Girl's Guide - Tiler Peck - NYC Ballet

Get more from The Girls' Guide at Teen.com Two young dancers' dreams come true when they meet Tiler Peck, the principal dancer in NYC Ballet's prestigious Nutcracker! About Tiler Peck: 21, Ballerina, Principal Dancer, Full Time Sugar Plum Fairy We asked Tiler: How do you push through not feeling well or a bad day when you have to be onstage? "Whenever I am exhausted, feeling down, or questioning whether or not I am going to be able to make it through a performance I always remind myself of the reason why I dance. I dance because I simply love it. That is a very special thing because many individuals are not able to have a profession that is also their hobby and love of life; therefore, I feel very lucky. Dancing is also unique because it allows you to temporarily forget reality. Dancing takes you to another level, a different dreamlike world." - Tiler The New York City Ballet performs The Nutcracker Nov. 29th through January 2, 2011 at the David H. Koch Theater. New York City Ballet: Bringing Balanchine Back - Trailer

'New York City Ballet: Bringing Balanchine Back' follows the New York City Ballet, lead by Master in Chief Peter Martins to the Mariinsky theater in St. Petersburg, where ballet legend and NYC Ballet co-founder George Balanchine, along with other greats, took their first ballet steps. The eagerly anticipated trip is the first for the company since 1972 and is gracefully illustrated with both behind-the-scenes and performance footage.

Bringing Balanchine Back - New York City Ballet

I Taught what I learned as a child in St. Petersburg at the Mariinsky School. - George Balanchine The Historic Return to Russia New York City Ballet: Bringing Balanchine Back tells the story of New York City Ballet's historic visit to St. Petersburg, Russia to perform at the famed Mariinsky Theater, where ballet legend and NYCB co-founder George Balanchine received his training and began his career. One of the most famous theaters in the world, the Mariinsky is where Tschaikovsky created The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty, and where other greats of the ballet world such as Nureyev, Nijinsky and Baryshnikov took their first ballet steps. The eagerly-anticipated trip coincides with the worldwide celebrations marking the centennial of Balanchine's birth, and takes place during St. Petersburg's annual White Nights festival. Included is performance footage of several of Balanchine's most acclaimed works, as well as ballets by Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins, and a rare glimpse behind-the-scenes for a number of backstage dramas. Through interviews with NYCB's dancers and artistic staff, Russian audiences and performers, and the sights and sounds of an extraordinary city, Bringing Balanchine Back is a beautiful and unforgettable look at Balanchine's birthplace and his legacy — New York City Ballet. Tchaikovsky / Robert Irving, NYC Ballet Orchestra, 1959: Nutcracker, Suites 1 & 2, Complete

In this 1959 recording, the late English conductor Robert Irving (1913-1991) leads the New York City Ballet Orchestra in a performance of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Suites 1 and 2. Icreated this video from the LP that is shown above, issued on the Kapp label in 1960, serial number 9048. Maestro Irving was music director for the NYC Ballet from 1959 through 1989. I'd like to thank Earl Carlyss, former concertmaster of the NYC Ballet Orchestra and violinist with the Juilliard String Quartet (1966-1986), for making his personal copy of this extremely rare and extraordinary LP available to me to produce this video. To preserve the depth of sound that was available to recording engineers at the time this LP was pressed some 50 years ago, I did not use any software to adjust the audio quality to remove small noises and distortion. So that no questions arise in the listeners' mind as to the provenance of this and similarly rare and historical recordings, I rely for images on the LP label (3:43, 30:57) and jacket, front (15:20) and reverse.
