Samurai Photographs of the Nineteenth Century

These Photographs were taken in the final days of the samurai class, before its abolition in 1867. It should be noted that some of these photographs date to the Meiji period. Many of these pictures were taken in the 1880's -therefore they show former samurai, or sometimes just ordinary people posing as samurai. NOTE: The last few pictures seen in this video show Tokugawa Yoshinobu, Japan's last Shogun and the famous reformer, Sakamoto Ryoma, who played a pivotal role in the modernisation of the country. We also see the new Police force(The seated uniformed man with the katana) as well as the last picture which displays the European military reformers and the westernized Japanese officers. Although these aren't samurai, they were added to show the revolutionary changes that were taking place in Japanese society at this time. Several of these Photographs were taken by the renowned photographer Felice Beato and his pupil, Raimund von Stillfried.

Gjennom de fagre riker på jorden Går vi til paradis med sang. Tider skal komme, tider skal henrulle, slekt skal følge slekters gang, aldri forstummer tonen fra himlen i sjelens glade pilgrimssang. Discovering Religion: Ep 19 - If America Became a Christian Nation (1 of 3)

The nineteenth installment of my original series, "Discovering Religion". In this episode I discuss what would happen if American were to TRULY subscribe to the Biblical laws passed down by Moses, from the Ten Commandments found in Exodus to the other moral and social laws found in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Interestingly, we can get a very good idea of how an American theocracy might appear, by comparing the Old Testament to Sharia law -- practiced by Islamic theocracies, such as the Islamic Republic of Iran. Part 1 explores the loss of our First Amendment rights, specifically the Freedoms of Religion, Speech, and Press, in addition to relating these loss of rights to the political and social climate in countries that follow Sharia Law, such as Iran and Pakistan. The episode finishes with a brief look at the Thirteenth Amendment and the scriptural justification for the practice of slavery. Note: Episode 19 completes the miniseries on "Religion in America" (episodes 17-19). In the next set of videos I will turn my focus to exploring the issues of "Morality" and then "Faith". Each of these topics will have 4-5 episodes. ----------------------------------------- ***All videos have been included in this production with the intent of FAIR USE, do not file a DMCA claim against this production, thank you! Daniel Auber - Le domino noir - "Je suis sauvee enfin" (Magdalena Kozena)

Aubers operas were tremendously successful in the nineteenth century, but have hardly been performed in the twentieth at all. "Le domino noir", one of the most successful, clocked up 1200 performances in Paris alone after its 1837 premiere, and was soon seen in London and in New Orleans. The story is a variation on the usual masked-ball romantic comedy: couple meet and fall in love without ever quite seeing each other, or finding out each others names. The twist to the plot is the fact that the heroine, Angele, is a novice at the convent of the Annonciades, about to take her final vows. Angele, the heroine of Auber's delightful opera, is similar to Georges from Boieldieu's opera and to Chapelou from Adam's "Le postillon du Lonjumeau" (whose aria I'm going to post soon) in the fact that she, being the heroine of the piece, gets not one big aria but three full arias in each of the operas three acts (just like her male colleagues in their respective operas; is this just me or must the star performer in a French opera have such a large amount of solo opportunities), one of which is presented in this upload. The narrative is as follows: Angele has finally managed to make her way to her Covent which she celebrates (just after she has entered the stage breathlessly) in a superb showpiece. The aria begins with a long narration for Angele, as she recounts all her troubles (almost as if to remind her audience of what has happened in the last hour of the opera), set to a simple ...

Aristotle Part 2

Aristotle is one of the most important founding figures in Western philosophy. He was the first to create a comprehensive system of Western philosophy, encompassing morality and aesthetics, logic and science, politics and metaphysics. Aristotle's views on the physical sciences profoundly shaped medieval scholarship, and their influence extended well into the Renaissance, although they were ultimately replaced by modern physics. In the biological sciences, some of his observations were only confirmed to be accurate in the nineteenth century. His works contain the earliest known formal study of logic, which were incorporated in the late nineteenth century into modern formal logic

Marty Robbins Sings 'My Mother Was A Lady.'

From Marty's Bear Family album 'Just Me And My Guitar' comes this charming nineteenth century ballad. The two 'drummers' at the start of the song are salesmen and not the musical type. The word 'drummer' was in common use in the nineteenth century but is no longer used. The song dates from 1896, but Marty probably first heard it in the 30's by Jimmie Rodgers.

Gloria!

A film by Hollis Frampton. Made in 1979. "In GLORIA! Frampton juxtaposes nineteenth-century concerns with contemporary forms through the interfacing of a work of early cinema with a videographic display of textual material. These two formal components (the film and the texts) in turn relate to a nineteenth-century figure, Frampton's maternal grandmother, and to a twentieth-century one, her grandson (filmmaker Frampton himself). In attempting to recapture their relationship, GLORIA! becomes a somewhat comic, often touching meditation on death, on memory and on the power of image, music and text to resurrect the past." - Bruce Jenkins hollisframpton.org.uk

Robert Pearsall - Lay a Garland {Rutter}

Robert Lucas Pearsall (March 14, 1795 - August 5, 1856) was an English composer. Lay a Garland The Cambridge Singers conducted by John Rutter Pearsall is principally remembered for his part-songs (amongst which is his arrangement of In Dulci Jubilo) and for his twenty-two compositions in madrigal style, notably, Lay a Garland, Great God of Love, and I saw lovely Phyllis. He was also a composer of church music for both Roman Catholic and Anglican use. His contribution to the re-establishment of plainsong, renaissance polyphony, and ancient church hymns in German-speaking countries marks him also as an unsung hero of the nineteenth century Cecilian Movement. Pearsall was a Romantic in the truest sense of the word, that is to say that he embodied everything that nineteenth century Romanticism was considered to be: his antiquarian interests, his rejection of the modern industrialising world around him and the pursuit of an older aesthetic in his composition allow him to sit comfortably beside other Romantics of his time such as the author Sir Walter Scott and the architect Augustus Welby Pugin. He was fascinated by history, heraldry, and genealogy. Also, sometimes forgotten, he was an accomplished translator, publishing his English translation of Friedrich von Schiller's play William Tell in 1829, and later in the 1830s, Goethe's Faust.

Mental Hospital: Conditions and Treatments for Patients - History in the 1950s (1953)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Psychiatric hospitals, also known as mental hospitals, are hospitals specializing in the treatment of serious mental disorders. Psychiatric hospitals vary widely in their size & grading. Some hospitals may specialise only in short-term or outpatient therapy for low-risk patients. Others may specialise in the temporary or permanent care of residents who, as a result of a psychological disorder, require routine assistance, treatment, or a specialised and controlled environment. Patients are often admitted on a voluntary basis, but involuntary commitment is practiced when an individual may pose a significant danger to themselves or others. Modern psychiatric hospitals evolved from, and eventually replaced the older lunatic asylums. The development of the modern psychiatric hospital is also the story of the rise of organised, institutional psychiatry. While there were earlier institutions that housed the 'insane' the arrival of institutionalisation as a solution to the problem of madness was very much an event of the nineteenth century. To illustrate this with one regional example, in England at the beginning of the nineteenth century there were, perhaps, a few thousand 'lunatics' housed in a variety of disparate institutions but by 1900 that figure had grown to about 100000. That this growth coincided with the growth of alienism, later known as psychiatry, as a medical specialism is not coincidental. The treatment of inmates in early ...

---Eighteenth Floor--- Lets keep it simple, blow boulders with bomb and reach the 3 corners of this floor from this order, south-east, north-west and north-east. Then open the door to the next floor. ---Nineteenth Floor--- Walk to the right and pick up the blue arrow orb and then walk all the way to the left. Walk around the corner while avoiding the mounted miniblin and set the orb on the square just to the right of the door. Now walk and step on the switch and the door will open. Use the boomerang and trace a path through the door and hit the orb to the left side of the door so that it is facing northward. Then use the bow and arrow to hit the blue orb and it will send an arrow out and hit the other orb, and finally hitting a wall switch at the top of the room, causing a bridge to form all the way at the southeast corner of the room. Get over there and run west, then grab the 2nd tear of light by breaking the boulders. Finally, head upstairs. ---Twentieth Floor--- Keeping it simple again. Break all boulders, grab the blue arrow orb and place it on the square, then shoot, but making sure it is facing to the right direction. Finally grab the 3rd tear of light and strike the Phantom [Wrecker] ---Nineteenth Floor Revisited--- Roll around until you get to the center of the room and then hit the switch with the bow (after changing its' direction) and it will hit a wall switch. This is mostly set up, essentially. Once you do up to the middle of the movie you can stop and go play now. Getting neat items early on is always a benefit. And yes, I chose to die rather than fight. It's alot faster and Dark Souls does not really punish you dying like Demon Souls did.

Dark Souls, How to break the game before the first boss part 3.

Here it is folks. If you follow the guide on my blog, you'll be able to get the Way of the Dragon achivement before you even fight Taurus Demon. Now all you have to do is go back the way you came and proceed to rape everything in your path. Including Havel the Rock. I wanted to share this because, well. I needed a PVP character ASAP and this is fastest way to get a decent build. Hell, once this is complete you can just hang around outside the boss arenas and help people out. From this, you can go take out the Gargoyles. Then Abandon the Clan using the Bishop guy. Now that you also have a divine weapon, you can head down to the Catacombs and become a GraveLord. Enjoy folks.

SOFIA (Bulgaria)

Sofia, the 'wise woman', has since 1879 been the capital of the new Bulgaria and is a city whose roots date back to the fifth century BC Once Thracians settled in the city followed by Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans. In the fourteenth century the city was named after its patron saint, the Goddess of Wisdom. Today's Sofia originated at the end of the nineteenth century. At that time the city's appearance changed from one of Oriental, to European, when Neo-classical buildings and tall civic houses replaced the low-built Ottoman constructions as well as Communist building megalomania! Sofia is a popular city and knows how to captivate its visitors. Its historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula of the twentieth century, the Aleksand-Nevski Cathedral, a huge structure that dominates the highest point of the city. At the entrance to the president's palace, the changing of the guards ceremony is a popular attraction. Dressed in red-white parade uniforms with lace jackets and feathered hats that date back to the nineteenth century, the soldiers goose-step a pre-determined route. The transformation of Sofia into a lively, cosmopolitan capital has succeeded well with history and tradition still very much in evidence. Young, modern and exciting with all the flair of the mystical Balkans!

Franz Schubert - Introduction and Variations for Flute and Piano in E minor, D 802 "Trockne Blumen"

Daniele Ruggieri: Flute Aldo Orvieto: Piano Franz Schubert finished working on his song cycle "Die schöne Müllerin" in November 1823. Two months later, in January 1824, he set about recasting the melody of the cycle's 18th song, "Trockne Blumen" (Faded Flowers), into a set of variations for flute and piano. This Introduction and Variations on "Trockne Blumen" in E minor, D. 802 apparently grew only from Schubert's own notion to further explore his song's melody and not from any special practical impetus; the work may, however, have been composed with Schubert's flutist friend Ferdinand Bogner, a professor at the Vienna Conservatory, in mind. As is commonly true of his works, it remained unpublished, and possibly unperformed, during Schubert's lifetime. In 1850, the Introduction and Variations on "Trockne Blumen" were published for the first time as Op. 160, and were immediately and fervently accepted into the repertoire by a brotherhood of flutists who, during the nineteenth century, were given precious little new music. Schubert prefaces his theme and seven variations with a substantial introduction (Andante), during which vague rhythmic outlines of the coming theme can occasionally be heard to emerge from the seemingly improvisational texture. The theme itself is little changed from the actual song, however there is a new tempo indication (Andantino as opposed to the Ziemlich langsam of the Lied); Schubert follows his usual practice of employing German indications in ...

'The answer to the Kennedy assassination is with the Federal Reserve Bank. Don't underestimate that. It's wrong to blame it on (CIA official James) Angleton and the CIA per se only. This is only one finger of the same hand. The people who supply the money are above the CIA.' - wife of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, told to author AJ Weberman I am one of those who do not believe the national debt is a national blessing... it is calculated to raise around the administration a moneyed aristocracy dangerous to the liberties of the country . Andrew Jackson, Letter to LH Coleman of Warrenton, NC, 29 April 1824 Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it. Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom (1913), Doubleday "The Rothschilds introduced the rule of money into European politics. The Rothschilds were the servants of money who undertook the reconstruction of the world as an image of money and its functions. Money and the employment of wealth have become the law of European life; we no longer have nations, but economic provinces." (New York Times, Professor Wilheim, a German historian, July 8, 1937). A Crisis Of Consciousness (Terence McKenna) [FULL]

alchemicalarchives.blogspot.com Our present global crisis is more profound than any previous historical crises; hence our solutions must be equally drastic. I propose that we should adopt the plant as the organizational model for life in the twenty-first century, just as the computer seems to be the dominant mental/social model of the late twentieth century, and the steam engine was the guiding image of the nineteenth century. This means reaching back in time to models that were successful fifteen thousand to twenty thousand years ago. When this is done it becomes possible to see plants as food, shelter, clothing, and sources of education and religion. The process begins by declaring legitimate what we have denied for so long. Let us declare nature to be legitimate. All plants should be declared legal, and all animals for that matter. The notion of illegal plants and animals is obnoxious and ridiculous. Re-establishing channels of direct communication with the planetary Other, the mind behind nature, through the use of hallucinogenic plants is the best hope for dissolving the steep walls of cultural inflexibility that appear to be channeling us toward true ruin. We need a new set of lenses to see our way into the world. When the medieval world shifted its worldview, secularized European society sought salvation in the revivifying of classical Greek and Roman approaches to law, philosophy, aesthetics, city planning, and agriculture. Our dilemma will cast us further back ...

The Who- I've Known No War

"I've Known No War" is a song by the British rock band The Who, originally released on their 1982 album It's Hard. Written by guitarist Pete Townshend, the song reflects personal thoughts on the Cold War, and contains lyrics referring to the end of World War II. ? Galbraith took his pen to break down the men of the German army defeated On the nineteenth day of a spring day in May, Albert Speer was deleted And as soon as the battle was over, I was born in victorious clover And I've never been shot at or gassed never tortured or stabbed And I'm sure - I'll never know war ? Townshend felt confident about the song, even stating that he felt it was one of the best tracks The Who ever did.[1] Parke Puterbaugh of Rolling Stone magazine stated that the song was the key to the album, as he wrote in his 1982 review of It's Hard: "'I've Known No War,' [is] a song that could become an anthem to our generation much the way 'Won't Get Fooled Again' did a decade ago. 'I've Known No War' is one conscientious objector's statement of defiant opposition, tempered by the realities of the present day. To wit, that a nuclear war, despite our best pacifistic inclinations, is in the hands of a few men who will simply decide to push a button, and that the ensuing annihilation will be sudden, certain and eternal I've known no war And if I ever do I won't know for sure Who'll be fighting whom For the soldiers lonely tomb Now opens as soon as the referee's gun starts to roar I'll know no war ...

ARABIC/ISLAMIC CALLIGRAPHY ART IN TURKEY (OTTOMAN STYLE) (الدولة العثمانية)

Ottoman History Picture Archives (Osmanlı Tarihi Resim Arşivleri) www.facebook.com You can download and upload this video to your channel: hotfile.com THE ART OF CALLIGRAPHY IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE Calligraphy (hüsn-i hat) is a characteristic Islamic art-form, practised in the Arabic writing method developed from the Nabatean script. The fact that such a strong aesthetic language developed from a rather simple way of recording language surely has to be regarded as one of the miracles of Islam. As a result of the proliferation of the Islamic faith, the art of calligraphy was practised by a great many different peoples. The dynastic rulers of the Islamic world (Umayyad, Abbasid, Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluk, Seljuk, Ilkhanid, Timurid, Safevid, Akkoyunlu, ...), with their capitals as cultural centers in such diverse locations as Damascus, Baghdad, Cordoba, Cairo, Konya, Samarkand, Herat, and Tabriz, were always attracted by the art of calligraphy and accordingly patronised its practitioners. During the Ottoman period, calligraphy reached the zenith of its aesthetic power over an extensive period of time, and as a result calligraphy in the Ottoman dominions, which became known as "Turkish Calligraphy," established its own distinct character. The Ottomans practised calligraphy over a period of nearly five hundred years, attaining the highest level of expertise in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
