Tony Dron in-car v Anthony Reid at 2008 Goodwood Revival

Breathless St Mary's trophy 2008 battle between Tony Dron (Ford Zodiac) and Anthony Reid (Jaguar Mk1), from the point of view of Dron. Shame it only lastest a few laps, but this is two seasoned racers dicing for the lead without ever looking like they were going to make contact. Exciting stuff! Hopefully Octane Magazine don't mind me sharing this. Here's the original: www.octane-magazine.com For an account of the race go here: www.classicdriver.com

Presenting Lotus Esprit S1, Chassis 134H

Introducing a very special Esprit S1 to the collector community. The original of this car put a few thousand miles on it in the first few years of its life, and then instead of selling it like he normally would, grew attached to it and held on to it. Being a real estate developer, he had no shortage of climate controlled storage for the car. Away it went, under a cover, for years at a time. In June of 2008, with a long-expired registration, the car had only seen the light of day a few times in almost 30 years (only to be moved between storage facilities two times). The sentimental original owner was finally ready to let it go . . . to a good home. With only 4009 original miles and barely a wrench ever turned on this car, it is just as it left the Lotus factory in 1977. The original tires are fresh and soft. The orange "gelcoat" finish is as close to flawless as exists. The brown marcasite velvet interior has no fading. The fluorescent red seatbelt decals and gauge markings are saturated with their full color. The trim is unmarked. The car looks, feels, and smells as new. On top of all that, it is a very rare color in left-hand-drive; only four federal cars in the orange "gelcoat" finish, plus two "J" models for Europe (and another two orange federal cars in conventional paint finish). This is the best-preserved Esprit S1 I have ever seen. UPDATE: 134H now lives happily as part of a great collection of cars. It has been kept totally original, but received a thorough ...

Koenigsegg CCXR from WINDING ROAD Magazine

The Koenigsegg CCXR is an "environmentally-friendly" version of the CCX, powered by a modified twin-supercharged V8 engine from the CCX, converted to use E85 or E100 ethanol fuel as well as standard 98 octane petrol.[1] When run on regular petrol, the CCXR develops 806 bhp (601 kW), but when the car is run on E85 Biofuel, the CCXR develops 1018 bhp (759 kW). Weight-to-power ratio is 2.76 lb/hp. Torque is 782 ft·lb (1060 N·m). The CCXR can achieve 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds. Christian von Koenigsegg is quoted as saying, "Our engineers couldn't quite believe the figures when we tested the car".[2] The increased power is a result of the cooling properties of ethanol in the engine's combustion chambers allowing for a higher pressure in the cylinder and the biofuel having a higher octane rating of 113 RON compared to 95 RON for gasoline in North America and 100 RON for gasoline in Europe, although the CCXR burns slightly more fuel than the CCX with about 15 mpg (17L/100 km).[1][3] The only changes to the engine are modified fuel injectors, upgraded fuel lines and piston rings and a higher boost setting on the superchargers. Koenigsegg say that it will go 259 mph, making it the fastest production car in the world. [2] In March 2009 the CCXR was chosen by Forbes to be one of the ten most beautiful cars in history.[4]

Kazama Tribute...

Kazama was first introduced to drifting at age 17 when he watched Gengo-San, who later became his spotter and mentor, drifting on a touge. As soon as he got his driving licence he began drifting in his Toyota Corolla Levin AE86 with the proceeds of his job in a filling station. He later escaped death when his car slid down underneath a crash barrier and fell 30ft down the mountain. He would later make a name for himself in drifting contests, driving a Nissan Silvia S14 and became one of the first drivers to use a S15 for drifting and was heavily in debt until his patience was paid off when he was sponsored by Kei Office, a tuning company who was owned by Keiichi Tsuchiya who he later worked for as a mechanic. From when he first started in D1GP series at the end of 2000, he had moderate success, but when he teamed up with Gengo, things would started to pay off when he took up a runner up spot at round 6 in 2003 and then went on to win his first event at round 1 in Irwindale and took up four other wins and a title in 2005 only beating Masao Suenaga by 1 pts He is known as Waku Waku Kun or Rodeo Clown due to his reputation as a clown within the series and him being well known for his Rodeo Drift, a form of doughnutting by sitting on the driver's door of the car which he first practised at the Big-X events, then later at D1GP pre-tsuiou rounds warm ups in 2004 when he changed the side windows of his car to make it possible to perform the trick. High-Octane Dreams

Car fanatics: Try not to drool as you gawk at all the chrome, metallic-flake paint and shiny rubber on display at Supernationals By Dan Mayfield Journal Staff Writer In any conversation with a car guy these days, you have to talk about hybrids. Sure, the cars that run on electricity and gasoline can be cool. But the Supernationals car show is all about the original hybrids, the cars that burn both gas and rubber. About 200 custom, hot-rod and one-off cars and trucks will be part of this weekends Supernationals. These high-powered hot rods are the things that teenage boys have drawn in the margins of their textbooks since the first V-8 engines rolled out of Detroit. This year, said Supernationals organizer Reggie Tibbits, the show will feature several cars and designers who have never been to Albuquerque. The big crowd favorite will likely be the Radical Flyer, a Radio Flyer wagon on so many steroids that even Mark McGwire couldnt deny it. But other cars at this years show are sure to attract a crowd as well. Local tattoo artist and custom-car enthusiast Brian Everette will bring his 1940 Mercury Slither to the show. Though its mostly a 1940, the car was built with parts from a 1939 Mercury Zephyr, a 1955 Buick grill and several others, painted to a gorgeous candy gold. Everette wanted a car that ran as good as it looked, and the car has a 350-horsepower Ford V-8 under the hood. All the work paid off, with the car winning awards at the West Coast Kustoms ...

This unassuming 1970 Plymouth Cuda is a magazine featured steel rocket that is just as comfortable commuting back and forth to work as it is making passes at the local drag strip. Restored by Mascar Autobody and Paint in Costa Mesa California, this killer '70 Cuda is a clean west coast car that retains all of its original body panels save for an AAR style fiberglass hood. Its factory straight body was completely covered in a great looking coat of Plum Crazy Purple basecoat/clearcoat and accented with flat black paint on its hood, header panel and horizontal side panels. Under the hood you'll find a 340 Race X block that has been bored and stroked to 427 cubic inches and features a nasty 13 to 1 compression ratio and roughly 750 horsepower! Inside the massive black hood scoop a huge Holley Dominator 4 barrel carburetor sends 110 octane racing fuel and cool air from a high performance K&N filter into a modified single plane Indy intake. At the sides of that intake, slick looking oval port Indy aluminum heads have been fitted with Ferrea valves, K-Motion valve springs, T&D rocker arms and welded Moroso aluminum valve covers. Inside the block a Mopar performance crankshaft pushes Eagle rods and CP pistons while a custom ground Comp cam pops Comp solid roller lifters and Smith Brothers pushrods.
