Multitrack of "Platforms a Plenty" from Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube (the acapella Mario theme song in the warp/secret levels) This is my first time trying something like this, and despite a couple spots that aren't great, I'm happy with how it turned out. I'm a tenor, so although I was able to hit the high G5 (sitting just above the treble clef) that pops up a couple times, I had to cheat and use some digital magic to get down to the low C2 (a couple lines below the bass cleff). Filmed against my bedroom wall (which has Blik Mario decals on it) with my Canon point and shoot digital camera balanced on my bed (I broke my tripod earlier this year). One Day - HD - Matisyahu - Acappella - Multitrack It's been a while since my last multitrack video. While on Facebook, I ran across this song on a friends page. I had heard it before and really liked it. As I listened to the words and the great harmony I thought this would make a great multitrack. This song was written by Matisyahu, a Jewish, prodominantly reggae artist. He speaks of freedom, unity, and a world with no war. And although life can be difficult at times, we can never let it get us down, turning the negative thoughts into a hope for a positive future. A wonderful song that I hope you enjoy. This song required 33 audio tracks and 23 video. It is 100% acappella including the drum sounds. On the beat box bass drum, I added 2 seperate EQ's and compressed the heck out of it to give it the chest punching sound. I actually sing "doo" with a hard accent on the D to provide the sound. Down - HD - Jay Sean Cover - Acappella - Multitrack I have always loved this song and believe it or not, I started working on this song prior to the group Nota singing it on national television on the show Sing-Off. I couldn't believe what I was seeing/hearing when I heard them. They are wonderful! This song required 22 audio tracks and 17 video. Some of the audio tracks I did not make a video to like the awkward laugh at the end and other small parts. It is 100% acappella (my voice, my two sons voices, and beat box). It took two weeks to record the audio and 2 days to record the video. Two of the video tracks are my sons providing the upward oohhs. They did a great job at reproducing the sound on Jay Seans song. Of course, my vocals have the autotune effect that Jay Sean is known for in this song. On the beat box bass drum, I added 2 seperate EQ's and compressed the heck out of it to give it the chest punching sound. I actually sing "doo" with a hard accent on the D to provide the sound. Using Sony Vegas Pro as my video editor, it took 8 hours to render into HD. I am not sure what happened at 2:23 as there is a heavy computer glitch. I re-rendered 3 different times (8 hours a piece) and it did the same glitch. After watching it a couple of times, I thought it looked kind of neat so I just went with it. PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION! and WATCH IN HD! Well, I think almost every guy knows the feeling we get when there's a girl who drives us crazy, and Keith Urban was clever enough to write a song about it. Even though I've only started listening to country in the last few years (being more of a jazz enthusiast myself), I realized how much I like Keith's songwriting, and how relatable his songs are, which is really common in country and folk music. So when I first heard this song last summer, I knew it would be a song I'd like to record somehow, and so I finally did it. This took me a solid week of steady work (over 50 hours) to transcribe, record, mix and edit. And I tried to get it to sound as much like the original as possible (apart from a guitar solo I added and some altered horn arrangements). This is probably my best sounding work, although there aren't any really virtuosic elements to this song, I think the orchestration blends really well as a whole and all the separate elements come together so I'm very proud to present this on youtube, and I hope one day Keith himself sees it. In this tutorial I walk you through how to do multi track recording in Garageband 09. I'm not covering software instruments or MIDI, that will have to be a different tutorial. Most of what I go over can be applied to previous versions of Garageband or other recording software as well, because there are always similarities with any multitrack software. A comparison of old and new technologies: the 1980s Tascam PortaOne Ministudio (a four-track cassette recorder) and the new Tascam DP-008 Pocketstudio (digital 44.1/16 bit, eight-track recorder) from 2010. While this video was meant to be more nostalgic than anything else, I guess it ended up as a review of the DP-008, which I am so very please with. I received my DP-008 one week ago and have used it every day since! I doubt I'll ever have these two units out again, side by side like this, so I decided to shoot a video. I purchased by PortaOne new in 1987 and used it for over a decade until I became more and more involved with computer recording. It was always a very reliable machine. Recently I decided to update some things in my studio and looked at what Tascam had to offer. I had been using their digital DR-1 for field recordings and for some of my musical projects, but really was in need of a multi-track recorder. Initially I was going to purchase Tascam's four track DP-004 (even had it in my "cart" on Amazon), but after looking up the price of the DP-008 (their scaled-up eight-track recorder), and comparing its features to my needs, it was a no-brainer. I couldn't be more happy, now that I own a DP-008!! It is feature-laden, offers many user-changeable settings (input assignments, mic/line levels, etc....), and is quite intuitive to operate.
