It 10.1 inch Netbook is running an Intel Atom N550 1.5GHz Processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM & a 250GB Shock resistant Hard Drive. Connectivity wise we've got the usual, bluetooth, wifi, 3 USB 2.0, vga, audio jacks, SD card reader, kensington lock, ethernet & the option for 3G. Taiwan will not be offered the 3G option on this early release. Its also got a few luxury extras such as its textured finish, sleep charge function as well as sleep music function which will allow you to plug in an mp3 player while the unit is off and use its amazing speakers. Right now you'll be able to pick this up in brown and orange, the lime green, and turquoise will be available next month along with an exciting announcement at CES, its going to be first for Toshiba Netbooks so be sure to keep a close eye on them at the show. If you wanted to pick this up here in Taiwan its a tad pricy at 18880NT ($610USD) but I'm told that in Q1 of next year we'll see it drop to around $500. Don't take these prices as gospel for a US release price, Taiwan can see higher prices on occasion.

www.netbooknews.com The Toshiba NB550D is a netbook unlike many of the netbooks that have come before it. It has a 10.1in glossy screen like most other netbooks on the market, but instead of running an Intel Atom CPU, the NB 550D is based on the AMD Fusion APU (accelerated processing unit), which is composed of an AMD C-50 CPU (1GHz) and ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics. This APU supplies much better overall performance then a typical Intel Atom--based netbook, and it's also competitive (and in some cases faster) than netbooks based on Intel's dual-core Atom CPU. The NB550D looks great and feels good to use, despite having speakers located on its palm rest. These speakers are from Harmon Kardon and they are much better than what can usually be found on netbooks. Put it this way you can actually use them to listen to music and watch movies. Despite being only a 10.1in netbook, the NB550D is actually a little bigger than a typical netbook, thanks to a deep palm rest and a wider-than-usual bezel around the screen. It has a good size keyboard that is very comfortable to hit; its touchpad is also fairly big. Around the edges of the netbook, you'll find three USB 2.0 ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, headphone and microphone jacks and an HDMI port. Overall, the NB550D feels sturdy, looks good, it's light and it has good speed for a netbook. The attention to detail in design makes it rise to the top like cream, this is the netbook that Peter here at Netbook News is planning on buying and I am picking up the ASUS 1015PN which has a few tweaks including USB 3.0 & Nvidia Ion. Basic Specs The ASUS 1015 PEM is a 10.1-inch netbook with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 sporting an Intel Atom 1.5GHz N550 with a 250GB HDD (5400rpm) and 1GB of RAM which is upgradable to 2GB. Design The chassis finish of the netbook is soft to the touch and feels like its very good quality and at all like cheap plastic. Since its matte it is not the traditional finger print magnette we've seen on glossy models, you still get a few smudges but nothing significant. If black isn't your style you can also pick it up in blue, red, and white. Keyboard and TouchPad The keyboard was extremely functional, the shift key's could have bit a touch bigger for my liking. The overall performance of they keyboard layout met my expectations for a device that I aim to use for productivity.
