A quick look at some menu settings and the first couple of levels of Metal Slug for the PS3. This game is part of the Neo Geo Station series available for the PS3 and presents a good port of the Neo Geo classic. You can select between the Euro and Japanese regions meaning that blood can be turned on or off. Something that you can't do on the regular console unless you have a universal bios mod! There is also online play via the PSN.

The netcode floored me. It's excellent. Other than a few hiccups when we connect, it was like we were in the same room. Mugen is in Dallas and I am in Austin. This is some gameplay from the PS3 port of Metal Slug. It's a good port. The presentation is excellent, with nice music on the main menu and plenty of Metal Slug art. The players can choose from a wide varity of options, listen to music from the main game, and read the digital manual. SNK has finally added a save state feature, something that was missing from Metal Slug Anthology, and a replay mode that lets the player save their run. There is also an online co-op mode that I have yet to try, but it's probably awesome nonetheless. However, this port is not without its problems. The picture quality on HD screens is solid, but the framerate is very unstable when there are a lot of explosions onscreen. The amount on continues the player is allowed is locked at four, which is far too little for the average player. Metal Slug is too difficult a game to have such limited room for error. It's also expensive for an old game. Still, it's Metal Slug, a game that deserves to be in every gamer's library.
