Well, what to say about this game. This is the unwanted stepchild of the Rastan Saga series. It manages to get nearly everything that makes a action game great wrong. Sluggish and unresponsive control. Terrible level design. Cheap quarter-munching gameplay. Laughable animations of main player character. At least the music is catchy. OGR is reponsible for that aspect (he composed the music for the Darius series). I decided to do a video of it because there is almost nothing on this game anywhere and I want people to see how much of a mess it really is. So sit back, and enjoy the infamous... NASTAR WARRIOR! :p

On 11 May 2011 Keith Cowing took three simulated Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two rides in the NASTAR Center centrifuge. This video contains the first two rides. The first ride is at 50% acceleration, the second is at full, 100% acceleration. The portions of the video while Keith was under acceleration contain audio only since the helmet camera he was using to record these rides was stowed inside his flight suit. During the Zero G portion of the simulated ride he took the camera out to provide a view inside the cockpit.

Nastar is a hack and slash side-scroller. You're a muscle-packed barbarian on his quest to defeat the evil wizard. Not much more to say here. The controls are stiff and some situations are just unfair. A lot of trial and error involved here. The graphics and animations are average at best. On the other hand it has some good music, but all in all it's not a good arcade game.

This 18 March 2011 Space Training Simulator (STS) sequence mimics, in real time, the blast-off and atmosphere re-entry aboard SpaceShipTwo, with the voice of the NASTAR Center's director of education Greg Kennedy as Flight International freelance writer Alaina Mabaso's only comfort. "Due to health considerations, my profile, which tops 3gs, runs at 50% of the usual profile (up to 6 g's)," says Mabaso. "You're seeing two different high-g coping methods for g's in different axes: The Anti-G Straining Maneuver's muscle-tensing and glottal hook, which should commence prior to acceleration, and positive pressure breathing: a measured exhalation through pursed lips (participants try to concentrate on their lungs, not how they look on camera under high G-forces). The quiet spate in the middle of the simulation represents the actual amount of time civilian astronauts will be in space (it's no ride to the moon), and then the re-entry sequence commences. STS riders love to show off their "push-ups" on this earth-bound rocket ship -- at high Gs, your arms are so heavy that just lifting them is a novel workout. This ride is the culmination of two days' training: at first, the STS left me in utter terror, but as you can see when the laughs kick in, someday I might even consider a real ride into space."
