Saving Mongolia's last wild horses

Mongolia is home to the last species of truly wild horses on the planet. The "Takhi" horse dates from the times of Genghis Khan, but has been hunted to the brink of extinction. Conservationists are now trying to protect the species by breeding them in zoos around the world. Melissa Chan tracks down these elusive horses in Hustai, Mongolia.

Mineral-rich Mongolia sells fields

With about 6.5 billion tonnes of untapped reserves, Mongolia's soils contain almost 70% of all known types of minerals. Its soils contain copper, gold, iron ore, coal, zinc, nickel, silver and tin. Oyu Tolgoi in the Gobi desert has the world's largest undeveloped copper and gold deposit. It aims to produce 450 000 tonnes of copper and 300 000 ounces of gold each year. Now a huge section of the field has been sold to international mining companies, for a $7bn up-front investment. Al Jazeera's Melissa Chan reports from south Gobi, Mongolia.

Desert Overtaking Inner Mongolia

Desert Overtaking Inner Mongolia: Precipitation pattern changes in an already parched region have led to severe shortages of fresh water, playing an integral role in the spread of desertification in China's Inner Mongolia. Mongolia - Mobile Kindergarten | Global 3000

Many Mongolian nomad children have never seen a kindergarten. Depending on the season, their parents travel long distances to and from remote grazing land. The children seldom have contact with other kids their own age. Now mobile kindergartens are trying to make a difference. We accompany the teacher and former dancer Boldbataar. He and his team travel with a large tent to the nomadic families to teach their children math, music, traditional dancing and reading.

Buddhist temples vie to recruit Mongolians

Until the advent of communist rule, Mongolia was heavily influenced by Buddhism, with one in every three men serving as monks. Official atheism encouraged the destruction of monasteries and violent purges of religious orders. The end of communism brought an end to that repression and many Buddhist temples actively compete to attract followers. Al Jazeera's Melissa Chan reports from Ulan Bator.

"UFO" New Spiral of Maitreya in Mongolia 2011

One new spiral in Mangolia June 2011. The Spiral is a symbol of the perdition of Satan, aka Maitreya (Raj Patel is one of the numerous bodies under his control) 2 possible meanings depending on which side you are (a victim of Satan or a devil/demon/shaytan): For the victims of Satan, the spiral symbolizes the spiritual Ascension (which is actually a spiritual descension), the Awakening (which is actually deepening of your perdition), the opening of the 3rd eye (which is actually possession by the Jinns/devils/shaytans). From the point of view of the devils who are plotting against Humanity, it's rather the spiral of perdition, the vortex which will lead you very deep in darkness and which will open to you the Eternal Flames of Hell, it symbolizes the trap of Satan, if you go too far in the Satanic vortex, there is no way of return. 11:11

Mongolians Protest Chinese Miner's Brutal Killing of a Mongolian Herder & China's Mining Policies

On the morning of May 23, 2011, hundreds of Mongolian herders from Right Ujumchin Banner of Southern (Inner) Mongolia took to the streets in the Banner capital (equivalent to the county level of government) to protest against the Chinese miners' brutal killing of a Mongolian herder and the destruction of Mongolian herders' grazing land. Hundreds more herders from three sums (a sum is an administrative unit one level below banner) of Right Ujumchin Banner were blocked by armed police on their way marching toward the Banner capital. www.smhric.org www.bbc.co.uk edition.cnn.com According to an email communication from the local Mongolian community, three herders and one student were severely beaten in front of the Banner Government building and taken away by the police. Whereabouts and current condition of the four are still unknown. Mongols who captured the protest and police brutality on their cell phones or cameras had their devices confiscated. With China's announcement that the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR) has become the "energy base of China," Chinese mining companies and private miners poured into the Southern Mongolian grasslands to open up hundreds of coal mines, forcibly displacing the local herders, destroying their grazing land, and killing their livestock. Frustrated herders organized to block the Chinese mining trucks from passing through their grazing land. On May 10, 2011, Mr. Mergen, one of the organizers of the Mongolian herders of Right Ujumchin ...

Unrest in Inner Mongolia After Herder's Death

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com Unrest has broken out in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. That comes after an ethnic Mongolian herder was run over by a Chinese coal truck earlier this month. Herders have said that the coal trucks are destroying their grasslands, and threatening their way of life. Protests began earlier this week, and continued through Thursday, with thousands taking to the streets. More than a thousand students protested in northern China's Inner Mongolia on Tuesday in front of the local government building. The unrest was sparked by the death of a herder on May 10. The growing coal mining industry has been displacing Mongol herders, destroying grazing lands and killing livestock. Local residents in the Xilingol area have been complaining about coal trucks driving around the plains and destroying the land. While more than a dozen herders tried to stop mining trucks from entering their land, one of the herders was run over by a truck and died. The herder's death sparked outcry. Since Sunday night, locals have joined in large street protests. On Monday, authorities dispatched riot police to face off against hundreds demonstrating at the local government building. The protests continued on Tuesday with more than 1000 Mongol students taking to the streets. These photos provided by protestors show the group reaching Xilinhot City building, calling on authorities to respect the ...

Mongolia Andy's Video Diary 15

The 2nd part of my travels in Mongolia. I travel to Bayan Olgii in the far west of Mongolia, its as far as you can get from Ulaanbaatar. There I give a seminar at the local hospital in Olgii and then travel to the spectacular Tavan Bogd National Park to do a 7 day trek. Its my longest edition yet but I think its worth at least 20 minutes, great scenery and more great Mongolian music! The full version is 90 minutes and covers the trek in more detail as well as the many rials and tribulations and controversies of travelling in Mongolia, plus the story of the horrendous 67 hour bus ride back. If you want a to watch that give me a shout.
