Dog chases moose... does he live? It started by filming a moose in our front yard, not an uncommon sight for Anchorage, Alaska. The neighbor's Jack Russell Terrier decided to take on the moose about midway through the video. Moose kill dogs and the occasional human here, so the situation got tense while the unruly dog harassed the increasingly irritated moose. Our Senegal Parrot can be heard screeching at the moose in the background (see my video "Parrot Dinner Time" for a humerous look at this guy - www.youtube.com ).

MOOSE were a British indie rock band who formed in London in 1990. Moose have been credited by some as being the first band to be called "shoegazers" which was inspired by an early gig of theirs at which Russell Yates sang lyrics taped to the floor. Moose's first three EPs, however, are their only releases which feature the intense guitar effects that characterize shoegazing. Bull Moose Jackson was born in Cleveland in 1919. He was basically discovered when Wynonie Harris missed a gig. His Buffalo Bearcats recorded a number of risque songs. Bull Moose died in 1989. RIP.

A bull moose displays the flehmen response after smelling fresh cow moose urine. Females in estrus, usually around October 1, emit a scent which is attractive to bulls. The bulls sense the odor by lifting up their heads, curling back their lips and sniffing the air. This is called the Flehmen Response. There is an olfactory organ in the back of a moose's palate which determines if a cow has ovulated.

I was showing my son the wild moose that decided to bed down right outside our window when unexpectedly, a lady just showed up and started petting it! I was amazed. She must have had a calming effect on the animal because I've always heard that this is quite dangerous. She and the moose both go their separate ways after a few moments. Moose are amazing animals and its quite a privilege to see them all the time in Alaska. Its one of the perks of living here I suppose. Anyway, the person in this video was unharmed but remember: This can be very dangerous! Never attempt to touch or get close to a wild moose. No matter how calm and mild they may seem. People die trying to do this stuff. Its not worth it.
