Virgin Islands Protest & Norma Pickard-Samuel 11-9-11

As a photographer and resident of St. Thomas USVI, on Nov 9, 2011 I was participating in the WAPA protest on St. Thomas. I was shooting some photos of the peaceful protest when a woman walked up and started verbally attacking the protestors. I switched to shooting video as I recognized that it was former VI Senator Norma Pickard-Samuel (yes Norma I got it right). Unfortunately I missed her opening rant of racist remarks here aimed at the white protestors but caught her at her best. Norma do you kiss your Grandmother with that mouth. Norma you and your ignorance are why things are the way they are in Virgin Islands. Stop being part of the problem Norma because you're just an embarrassment to the people of the Virgin Islands. Police weaponry brought to University of California at Berkeley protest.

A few brief questions for a police officer in riot gear. Notice someone's rude and unfortunately timed remark towards the police officer. Many of the protesters are non students, and the commenter did not appear to be a student. On closer inspection the gun seemed to carry .45 caliber or so sized rounds which had a plastic or painted coating on the exterior. They were in a round drum somewhat resembling an antique style "tommy gun". A bystander who was present mentioned that earlier the officer had stated that they were plastic bullets. To my knowledge the gun was not fired on November 9, 2011. If anyone has any further information on the type of injuries that this weapon might cause please post this in the comments.

Electricians protest at Gratte Brothers construction site at Cannon Street - 2 Nov 2011.mp4

Electricians picket construction sites and power stations by Simon Basketter The battle to stop building bosses tearing up contracts and slashing wages saw pickets in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottinghamshire this morning, Wednesday. Workers picketed the contractor Spie Matthew Hall at the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottinghamshire. No electrician is working on site today. The demonstration caused lengthy traffic tailbacks on the A453 that runs past the site. In Manchester, workers blocked the entrance at the Carrington paper mill site for the second week in a row. Electricians are escalating their protests across Britain -- despite intimidation. Some workers have been told they will be sacked if they protest. Socialist Worker has also been told of a number of cases of workers being moved from sites to try and disrupt workers' organisation. Up to 300 workers and supporters protested at the Gratte Brothers construction site at Cannon Street in London. The company is one of seven that have launched an onslaught on electricians' terms and conditions. They plan to rip up workers' national agreement and cut wages by a third. The other contractors are Bailey Building Services, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, Tommy Clarke, Crown House Technologies, SES and Spie Matthew Hall. One electrician told Socialist Worker, "They are pushing through new contracts that will push wages down by up to 35 percent. They want to deskill the trade. I won't be able to work as ...

Massive anti-govt. protests held in Italy [Nov 27, 2010]

Massive anti-govt. protests held in Italy More than 100000 demonstrators joined members of Italy's largest labor union to protest against the austerity plans proposed by the government. The Saturday demonstrations against Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's center-right government were organized by the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL). Protesters, including union members and students, carried flags and red balloons and shouted anti-government slogans. They were angry with job losses across the country and a weak economy. The march's official slogan read, "The future belongs to the young and employment -- no rights, no democracy," AFP reported. CGIL Secretary Susanna Camusso said, "This country has no future if the government does not start doing [sic] different policies for labor and improves their (students') chances of studying and of finding a job afterwards." "After two years of endless crisis and rising unemployment, everyone can see that this country lacks a plan for the future," she added. The demonstration follows trade unions' strikes and student protests within the past few days. University students in several cities have recently staged protests against job and funding cuts in the education system. They have also occupied symbolic Italian monuments such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Rome's Colosseum. The reforms they are protesting against would bring cuts of EUR 9 billion (USD 12 billion) and 130000 job losses to the education system, and will ...

People in NYC are voluntarily getting arrested by engaging in non-violent civil disobedience to stop the illegal NYPD "Stop and Frisk" policy. The Stop Mass Incarceration Network, an organization led by revolutionary communist Carl Dix, has been organizing protests and rallies against the New York City Police Department over its "Stop-and-Frisk" policy, citing that it unfairly targets blacks and Latinos. I wasn't planning on uploading this, I assumed the BBC would mention it along with their coverage of all the other protests, they didn't. These protesters are not those who were kettled outside the treasury building, we weren't allowed in for that, after some kids had started fires and thrown some sticks n junk at the police lines separating us from the main protest they began to move forward. This happened about an hour and a half after police started pushing us back, they had already deployed the cavalry 3 times, although those instances were less aggressive than this one. I have decided to follow the anticuts campaign and make a documentary out of all the footage I gather, so this will eventually be in there.

Thousands of students staged sit-ins, occupations and walkouts at universities and colleges, with pupils also staging protests at schools. The protest was organised by the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC). It says at least one in 10 students is planning to take part. Protesters march on London against student fees - November 9th 2011

From: Euronews Protesters march on London against student fees 09/11 20:14 CET Thousands of protesters marched through central London on Wednesday in protest at the government's decision to treble university tuition fees. The demonstrators oppose what they say is the "privatisation" of higher education by alllowing universities to charge students £9000 a year (€10500). London's Metropolitan Police deployed 4000 officers to keep order, whilst an estimated 2000 people took part in the march. At least 20 arrests were made when some of the protesters tried to erect tents in Trafalgar Square. The hike takes effect in England and Wales next year, although students will pay nothing up front. It forms part of the goverment's austerity drive to cut a budget deficit that peaked at 11 percent of GDP. Rather than fleeing a sinking ship, apparently The Morgue is attempting to widen their PM suppression influence into Europe.. lin The Global Financial Markets Association announced that Blythe Masters, head of global commodities at JP Morgan Chase, took over as chair from Michele Faissola, global head of rates and commodities at Deutsche Bank, on 1 February 2012. Reports indicate that JP Morgan has hired Colin Fenton as head of Global Commodities Strategy at JP Morgan, who is- wouldn't you know it- a Goldman Sachs Alum. That's right, the same Colin Fenton of JPM who called for $2500 gold by the end of 2011- in August, at almost the exact top near $1900.
