Altered Oceans-Acrid Seas.mov

Ocean acidification. What is it? Almost no one has even heard of it! Our unabated levels of carbon dioxide emissions are increasing the ocean's acidity, and decreasing the ocean's supply of dissolved carbonate. It will affect practically everything in the ocean that grows a calcium carbonate shell or skeleton. It has only been since the year 2000 that marine biologist and chemical oceanographers have taken a closer look at what will most likely become the most complex, and compelling environmental threat that our humans species will ever face. Research on tropical reef corals indicates that by 2050, our emissions will have eroded the ocean's supply of dissolved carbonate by 30 percent. This will make tropical coral reefs more susceptible to borrowing sponges and wave damage from hurricanes. Clams, scallops and crabs will all most likely be growing thinner shells. The ocean's phyto-plankton that produce nearly half of the planet's supply of oxygen will most likely be impaired in growing their microscopic calcareous shells . All the research so far seems to indicate that our children and grand children could very well witness profound changes in our oceans unseen before in all of human history.

Whale Wars Sea Shepherd - Protecting oceans around the world.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 Sea Shepherd Will Oppose Japanese Whalers Alone Greenpeace Surrenders To The Japanese Whaling Fleet Greenpeace has officially announced in a media release from Tokyo that they will not be sending a ship to the Southern Oceans to oppose whaling by the Japanese Whaling fleet. This means that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be alone in its high seas opposition to illegal Japanese whaling operations when the whaling season opens in a month. "As a Greenpeace co-founder, I am deeply offended that Greenpeace has been raising millions of dollars in the name of defending whales all year and now two weeks before the Japanese whaling fleet is scheduled to depart, they announce they will not be going," said Captain Paul Watson, President and Founder of Sea Shepherd. "In my opinion they collected funds under false pretenses and now they have abandoned the whales. Shame on them." The Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin is scheduled to depart from Australia at the end of November on Sea Shepherd's fifth voyage to obstruct and intervene against outlaw pirate whaling activities in the Antarctic Southern Oceans Whale Sanctuary. Due to Sea Shepherd's interventions in its past campaigns, hundreds of whales have been saved in Antarctica. Sea Shepherd's Executive Director Kim McCoy said, "Sea Shepherd will never retreat and we will never surrender until the outlaw whalers are driven out of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary for good." Brave New Ocean - a lecture on our changing sea-life by marine ecologist Jeremy Jackson

In September 2009, Professor Jeremy Jackson from the prestigious Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California, delivered his Brave New Ocean lecture at an event hosted by the Ulster Wildlife Trust. Jacksons talk has profound messages about what is happening in the worlds oceans and seas as a consequence of human impacts such as pollution, habitat loss, over-fishing and climate change. He describes how once productive and complex marine ecosystems are being pushed beyond the brink, into simplistic ecosystems dominated by jellyfish and microbes - a transformation he has dubbed as the rise of slime. Jackson examines crucial questions about this Brave New Ocean, including what can be done to halt and reverse these current trends. The main lecture is 50 minutes long plus a 30 minute Q&A session at the end. Eritrea: Oceans Red Sea - Exploring the secrets (Part 2 of 4)

The Red Sea is one of the youngest oceans in the world and one of the warmest. The northern region, with its diverse array of marine life, is one of the most visited dive locations on earth while the southern end remains virtually unexplored. It's a global hotspot for marine biology and an important trade route throughout human history, linking the trade goods of India and the Far East with the markets of Egypt and Europe. The team explores the remote and unexplored Southern Red Sea, teeming with marine life and home to some of the warmest waters on the planet. With unique access, expedition leader Paul Rose, environmentalist Philippe Cousteau Jr, maritime archaeologist Dr Lucy Blue and marine biologist and oceanographer Tooni Mahto investigate whether the vibrant coral here can help other coral reefs threatened by global warming. They dive in one of only two places on Earth you can see a new ocean being born; they explore the wreck of an Italian ship, to find her top secret, deadly cargo; and they uncover archaeological evidence of one of early man's first encounters with the sea. And Philippe Cousteau Jr has an emotional journey to the remains of an ambitious underwater village established by his grandfather, Jacques Cousteau, in 1963 to discover whether humans could live beneath the waves.

Overfishing and more: SEA THE TRUTH -- In 2048 The Oceans Will Be Empty! (16:9, full-length, HiQ)

www.SeaTheTruth.nl or www.GlobeTransformer.org (NOTE for the YouTube-Team we have uploaded this movie with the permission of the Nicolaas G. Pierson Foundation) BACKGROUND Sea the Truth is based on numerous scientific publications that examine the problems of seas and oceans. Below follows an overview of the themes addressed in the film and a brief explanation. DEEP TROUBLE: WHALE MORTALITY CAUSED BY OVERFISHING According to a report of the New Zealand news channel 3News sea mammals, among which whales, are dying of malnutrition. The makers claim that this is caused by overfishing. Watch the report here: www.3news.co.nz FISHING POLICY AND QUOTA Fishing policy around the world is destructive. Recommendations from scientists on quotas are ignored by policy makers, wealthy countries plunder the fishing territories of poor countries and bottom trawlers sow destruction all over the seafloor with their dragnets. In Europe, 88% of fish stocks have been overharvested, such as the blue fin tuna which sadly is threatened with extinction. EFFECTS OF FISHING ON MARINE ECOSYSTEMS In addition to the effect on the fish stocks, fishing also affects all other organisms in the same habitat or ecosystem. Whether the fish being harvested are predatory or prey, the balance of the ecosystem is disrupted and this can have serious consequences. The degree of disruption strongly depends on the fishing method employed. BYCATCH The term bycatch has come to be used to refer to fish caught ...

LOST -- UN Law of the Seas Treaty -- UN takeover of ocean resources.

Obama sneaks Law of the Sea Treaty: www.augustreview.com The globalists have been trying to impose this treaty on the world for decades. The Obama administration claimed, from the beginning, that they would be the ones that would manage to pass it through Congress, for the US. But, see, in the US, unlike Europe (where the EU has already ratified this absurdity), there has always been a massive resistance to this treaty, since it basically gives away all your rights to your own ocean resources to an offshore corporate entity (the UN), so that entity can sell the exploration rights off to a select group of multinational corporations. That wouldn't please any people that would be against its own exploitation, like is (fortunately) still the case with the American people. And then comes along a massive oil spill, the very unexplained story starred by BP. And now it seems the US government is indeed getting ready to talk about this treaty again. Oil spills are useful, aren't they? ----------------------------- FromAlex Jones' documentary film ENDGAME (1.5 extras). Ocean's Fury Unleashed

One of the most recognizable lighthouse photographs in the world. Perceived optical illusion at end. When first seeing the famous and historical photograph, most people assume that the lighthouse keeper must have been killed. In fact, the keepers had been living in fear of death during the 1989 storm and at one point had taken refuge in the lantern room of the tower. Waves the night before had smashed through the lower windows of the tower, causing the structure to flood, washing away everything in its path including the television, table, chairs, coffee maker and even the refrigerator. The keepers in fact were waiting to be rescued by helicopter. Assuming the rescue chopper had arrived, one of the keepers opened the lower door of the structure and looked up at the helicopter but realized that it was not the rescue chopper. He also realized that a giant wave was about to engulf the tower. He immediately turned about and pulled the door closed behind him. Had he not done so at that second, he surely would have been killed.

Greenpeace-Save the Oceans

On the surface, the ocean may look calm and serene. But, beneath the surface is a different story. All around the world, our oceans are in crisis. Whale slaughter continues to put endangered species at risk and pollution from land-based sources is turning the oceans into a dumping ground. Throughout the seven seas, there are many industries committing crimes against nature, but no one is holding them accountable. Even the deep and remote areas that once served as refuges from fishing are no longer safe havens; today the fish have no place to hide. Just as threatening to the ecosystem is the impact that depleted fisheries has on other fish, marine mammals, and sea birds. Local human communities too face dire consequences. All that rely on other robust fisheries for food must compete in depleted fisheries for sustenance and their way of life. The competition is huge factory ships employing massive trawling nets. It's time to shine a spotlight on their dirty little secrets, and expose the world to the destruction of an underwater realm few would otherwise see.

Save our seas: fix the Common Fisheries Policy

Our seas are in peril: more than 70% of Europe's fish stocks are overfished. Species are rapidly nearing extinction. Yet the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) allows European fleets to take 2 to 3 times more from our threatened oceans than what is considered sustainable. But, it doesn't have to be this way. Call for a strong reform of the CFP now, to ensure we have fish to eat in the future - and a fishing industry left to catch them. www.greenpeace.org.uk

LIFE OF THE OCEAN - Enya

Life of the Ocean a trip completely surrounded by ocean sea creatures along with beautiful music by Enya. Discover the vastness of the ocean as you go on this jouney within this video. "Though generally described as several 'separate' oceans, these waters comprise one global, interconnected body of salt water often referred to as the World Ocean or global ocean.[2][3] This concept of a continuous body of water with relatively free interchange among its parts is of fundamental importance to oceanography.[4] The major oceanic divisions are defined in part by the continents, various archipelagos, and other criteria. These divisions are (in descending order of size): Pacific Ocean, which separates Asia and Australia from the Americas Atlantic Ocean, which separates the Americas from Eurasia and Africa Indian Ocean, which washes upon southern Asia and separates Africa and Australia Southern Ocean, sometimes subsumed as the southern portions of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, which encircles Antarctica and covers much of the Antarctic Arctic Ocean, sometimes considered a sea of the Atlantic, which covers much of the Arctic and washes upon northern North America and Eurasia The Pacific and Atlantic may be further subdivided by the equator into northern and southern portions. Smaller regions of the oceans are called seas, gulfs, bays, straits and other names. Geologically, an ocean is an area of oceanic crust covered by water. Operation Musashi - Sea Shepherd is Coming...

worldagainstwhaling.org While in Santiago, Chile for the 60th Meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC), Sea Shepherd Conservation Society officially announced plans to return to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to once again oppose illegal Japanese whaling activities. This year's campaign, Sea Shepherd's fifth campaign to Antarctic waters, will be called Operation Musashi in reference to the legendary Japanese strategist, Miyamoto Musashi. Musashi's Book of Five Rings included the approach of the Twofold Way of Pen and Sword. Sea Shepherd's goal is to send two fast ships to the Southern Ocean with the purpose of continuously keeping the Japanese whaling fleet on the run. "We intend to sink the Japanese fleet economically," said Captain Watson. "Our strategy is to prevent whales from being killed, to force Japan to spend money on fuel without killing whales. My crew and I will not watch whales die, we will not bear witness to the cruel slaughter of a single whale without risking our lives to prevent its unlawful and cruel murder. If the members of the IWC refuse to act to save the whales, then it is up to us to take this fight onto the high seas where we will prevail in the next season even more successfully than we prevailed in the last season." The name Operation Musashi was chosen to reflect Sea Shepherd's approach of aggressive, yet nonviolent, confrontation and the increasing global awareness of Japan's ongoing illegal whaling activities; thus the ...
