Russian embassy officials in London have finally been allowed to contact a young Russian woman, arrested almost a week ago on suspicion of spying. 25-year-old Katia Zatuliveter now faces deportation. She worked as an assistant to British MP Mike Hancock, and the UK says she was gathering information on nuclear facilities. London had refused to provide Moscow with any information about the arrest, and had initially blocked access to the woman. Russia says it's not yet received any official information from Britain about the suspected spy facing deportation from the UK. Katya Zatuliveter was arrested on Thursday and is now preparing an appeal. The twenty-five-year-old was working as a parliamentary aide to British MP Mike Hancock, who insists she's innocent. While no evidence against her has been made public, the story has captured the imagination of the media, with Zatuliveter already dubbed another Anna Chapman. Governor Steve Beshear has broken ground for the final construction phase for a new bridge over the Tennessee River in western Kentucky. He calls the new bridge critically important to the economy of the region.The new bridge will carry US 60 over the Tennessee River between Livingston and McCracken counties. It will feature four traffic lanes and a five-foot-wide shoulder. The new bridge is being built a quarter-mile upstream from the two-lane Ledbetter Bridge, which it replaces. The Ledbetter Bridge opened in 1931. The main piers for the new bridge have already been constructed. The superstructure and additional piers will be constructed under a separate contract. That will bring the total construction cost for the entire bridge project to about $95 million. Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock says the Transportation Cabinet has a number of bridges in development and a new US 60 Tennessee River Bridge is one of the most significant. He says it will help connect two of the main routes through the region, US 60 and US 62.

Russia's Katia Zatuliveter will not be deported from the UK. A special commission has ruled that the 26-year-old, accused of obtaining classified information while working for a British MP with whom she had an affair, was not a Russian agent. After the court ruled that Zatuliveter may stay due to a lack of evidence of her being a spy, her lawyer stated that the whole situation showed incompetence on behalf of the security services. Sunday March 7 2010 WILD monkeys are being illegally trapped and plundered from the forests of south‑east Asia for use in British research laboratory experiments, fear animal welfare campaigners. Campaigners and MPs are calling on the Home Office to examine allegations that wild-caught macaques are being sourced from the jungles of Laos and Cambodia in breach of international conservation regulations. Undercover investigators from the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) found appalling conditions at one primate centre in Laos where the factory farming of macaques takes place on an industrial scale. They said monkeys were kept in rows of small chain-linked pens whose floors were made of either concrete or suspended wire. And infants were taken from their mothers aged six months, they said, causing extreme distress to both. Non-human primates can only be imported into the UK for toxicology and medical research tests from companies approved by British inspectors. The regulations are aimed at ensuring adequate conditions and preventing ruthless businessmen cashing in on the booming trade by trapping monkeys in the wild. However, the BUAV fears those rules are being broken. It is concerned that UK-approved centres in China and Vietnam are sourcing their primates from unapproved farms in Laos where there is no requirement to give long-tailed macaques permanent markers such as tattoos or chips.
