The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" written by ETA Hoffman. Although what is seen on the stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same; The story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads. In 1891, the choreographer Marius Petipa commissioned legendary Russian composer Tchaikovsky to write the music for the Nutcracker Ballet. In 1892, the first showing of the Nutcracker took place at the Mariinsky Theatre of Russia, home of the Kirov Ballet. The Nutcracker made its way to Western Europe in the 1930's and to America by 1940......... PS This is a wonderful performance of the Kirov ballet , from St Petersburg, Russia

Sailor Moon AMV- The Nutcracker Ballet
Okay, so I performed in a Nutcracker production this year (2010) for the holidays, and I was able to connect this to Sailor Moon really well. What if Sailor Moon was the part of Clara, Tuxedo Mask was the Nutcracker Prince, and then all the scouts were different parts in the Land of Sweets? Well, that's what I did! I made short music videos trying my best to take each Sailor Scout and matching her with the Nutcracker song that fit her best. It was actually quite hard because there were so many characters and almost not enough songs! I think I matched them all up pretty well, except for maybe Saturn and Pluto. I thought that since Mercury got snow (she's the planet closest to the Sun) then Pluto should get flowers. (she's the farthest from the Sun) Saturn was a tricky one, but I think her song isn't that bad. So, how do you think i did with the songs? Good, bad, ok? I went on my winter vacation this year in Seattle to give a friend of mine a hand on the Nutcracker. I figured I'd run some cables, help with props, maybe do a bit of camera and lighting work. During the load in, one of the board members looked at me and said "Bill ... you're tall, right? How would you feel about being in the show?" Never being one to turn down an opportunity to make an ass out of myself in a public forum, I accepted. Care to guess which one is me?
