A world-first flux pinning demonstrator with a levitating train rotating about its own axis in three dimensions. As part of the MOSEM² project a group of students at Vestfold University College, Norway, has developed and produced a unique Moebius-shaped track for a superconducting levitating train. This is an extension of the MOSEM "High-Tech Kit" which contains a straight track for demonstration of two types of levitation; with the Meissner effect and with flux pinning. The Möbius track employs the flux pinning phenomenon to keep the train "on track" while it zips around the track. The geometry of a Möbius band allows the train to keep going in circles while also turning around its own axis. This proves that levitation with flux pinning is highly stable and different from magnetic levitation by simple magnetic repulsion using electromagnets (used by commercial full-size levitating trains) or permanent magnets (used by some model trains) that can only work on a horizontal track. I can't find reference to these new results anywhere. Are my findings new? A mobius strip has only one boundary. I think that I may have discovered that a multi-flip mobius strip can be flattened with strip intersections. The number of lines ( a line is only a plain intersection) needed to flatten a mobius strip is double the number of original twists in the strip. Plus I found that the solution has boundaries in another dimension that is always one less than the number of resulting twists when cut down the middle. The results are consistent up to 7 twists but the solution times increase significantly, it might be an NP complete problem? It is very interesting so far! I'm working on the mathamatics of it currently, this is much slower.

I've cut a 3 flip mobius counter clockwise strip down the middle using special mobius paper that I created. I then added half cuts to the plain so they can intersect for the purpose of getting rid of all twists. As you know, the resulting loop has 8 twists, a trefoil knot and two boundaries (surfaces), but it takes 6 lines to kill the 8 twists. The resulting paper soultion is then put on a page and turned into a knot diagram and knot notation. The knot diagram is then turned into a pseudograph consisting of vertices, lines (I meant to make them straight but I do this in my head) and loops. The findings are very very interesting! All the solutions have a knot crossing number of six (except for one so far - it had 8?), all pseudographs have a network Betti number of 7 and almost all the pseudographs have a Euler characteristic of 0. The original uncut mobius strip has a Euler number of 0! WOW. I think all of these findings are reproduceable and original because I cannot find any related papers so far. Can anyone help?

Moebius, a German mathematician from the beginning of the 18th century, who developed the magically twisted circle ring on which this knitting technique is based. Use a long circular needle - at least 32 inch. Cast on around double needle points. Number of sts cast on divided by gauge will give finished diameter. Pull out one needle and move sts to needle with no working yarn. With other side of needle pick up sts in each long loop under each stitch all around. (Since not picking up in the first st you will end up with an odd total number of sts). The needles should now be on the outside of the cable and the cable is twisted one time on the middle. Join and start knitting in the round. First time you get to the starting tail you have worked all sts cast on on needle and now you will make first round on the sts picked up and first time you work these you knit in the back loop. Following rounds will be worked in front loop as normally. If you keep knitting in the round ahlf your work will be in stockinette and half in reversed stockinette. Since you have an odd number of sts you could K1,P1 all around and your moebius will be all in seed sts.
