Nissan LEAF Test Drive and Review

Nissan LEAF Test Drive & Review- Green Energy News had the recent pleasure of test driving the brand spankin' new, highly-anticipated zero emission vehicle (ZEV) developed by Nissan, dubbed LEAF - or Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable, Family Car. Mark Perry, Director of Product Planning for Nissan North America, talks about the vision behind the Nissan LEAF and touches on it's eco-friendly features, cost/price, battery/charging information, and availability. The LEAF we drove is a pre-production prototype... basically the production model. This is NOT a "mule" or the VERSA "shell" which was making a tour across the US earlier this year. Design: Smooth lines, aerodynamic, and pleasing to look at. The LEAF might not be the most eye-catching car on the road, but we feel like it will appeal to most consumers in the compact car market. We saw it as a cross between a luxury crossover SUV (think Lexus RX 350), a Toyota Matrix, and the Nissan Versa. Performance- The 107 HP (80kw) motor puts out 206 lb-ft of torque which is readily available at 0 MPH! We were more than surprised with the amount of pep the LEAF showed off the line. At moderate speeds (approx 45 MPH) the LEAF had NO problems passing other vehicles with minimal efforts. Towards the end of the video, you can see the LEAF accelerating into a right turn, reaching speeds of almost 50 MPH from a creeping start with ease. The LEAF is responsive and fun to drive. Is it a sportscar... NO! Is it more fun to drive ...

2011 Nissan LEAF Electric Car Test Drive & Car Review by RoadflyTV

We finally get some time in the all new, 100% electric car the Nissan LEAF. The first widely available electric car is capable of driving about 110 miles on a charge. The electric motor produces 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The LEAF can be plugged into any conventional home electric outlet to be recharged. The LEAF handles a lot better than expected and it's acceleration was pretty impressive too. It actually felt quick off the line due to the availability of all 207 lb-ft of torque the second your foot hits the accelerator. Rumors are that the 0-60 MPH time is about 10 or 11 seconds. We didn't have time to do an official test unfortunately but it felt a lot quicker than that to us. As far as gas mileage goes. The EPA has rated the LEAF at 99 MPG. Wow!!! Nissan Leaf provides the final link in self-sufficiency for Bruichladdich whisky distillery

Nissan's 100% electric LEAF has provided the crucial last element in an innovative business owner's attempts to become entirely self-sufficient on the remote Hebridean island of Islay. The award-winning 130-year old Bruichladdich whisky distillery has established a pioneering Biowayste system allowing it to generate its own electricity by using the waste products from the distilling process. Business owner, Mark Reynier, started using the system, in which electricity is generated by biogas formed by a process called anaerobic digestion, earlier this year. Now he has also taken delivery of a Nissan LEAF, the reigning European and World Car of the Year, meaning that he can also drive completely carbon-free, charging his car using the electricity produced by the distillery. To celebrate the role played by the LEAF, Nissan and Bruichladdich have produced a limited run of bespoke, LEAF-labelled organic whisky. Mr Reynier has already been hugely impressed by the car: "The LEAF is fantastic to drive. It was frustrating to be making such strides in being self-sufficient, when my car still needed the most expensive diesel in the UK from the mainland. The arrival of the LEAF has allowed me to be as truly self-sufficient as possible."

► 2012 Nissan Leaf CRASH TEST

► www.youcar.tv The rating of the Nissan Leaf has been upgraded from 2011 to 2012. The car is unchanged and test results have been carried over from the previous year. The 2012 rating reflects the Leaf's performance of against Euro NCAP's latest requirements. Adult occupant The passenger compartment of the Leaf remained stable in the frontal impact. The stiff centre console and structures surrounding the steering column posed a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes to the dummies used in the test, or to those sat in different positions. In the side barrier test the Leaf scored maximum points with all body regions being well protected. In the more severe side pole impact, protection of most body regions was good and that of the chest was adequate. The Leaf was tested with a live battery. No electrical hazards or problems were encountered during any of the impact tests. The protection provided by the front seats and head restraints against whiplash injuries in a rear impact was rated as marginal. Child occupant Based on dummy readings, the Leaf was awarded maximum points for its protection of the 18 month infant in the dynamic tests. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. However, information provided to the driver about the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear. Permanently attached labels clearly warn of the dangers of using a rearward facing child seat ...

NISSAN LEAF ELECTRIC CAR

The Nissan Leaf (also formatted "LEAF" as a backronym for Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family car[3]) is a five-door hatchback electric car manufactured by Nissan and introduced in Japan and the United States in December 2010.[4][5][6] The US Environmental Protection Agency official range is 117 kilometres (73 mi), with an energy consumption of 765 kilojoules per kilometre (34 kW·h/100 mi) and rated the Leaf's combined fuel economy at 99 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (2.4 L/100 km).[7][8] The Leaf has a range of 175 km (109 mi) on the New European Driving Cycle.[9] Deliveries to individual customers began in the United States and Japan in December 2010, in Ireland in February 2011 and the UK in March 2011. As of November 2011 the Leaf deliveries had also taken place in Canada, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Switzerland.[10][11][12] Sales in Belgium are scheduled for late 2011, Denmark in early 2012, and global market availability is expected for 2012.[13] According to Nissan initial availability is limited in quantities and to select markets and only for customers who made online reservations. The availability was increased throughout 2011; US production will begin in 2012, and UK production is planned for 2013.[14][15][16] Worldwide cumulative sales reached over 20000 units in November 2011.[17] The retail price of the 2011 Leaf in Japan starts at ¥3.76 million and US$32780 in the United States. Full review: www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/nissan/leaf/hatchback/review Could this be the car of the future? The Nissan Leaf is the first mainstream production car designed to be powered purely by electricity. It emits zero CO2 and can be charged at home from a standard socket. The car's exterior is shaped to cheat wind resistance, hence the elongated tail. The lithium-ion battery pack is stored in the floor of the car, which means lots of space inside.

The fastest way to charge your Nissan Leaf without power supply

When you talk about electric cars the first thing people are concerned with is the range and how to get the batteries charged when you run out of power. So Leafplan set out to find a new way of charging a Nissan Leaf: by towing it behind another car and braking to charge the car. The Nissan Leaf has brake regeneration which means it charges itself during braking. So in theory you can charge the car by braking while you are being towed. However, the Nissan Leaf manual states you 'shouldn't tow an electric car with four wheels on the ground'. The Nissan dealer was a bit sketchy about why that was so we set out to prove the theory and made this video. As you can see in the video it really does work! However there are some small differences. Because the car is being towed the range computer thinks it's driving ultra economical and calculates the range according to this. So the range the computer calculates isn't the actual range which you will have when you drive the car, it's about 33% less. However, the car does charge itself while braking, and actually does a very good job. It's about as fast as a fast charger charging the car. You have to be careful though not to overdo the braking; charging only happens in the first phase of braking if you overdo the Leaf will start to use the regular brakes resulting in very smelly brake pads ;-) Leafplan is a project in The Netherlands set out to find the practical use of the electric car. From how to get a charge point at your house ...

2012 Nissan LEAF Test Drive & Electric Car Review

www.autobytel.com The 2012 Nissan LEAF if the world's first mass produced battery electric vehicle. You can get almost 100 miles of range from a single charge. Nissan really pushed the edge of design with the LEAF. The car has been thoroughly tested in a wind tunnel to reduce drag and the results are an ultra low and efficient 0.29 drag coefficient rating. The 2012 Nissan LEAF is a great driving electric car. The LEAF has a base price of $35200 but there are offer large rebates available from the Government that will help to offset the high price tag a bit. The battery pack on the 2012 Nissan LEAF weights about 600 pounds and is located towards the rear of the car. This gives the car a nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The result is a better driving and handling electric car. The LEAF not only runs on electricity which saves you money, it also is a zero emissions vehicle meaning there are no harmful tail pipe emissions that are normally associated with a gasoline engine. Heck there is even an 8-year 100000 mile warranty on the batteries. The 2012 Nissan LEAF electric car is the future of the automobile in America.
