The Empty Mind - Shaolin Temple Warrior Monks
This is a clip of the Shaolin Temple scene from The Empty Mind Documentary. These warrior monks are students of Monk ShiDeYang, one of top Shaolin monks and who we will see in later clips I will post. This scene is not strictly in the Temple, but like most monks they train just outside Shaolin Temple itself.

The Monks were an English punk band formed in the 1970s, by former members of Strawbs - Richard Hudson, John Ford and Terry Cassidy, along with Clive Pearce (drums). Hudson played guitar, having switched from drums. Their first album, Bad Habits, was released in 1979. The album spawned a number 19 hit single in the UK Singles Chart — "Nice Legs Shame About Her Face".[1] The song was originally a demo not intended for release and Ford later commented in Mojo magazine, that "it was a bit of a problem when it was a hit." [2] They dabbled with 1930s style music in 1980 as 'High Society', before returning to the pseudo-punk format of The Monks for a follow-up album released in Canada only. Brian Willoughby (guitar) and Chris Parren (keyboards) joined for that second album, Suspended Animation. While the album failed to produce further UK chart success, the band were huge in Canada particularly, playing stadium gigs; Suspended Animation went gold in Canada, and pushed sales of Bad Habits to double platinum certification in 1982. The CD re-release of Suspended Animation included six bonus tracks, recorded for a third album, but never before released, by Hudson, Ford and Cassidy — Huw Gower guested on one track on lead guitar. Their song "Ain't Gettin' Any" was covered by The Slickee Boys, and appears on their live album, A Postcard from the Day. Singles "Nice Legs Shame About Her Face" "Johnny B. Shaolin Monk Rain Demonstration
The Shaolin Monks of China perform a private demonstration for United Studios of Self Defense an American Martial Arts Organization. The demonstration took place at the Shaolin Temples in Henan China. The monks performed the demonstration even though it rained. The Shaolin temples (Shàolín Sì) are a group of Chinese Buddhist monasteries famed for their long association with Chán (Japanese Zen) Buddhism and martial arts. They are perhaps the Buddhist monasteries most familiar in the West. The name "Shaolin" means "Young Forest". Shaolin is situated on China's central Taoist sacred mountain, Songshan in Henan province. It was founded during the Northern Wei dynasty in approximately 497 AD and remains one of China's oldest Buddhist temples. It was said to have been used as a home by the Indian monk Batuo during the thirty years he spent preaching Nikaya Buddhism in China. Probably the most famous name associated with Shaolin is that of Bodhidharma or Tamo (pinyin: Dámó), an Indian monk who travelled to China in 5th century to teach Buddhism. A traditional story relates that Bodhidharma sat in meditation facing a wall in a nearby cave for nine years. Bodhidharma's ministry at Shaolin formed the basis for what would later be called the Zen or, in China, Chán (both terms means Meditation) school of Buddhism. After entering Shaolin, it is said that Bodhidharma found the monks out of shape from a lifetime spent only in study and scholasticism, so he introduced a regimen of <b>...</b>

And now it's been spectacularly brought into ill-repute after senior monks from the largest Buddhist order in the country were caught red-handed setting a bad example by indulging in a cheeky little poker game. Gambling in the country is illegal everywhere except for inside just one casino that's in the north east of the country. So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that these monks - who are from the Jogye Order - seen here smoking, drinking and flipping playing cards on the floor of a luxury hotel room are flouting the law. As soon as the footage was aired on national TV yesterday, 6 of the 8 monks in the room offered to resign. Leader Master Jinjea, a high-ranker from the order -- who wasn't even there at the time - said on local TV 'Those monks committed a foolish act and I confess my sin for their wrongdoings' It was a fellow monk who secretly shot the footage and then tipped off the police and the media. Excerpt from a documentary series featuring the Transalpine Redemptorist monks of Papa Stronsay, Scotland - a congregation of traditionalist Catholic Fathers and Brothers of both Eastern and Western Rite from all over the world. The documentary was filmed in September 2003 and originally aired on Channel 4 (UK) in 2004. The congregation was founded in 1988 by Fr Michael Mary and Fr Anthony Mary on the advice of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Their aim was to found a new Redemptorist congregation which observed the original Rule of Saint Alphonsus and ignored the reforms adopted by modern Redemptorists following the Second Vatican Council. The congregation moved from the Isle of Sheppy in Kent, England, to Papa Stronsay in 1999. The island was considered ideal because of its seclusion from the world and ancient connection with the monastic tradition.
