Amazing Space - Helix Nebula ..

.." godly eye " The Helix Nebula is one of the closest of all planetary nebulae, lying at a distance of about 400 light years from Earth. detail info : hubblesite.org To find the nebula, start from Fomalhaut (Alpha Piscis Austrinus) and move your telescope 11 degrees northwest to 5th-magnitude 47 Aquarii. From this star slide two degrees east to Upsilon Aquarii, and you're almost there. The Helix Nebula is just one degree west of this star. The planetary appears bright at magnitude 7.3, and a huge 12.8 arcminutes across. This is about half the size of the Full Moon! However, despite its large size the nebula is faint and has a low surface brightness, making it hard to pick out from the sky background. Small scopes show NGC 7293 as a circular misty patch, and a 150-mm telescope reveals that the center is dark and contains a 13th-magnitude star. If observed from a dark location the Helix is visible even with binoculars, that show the object as a large circular hazy spot. Rich-field instruments with wide-angle eyepieces are ideal for picking up objects like this on the night sky. Finder map - field width 15 degrees, stars to magnitude 10.

Interstellar Clouds And Dark Nebulae

Science & Reason on Facebook: tinyurl.com Look for dark interstellar clouds blocking patches of Milky Way stars! What's up for July 2010: Dark Nebulae in the Milky Way Galaxy ... with Jane Houston Jones at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com --- We live in the Milky Way Galaxy. If you were looking down on the Milky Way, it would look like a large pinwheel rotating in space. Our Galaxy is a spiral galaxy that formed approximately 14 billion years ago. Contained in the Milky Way are stars, clouds of dust and gas called nebulae, planets, and asteroids. Stars, dust, and gas fan out from the center of the Galaxy in long spiraling arms. The Milky Way is approximately 100000 light-years in diameter. Our solar system is 26000 light-years from the center of the Galaxy. All objects in the Galaxy revolve around the Galaxy's center. It takes 250 million years for our Sun (and the Earth with it) to make one revolution around the center of the Milky Way. When you look up at the night sky, most of the stars you see are in one of the Milky Way arms. Before we had telescopes, people could not see many of the stars very clearly. They blurred together in a white streak across the sky. A myth by the ancient Greeks said this white streak was a "river of milk". The ancient Romans called it the Via Galactica, or "road made of milk". This is how our Galaxy ...

NGC 7293 Helix Nebula: A New Twist

A Video News Release explains how the shapes of planetary nebulae are deceiving. Astronomers combined highly detailed images of the Helix Nebula from the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys, with images from the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. From these observations, they were able to analyze the data and construct a 3-D model from measurements of the Helix Nebula using ground-based optical and radio telescopes to show the speed and direction of the outflows of material from the nebula. The team found surprises in their data that indicate that the Helix's structure is even more perplexing than originally thought.

Massive Supernova And Nebula Seen In the Universe

What secrets do these massive powerful events in our universe hold? Possibly our very future? PLEASE SUBSCRIBE A supernova (plural supernovae) is a stellar explosion that is more energetic than a nova. Supernovae are extremely luminous and cause a burst of radiation that often briefly outshines an entire galaxy, before fading from view over several weeks or months. During this short interval a supernova can radiate as much energy as the Sun is expected to emit over its entire life span. The explosion expels much or all of a star's material at a velocity of up to 30000 km/s (10% of the speed of light), driving a shock wave into the surrounding interstellar medium. This shock wave sweeps up an expanding shell of gas and dust called a supernova remnant. Several types of supernovae exist. Types I and II can be triggered in one of two ways, either turning off or suddenly turning on the production of energy through nuclear fusion. After the core of an aging massive star ceases generating energy from nuclear fusion, it may undergo sudden gravitational collapse into a neutron star or black hole, releasing gravitational potential energy that heats and expels the star's outer layers. Alternatively a white dwarf star may accumulate sufficient material from a stellar companion (either through accretion or via a merger) to raise its core temperature enough to ignite carbon fusion, at which point it undergoes runaway nuclear fusion, completely disrupting it. Stellar cores whose ...

Nebulosa Nebula Nébuleuse Nebel

A nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen gas and plasma. Originally nebula was a general name for any extended astronomical object, including galaxies beyond the Milky Way (some examples of the older usage survive; for example, the Andromeda Galaxy was referred to as the Andromeda Nebula before galaxies were discovered by Edwin Hubble). Nebulae often form star-forming regions, such as in the Eagle Nebula. This nebula is depicted in one of NASA's most famous images, the "Pillars of Creation". In these regions the formations of gas, dust and other materials 'clump' together to form larger masses, which attract further matter, and eventually will become big enough to form stars. The remaining materials are then believed to form planets, and other planetary system objects.

Carina Nebula in 3d HD

How the carina nebula would look in space as you pass it a few lightyears by. The Carina Nebula (also known as the Great Nebula in Carina, the Eta Carina Nebula, or NGC 3372) is a large bright nebula that surrounds several open clusters of stars. Eta Carinae and HD 93129A, two of the most massive and luminous stars in our Milky Way galaxy, are among them. The nebula lies at an estimated distance between 6500 and 10000 light years from Earth. It is located in the constellation of Carina. The nebula contains multiple O-type stars. The nebula is one of the largest diffuse nebulae in our skies. Although it is some four times as large and even brighter than the famous Orion Nebula, the Carina Nebula is much less well known, due to its location far in the Southern Hemisphere. It was discovered by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in 175152 from the Cape of Good Hope. Within the large bright nebula is a much smaller feature, immediately surrounding Eta Carinae itself. This small nebula is known as the Homunculus Nebula (from the Latin meaning Little Man), and is believed to have been ejected in an enormous outburst in 1841 which briefly made Eta Carinae the second-brightest star in the sky.

3d View of the Orion Nebula

How it would look closer up and traversing space near it. the camera would have to pan many lightyears to simulate t his view in real life! The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south[b] of Orion's Belt. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1344 ± 20 light years[2][5] and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The M42 nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. Older texts frequently referred to the Orion Nebula as the Great Nebula in Orion or the Great Orion Nebula. The Nebula is in fact part of a much larger nebula that is known as the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. The Orion Molecular Cloud Complex extends throughout the constellation of Orion and includes Barnard's Loop, the Horsehead Nebula, M43, M78 and the Flame Nebula. Stars are forming throughout the Orion Nebula, and due to this heat-intensive process the region is particularly prominent in the infrared. The nebula is visible with the naked eye even from areas affected by some light pollution. It is seen as the middle "star" in the sword of Orion, which are the three stars located south of Orion's Belt. The star appears fuzzy to sharp-eyed observers, and the nebulosity is obvious through binoculars or a small telescope. The Orion Nebula contains a very young open cluster, known as the Trapezium due to the asterism of its primary four stars. Two of these can ...

Baby Stars In The Rosette Nebula [1080p]

Herschel's latest image reveals the formation of previously unseen large stars, each one up to ten times the mass of our Sun. These are the stars that will influence where and how the next generation of stars are formed. The image is a new release of OSHI, ESA's Online Showcase of Herschel Images. The Rosette Nebula resides some 5000 light years from Earth and is associated with a larger cloud that contains enough dust and gas to make the equivalent of 10000 Sun-like stars. The Herschel image shows half of the nebula and most of the Rosette cloud. The massive stars powering the nebula lie to the right of the image but are invisible at these wavelengths. Each colour represents a different temperature of dust, from -263ºC (only 10ºC above absolute zero) in the red emission to -233ºC in the blue. The bright smudges are dusty cocoons hiding massive protostars. These will eventually become stars containing around ten times the mass of the Sun. The small spots near the centre and in the redder regions of the image are lower mass protostars, similar in mass to the Sun. ESA's Herschel space observatory collects the infrared light given out by dust. This image is a combination of three infrared wavelengths, colour-coded blue, green and red in the image, though in reality the wavelengths are invisible to our eyes. It was created using observations from Herschels Photoconductor Array Camera and Spectrometer (PACS) and the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE). Herschel ...

Could The Orion Nebula Hold The Templates To Life On Earth?

Links & Info Below: While science is finding molecules, particles, or what have you to show that places like the Orion Nebula are cooking up life, I have been forming my own opinion based on what I am seeing. I have not found what I see "so far" in any other nebula as I see it in the Orion Nebula. I am going out on a limb but I will speculate that I believe our creation happened there and that our solar system formed from that nebula a long time ago. However, I continue remain objective and I am fine with any other possibility. My opinion is based on the depth of holographic images that show endless and highly detailed knowledge of what life looks like here on earth. I cannot find it like this in other nebulae so far. Orion Nebula Gives Clues To Origin Of Life On Earth www.discoveryon.info An international team of astronomers investigated the Orion Nebula and found a process that may have played a role in the development of life on Earth. Fukue and Tamura of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan conducted the research on the properties of light in a massive star-forming region (BN/KL nebula) of the Orion Nebula. The origin of "biomolecular homochirality" characterizes most life forms on Earth. Chirality refers to the handedness of an image or phenomenon, which is not identical to the mirror image of its counterpart, much as the right and left hands are similar in structure but are opposites and thus not the same. Therefore, biomolecular homochirality indicates an ...

Diving into the Lagoon Nebula

Through three giant images, the GigaGalaxy Zoom project reveals the full sky as it appears with the unaided eye from one of the darkest deserts on Earth, then zooms in on a rich region of the Milky Way using an amateur telescope, and finally uses the power of a professional telescope to reveal the details of a famous nebula. In this way, the project links the sky we can all see with the deep, hidden cosmos that astronomers study on a daily basis and allows the viewers to take a breathtaking dive into our Milky Way. The wonderful quality of the images is a testament to the splendour of the night sky at ESOs sites in Chile, which are the most productive astronomical observatories in the world.
