 2416th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 6, in front of the British Pub, Pig' n Whistle. Guest speakers were Hugh Laurie and Maggie Gyllenhaal as well as Councilman Tom LaBonge. Cast members from the film, "Nanny McPhee Returns," Eros Vlahos, Rosie Taylor Witson and Lil Woods were also on hand for the festivities. Ms. Thompson was thrilled that the star was in front of a British pub and that it was smack in the middle of the entrance where you step on her star before you order your drink and step on the star when you finish your drink! She dedicated the star to her late theater director father, Eric Thompson who brought Emma to Hollywood when she was 14 to see the stars on the Walk of Fame and reminisced how she thought the stars were a lovely thing to do for celebrities. On August 20, her current global hit, Universal Pictures' Nanny McPhee Returns, comes to the US and Canada.
