Lolita - Roter Mohn (Red Poppies) 1961
From the second LP that was released in the US, by Lolita, called "Songs You Will Never Forget - Sung In German". The first album was the classic "Sailor, Sailor And Lolita's Greatest Hits" (both were released on Kapp Records). This LP was released to keep the momentum going and contains some really nice songs: I'll be uploading four tracks from the album. The liner notes are entirely in English, and here is what is says about "Roter Mohn": "A stage revue in 1938 first featured "Red Poppies" sung by Rosita Serrano, an exotic Latin American soprano known as "The Chilean Nightingale" and the darling of European night clubs". Written by Jary/Balz, it does not give credit on the LP as to who the producer or musical director is. The liner notes

Roter Mohn - ( Red Moon ), Rosita Serrano from the movie " Schwarzfahrt ins Glück ", Berlin 1940. One of Rosita Serrano's most beloved songs. Rosita Serrano- "The Chilenian Nightingale", was from Chile. Came to Germany around 1936, and became one of the most beloved singers and movie stars in Europe from the late 1930'ies and during 1940'ies. In 1941 she setteled in neutral Sweden, and performed just from one engagenent to one engagement in Germany until 1945. Later she returned to Chile. A summer night in 1939, just a few weeks before the outbreak of WW2, the air over all Europe was extreme clear. That caused one of the most beautiful blood colored red sunsets ever. Everything all over Europe stopped up for a while. During many years I sometimes have asked old people all over Europe about that 1939 summer night, and everybody remembers it clearly. Also in North Scandinavia that blood red sunset was noticed, and the old generation here tells about one of the most fantastic northern lights ever, dancing over the heaven. On this video I have tried to reconstruct the impressions and memories from the old generation, please enjoy. Might this event in 1939 have been inspiration of this wonderful tango?
