Amy Winehouse "Free Nelson Mandela" (Treacy version)

Amy Winehouse sings "Free Nelson Mandela" at the 46664 Concert in London in 2008. Her album "Back to Black" made Winehouse the first British singer to win five Grammys. The 46664 concerts are a series of AIDS charity events played in honour of Nelson Mandela by South African musicians. Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island in 1964, and was the 466th prisoner to arrive that year. "Free Nelson Mandela" is a song written by Jerry Dammers and performed by his Coventry-based band The Special AKA released on the single Nelson Mandela / Break Down The Door in 1984 as a protest against the imprisonment of Nelson Mandela. Unlike most protest songs, the track is upbeat and celebratory, drawing on musical influences from South Africa. The song reached No.9 in the UK charts and was immensely popular in Africa. Dr. Patrick Treacy was part of the "Free Nelson Mandela" campaign and worked in South Africa as a doctor after Nelson Mandela was freed. The video shows the badge he wore.

'INVICTUS' TRAILER in HD

appleplectic.blogspot.com Two words: OSCAR BOUND. "From director Clint Eastwood, 'Invictus' tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africas rugby team, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africas underdog rugby team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match." The poem 'INVICTUS' by William Ernest Henley, from which Nelson Mandela drew strength while in prison. "Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." appleplectic.blogspot.com

Nelson Mandela sings about killing whites

www.dienuwesuidafrika.com Nelson Mandela sings with his communist comrades about killing white people. For decades the ANC propagated this extreme hatred towards the white minority of South Africa. Has this contributed to the extreme violence being perpetrated against the white minority of South Africa today? FAQ Q:What does "bhulu" really mean? A: Answer from answers.yahoo.com by: Porgie (abridged) It does in fact mean "white people". Black South Africans used to and some still call "white South Africans" boer. It's a word derived from the Afrikaans word for farmer. "Ama" is the Xhosa prefix that means "a lot of" "bhulu" is the Xhosa word for "boer" The Xhosa people have a difficult time pronouncing "R", because the Xhosa pronounce this letter as the "ch" in Reich. They therefore substituted the "r" at the end of "boer" with the letter ''L". Lastly the "oe" sound is in fact "oo" as in moo or goo. The Xhosa people substituted this sound with the letter "u". So a direct translation should really be "boers", the plural for "boer" Definition of "boer": (NOUN: A Dutch colonist or descendant of a Dutch colonist in South Africa. ETYMOLOGY: Afrikaans, from Dutch, farmer, from Middle Dutch gheboer, peasant; see bheu- in Indo-European roots) And that's the story of "amabhulu". Some may find it offensive and some may translate it as negative. Source(s): I'm a language practitioner with majors in Afrikaans/Dutch and Xhosa. (by Porgie)

Portrait of Nelson Mandela- Dry Brush Technique (Oil Paint)

Two people inspired me to create this portrait. Nelson Mandela, the first democratically elected president of South Africa is obviously one. The other is an artist named Igor Kazarin who has a popular art channel on youtube called portraitdrawing. I wanted to try his amazing Dry Brush Technique which combines oil paint, watercolor paper and a kneaded eraser. I added my own touch to this portrait by finishing it with a prismacolor pencil. -Merrill Kazanjian If you want to try Dry Brush Technique, you will need: - Watercolor paper (At least 150 LBS) - Oil Paint (I am using Lamp Black.....this technique works in with color too) - Kneaded Eraser - I also used Prismacolor Color Pencils at the end (optional)

The Long Walk of Nelson Mandela (PBS Documentary)

thedropsquad.com As Nelson Mandela prepares to step down as president of South Africa, FRONTLINE presents a deeply personal biography of one of the great figures of the 20th century. "The Long Walk of Nelson Mandela" tells the story of the man behind the myth, probing Mandela's character, leadership and life's method through intimate recollections with friends, political allies, adversaries, and his fellow prisoners and jailers on Robben Island where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 prison years. It's a two-hour biography filled with insights: from Mandela's 'royal' upbringing in the rural Transkei where old chiefs still remember him as a young boy and where his values and attitudes were shaped by tradition and royal prerogative--to old colleagues' anecdotes about his self-discipline, guarded privacy and quite early sense of his own historic destiny. A major part of "The Long Walk of Nelson Mandela" probes how Mandela transformed himself in prison from an impetuous, risk-taking radical into a mature leader and statesman. On Robben Island he became the master of his own prison; through intelligence, charm and dignified defiance he bent to his will even the most brutal prison officials. And from this he took a great lesson, says Richard Stengel, co-author of his memoirs: "He realized that the relationship between him and his Afrikaans guards was a microcosm for the whole South African experience. If he could somehow come to some modus vivendi with his guards, then he could maybe ...
