The Successor - Yao Ming and Hakeem Olajuwon
Hakeem Olajuwon is my favorite athlete of all-time. Let's get that straight right off the bat. I did not make this video, nearly 5 years ago now, to claim that Yao was better than, as good, or even on his way to being as good as Hakeem. I simply wanted to highlight similarities in their games, given that they had so many other similarities (#1 pick in the draft, foreign born, playing center for the Rockets, etc.). The word "successor" does not, in any way, claim superiority. It simply refers to something or someone who came after another. Hakeem was the Rockets franchise center before, and Yao was shortly after. Again, this video was made nearly 5 years ago. At that point, Yao had played in 244 of 246 possible games in his first 3 seasons, and had ONE injury from which he bounced back convincingly in '05-'06. He was steadily improving, and had already proven to be a 22 point, 10 rebound, 2 block per game player. The fact that he has fallen from grace so swiftly in recent years does not falsify any claims that this video initially made. Because it made NONE. Thanks for watching.

The now 31-year-old Yao Ming was greeted with applause by his fellow classmates on his official first day of school at Shanghai Jiaotong University. Yao Ming's enrolled in the Antai College of Economics and Management, where he plans on studying journalism and finance. His first day included mathematics, English, and modern Chinese history. Yao sat in the back of the classrooms in tailor-made chairs to match his size, but the rest of the classroom, like the whiteboard, remains normal size. Yao says he enjoys the campus environment, but doubts whether his schedule will allow him to continue his studies as a "normal" college student.
