Sweded TV - Bear Girly "Man vs. Navan"

Season 2 - Episode 3 Survival hero Bear Girly faces the terrifying terrain of Co Meath, grappling with cows and battling to understand the curious mutterings of the natives. The Black Belts are a group of four friends Jamie Gorman, Pamela Parke, Jack and Jonney English - who met at martial arts classes and who share an interest in parkour or freerunning. They caught the attention of the Sweded TV team both with their hilarious sweding ideas and their home-made parkour videos. The Swedes were filmed at Jamies house and at his grandfathers farm across the road, and feature parkour-style jumping when Jamie, as Bear Girly, leaps out of a plane, or rather jumps big jumps on his kid sisters trampoline! Bridge Folk Navan - Two little Orphans

The Bridge Folk from Navan Recorded in 1970. Michael Meegan, Gerry, Nuala and Bernie Meegan singing together. Track 6 TWO LITTLE ORPHANS (Traditional - Irish) Two little children, a boy an' a girl Sat by the ol' church door The little girls feet were as brown as the curl That fell on the dress that she wore The boys coat was faded and hatless his head A tear shown in each little eye Why don't you run home to your Mamma, I said An' this was the maidens reply Mamma's in Heaven, they took her away Left Jim an' I all alone We came here to stay till the close of the day For we have no Mamma, no home We cain't earn our bread, we're too little, she said Jim five an' I only seven There's no one to love us since Papa is gone An' our darling Mamma is in heaven Papa was lost out on the sea, long ago We waited all night, on the shore For he was a life saving captain, you know But 'e never came back anymore Then, Mamma got sick, angels took her away They said, to a home fair and bright She said, she would come for her darlings sometime Perhaps she is coming tonight Perhaps there's no room up in Heaven, she said For two little darlings to keep She then placed her hand under Jims little head She kissed him, and both fell asleep The sexton came early to ring the church bell He found them under the snow white The angels made room for two orphans, to dwell In Heaven, with Mother that night *****

Michelle Burke - Hey Mama - Navan - The Band Wagon Tv - 2nd June 2011

After honing her craft as lead vocalist with Irish/American super group Cherish the Ladies, Michelle is now embarking on a solo career with the unveiling of her debut solo album 'pulling threads' a stunningly assured collection of classic ballads and lesser-known gems, produced by the award-winning fiddler and composer Aidan O'Rourke (Lau/Blazin' Fiddles). Full of atmospheric, subtly sophisticated arrangements involving a stellar array of guests, including Kris Drever, karine Polwart, Martin Green and James Ross, it vibrantly highlights the rich stylistic and expressive breadth of Burke's singing. Although based in Edinburgh since 2002, honing her craft in the thick of today's dynamic Scottish folk scene, Burke hails originally from rural East Cork, where she grew up in a music-loving household. Michelle studied music at University College Cork; where she earned a B/Mus and went on to earn an MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the Irish World Music Centre at Limerick University in 2001 as the first singer to graduate from Michael O Suilleabhain's course. Michelle signed up as lead-singer with Cherish the Ladies in April 2008 and spent two years traveling with the long-established and illustrious outfit. During her time with the Ladies Michelle toured extensively singing to crowds of thousands across North America, Alaska, Canada and Europe and sang on their critically acclaimed album 'A Star In The East'. Alongside performing in art centers and at folk festivals ...

Deirin De by Navan

For years my boys insisted on having this song each night in order to fall asleep. There is a game the children play by poking sticks into the fire until the tips are glowing. They then sing this song, swinging their briogadain to see whose will be the last to burn out and send up the deirin de, the last puff of smoke. For us it was a lullaby so I wanted to share it with Daisy.

Jim McKee - Goodness Comes From The Heart - Navan Town - The Band Wagon Tv - 14th Dec 2010

Jim McKee is a renaissance man, a singer, a songwriter, a musician, a bit of a philosopher and very much a visual artist. He was born in Cookstown County Tyrone in 1970, the heat of the troubles. Some of the violence and incidents and hatred he witnessed in those days haunt him still and memories and evocations of those dark and troubled times are occasionally recorded in his songs and paintings. For some ten years now, he has lived in the Burren. It has become his spiritual home, a major factor in his life. He finds inspiration all around him... in a cluster of wild flowers, a bend of the lane, a corner of a bog, a tractor in the landscape, Boats at rest at the quay, the colours of the Burren. He has a story for every painting and each one is important to him. His images are emotional and enthusiastic responses to his surroundings. There is a wonderful spontaneity about his work, as he sculpts with paint while recording and capturing that magical moment that triggered off the response. Some locations in his paintings are identifiable, but most are quiet little corners he has discovered himself. He is self taught and is fearless with paint. He has developed, in a short space of time, a personal and recognisable style, imbued with life and energy and colour. He uses a palette knife, virtually playing the oils like a musical instrument, and the results are humorous and honest, impressionistic renderings and reflections of Ireland today, its passing traditions, its people ...

Na Fianna - Wagon Wheel - Navan Town - The Band Wagon Tv - 2nd Mar 2011

Na Fianna are a four-piece Irish Trad & ballad group hailing from the midlands, the heart of Ireland. The Band comprises of he Walsh brothers, Damian and John, are from Ballinakill and Lee is from Durrow, both in County Laois. Ross is from Loughboy in the city of Kilkenny. They have been playing together since March 2007 and are continuously building on their reputation as great entertaining balladeers. The energy and passion on show in each performance is something the lads thrive on. Na Fianna feels they are somewhat unique in that they do not have a lead singer. The lads are all highly skilled musicians and powerful singers too. They play and sing the music they like -- and they play it and sing it the way that they think it should be performed. The band is going from strength to strength having supported Bagatelle in the summer of 2007. Indeed these lads have travelled and played in various parts of the country from Kerry to Killybegs as they embrace the songs and stories of the past whilst succeeding in making each one their own. In 2007 they received and continue their first residency in Lanigans in Kilkenny every Thursday Night at 9pm. The lads also toured London for St Patricks weekend in March 2008. The part-time musicians had been working normal jobs by day and moonlighting in pubs also. The Lost Brothers - Pale Moon - Navan - The Band Wagon Tv - 24th July 2010

Some say the lost brothers sound like a ragged everly brothers. Others say they sound like the lost brothers. It is said that the lost brothers formed two years ago in the summer heat of liverpool. It is also said that the lost brothers wrote a book of songs that autumn, and in the dead of winter they recorded the songs in an attic in Portland, Oregon. We know that the lost brothers released these songs on their debut album (trails of the lonely) to a heap of praise from the likes of NME, Word magazine, Hot Press, and their fans (losties). Through the following year, the lost brothers have been spotted in person, performing at Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Texas (SXSW), New York, Portland, Toronto, Paris, and a hop, skip and jump across the land of the UK and the their beloved Ireland. In their journeys they have toured and played along with many, including Richard Hawley, M Ward, Jolie Holland, The Handsome Family, The Swell Season,Micah P Hinson, Richmond Fontaine, among others. It is whispered that the lost brothers are currently hiding in sheffield, recording a number of songs under watchful eyes and a new album will be upon us soon..

Simon Fagan - Damn Honey - Navan - The Band Wagon Tv - 18th Feb 2010

infectious and inventive, with brilliant vocals -Hotpress I love it when I hear something this compelling and recognize it on a first listen Huffington post Im currently in the studio recording my debut album, which is coming along better then I had expected. We have most of the songs recorded and you can listen to the lead single Damn Honey above. I hope to get the whole thing finished by the end of the month and will be releasing it in May. From the album you can expect upbeat funky tunes mixed with a hint of deep south guitar picking washed down with a bottle of Jack! Damn Honey is due out on the 5th March and we are currently booking gigs and radio appearances for Feb and March. Im also looking at touring the UK and Egypt in the coming months. Last year was a big year for me. I got to play over 70 live shows and appear on close to 30 radio shows, including 9 BBC primetime shows and RTE Radio 1s Today With Pat Kenny. Im looking to return to each of these shows and have been offered a full band recording in the RTE Live Studio in the coming months. In September I brought my band over to Egypt for 2 weeks where we got to play some of the most amazing venues and even perform on National Egyptian TV and Radio. A lot of people compare my music to that of Ray Lamontagne, Ryan Adams and Paolo Nutini, as you will find elements of jazz, soul, acoustic and rock and even folk which I guess comes from listening to artists like Credence, Van Morrrison, Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder ...

Eugene Donegan - Tonight Is The Night - Navan - The Band Wagon Tv - 22nd Feb 2010

Meath singer/songwriter Eugene Donegan released his eagerly anticipated debut album Little Apples in 2009. With his debut album Little Apples, Eugene Donegan is intent on carrying the listener with him on an ambitious trip which takes in the formation of the Roman empire, the mundane everyday life of his hometown of Navan, and even to heaven. Wherever the destination, love is seldom far from Eugenes mind, and its the kind that seldom works out. Dissecting failed relationships and lamenting lost love over the course of an album is a bleak prospect, but Eugenes stunning musical settings somehow manages to uplift the listener, or at least break their fall. In the fragile beauty of Loved You Too Much and Marthas Field, Eugene equals any of Ryan Adams haunting ballads of loss, while in the country-tinged Tonight Is The Night he echoes the honest, heart-warming delivery of his hero Kris Kristofferson. He even doffs his cap to compatriot Paul Brady in the opening bars of the ambitious The Gods Are With Us. However under the guidance of producer and collaborator Declan ORourke (Since Kyabram, Big Bad Beautiful World), Little Apples charm lies in Eugenes ability to confidently forge a style which is uniquely his own. Eugene Donegans debut marks a new voice in the pantheon of Irish storytellers, it is now only a matter of time before it is heard. Featuring 11 tracks honed from Eugenes personal experiences, the subject matter is sometimes difficult but the songs are uplifting and ...
