$89 Sylvania Windows CE Netbook detailed review
Two decades ago, you could buy a Sinclair ZX81 computer for under $100. Now you can get a much more capable "Netbooklet" for that price. Also known as the TinyBook, SmartBook, or Wireless Book, this is the 7-inch Sylvania Netbook, running Windows CE 6.0 on an ARM-compatible VIA 8505 CPU. It has built-in Wireless G connectivity, and has basic Internet functionality, including the ability to view YouTube videos. Normal PC applications will not run on it, but if you look hard enough, you can find software for Windows CE (whose interface will remind you a lot of Windows 95). Users have also reported some success in installing Linux or the Google Android operating system. Sylvania also has an "OS Update" available on their web site, but be warned that it wipes out all your files and removes some useful applications, so be sure to do a full backup before installing it.

www.netbooknews.com The Toshiba NB550D is a netbook unlike many of the netbooks that have come before it. It has a 10.1in glossy screen like most other netbooks on the market, but instead of running an Intel Atom CPU, the NB 550D is based on the AMD Fusion APU (accelerated processing unit), which is composed of an AMD C-50 CPU (1GHz) and ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics. This APU supplies much better overall performance then a typical Intel Atom--based netbook, and it's also competitive (and in some cases faster) than netbooks based on Intel's dual-core Atom CPU. The NB550D looks great and feels good to use, despite having speakers located on its palm rest. These speakers are from Harmon Kardon and they are much better than what can usually be found on netbooks. Put it this way you can actually use them to listen to music and watch movies. Despite being only a 10.1in netbook, the NB550D is actually a little bigger than a typical netbook, thanks to a deep palm rest and a wider-than-usual bezel around the screen. It has a good size keyboard that is very comfortable to hit; its touchpad is also fairly big. Around the edges of the netbook, you'll find three USB 2.0 ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, headphone and microphone jacks and an HDMI port. Overall, the NB550D feels sturdy, looks good, it's light and it has good speed for a netbook. Its got a sleek and slim profile that is inline with the Seashell lineup of Eee PCs. The attention to detail in design makes it rise to the top like cream, this is the netbook that Peter here at Netbook News is planning on buying and I am picking up the ASUS 1015PN which has a few tweaks including USB 3.0 & Nvidia Ion. Basic Specs The ASUS 1015 PEM is a 10.1-inch netbook with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 sporting an Intel Atom 1.5GHz N550 with a 250GB HDD (5400rpm) and 1GB of RAM which is upgradable to 2GB. Design The chassis finish of the netbook is soft to the touch and feels like its very good quality and at all like cheap plastic. Since its matte it is not the traditional finger print magnette we've seen on glossy models, you still get a few smudges but nothing significant. If black isn't your style you can also pick it up in blue, red, and white. Keyboard and TouchPad The keyboard was extremely functional, the shift key's could have bit a touch bigger for my liking. The overall performance of they keyboard layout met my expectations for a device that I aim to use for productivity.
