We built a complete house inside the agency's theater space using all IKEA products -- complete with welcome mat and mailbox stuffed with IKEA catalogs. From pushpin to portrait: Creatives at Ogilvy & Mather's Chicago office construct a unique homage to their founder, David Ogilvy. The Ogilvy and Mather Chicago office has long used pushpins and foam core boards to display new work, and now they've created a salute to their founder using the same materials. Concepted by art director Brian Thibodeau and writer Bill Wanek, the iconic picture was constructed using only red, yellow, blue, black, and white pins. The entire agency lent a hand, which is a good thing because each of the over 33000 pushpins had to be pushed in one at a time. Bill and Brian worked together with John Eiberger (design architect), Dan Delaney (producer), and Nicholas Beaudet (director of photography). Shot and edited by Jill Vanc and Petr Novak of Eyepatch Chicago. Paul Bessenbacher and the team at Emoto Los Angeles composed the musical piece, while Dean Hovey of Soundwell contributed to the sonic landscape.

I met ad man David Rittenhouse at MIT last month where we were attending the Emerging Technologies Conference. David is one of the industry's savviest observers of new media. As part of the agency's "neo" division, he devises edgy media plans for Ogilvy clients including IBM. I sat down with him in his New York office last week where he gave a great overview of advertising opportunities afforded by online video. While he is very bullish on branded sites like Nike's Joga, he is leery about the viral advertising on video sharing sites like YouTube. Tonight (5th October) American Express unveils a new TV ad which marks a radical departure for the brand. The animated ad, entitled "Blue Dot" and created by Amex's agency of record, Ogilvy & Mather, is part of the acclaimed "Realise The Potential" campaign, which launched in October 2009. The campaign is based on a core belief that the world would be a better place if more of the untapped potential in it was set free. It marks a significant and striking departure from previous campaigns for the brand (and for the financial industry in general) in both its ideal and its bold look and feel. The campaign aims to get consumers to re-appraise the brand by helping them realise the untapped potential in themselves, the world around them and in the card. . The latest ad carries on this idea, and in a mere 30 seconds neatly outlines the American Express brand philosophy: inspirational as well as aspirational, likeable yet offering superior service - the perfect card for those who want to lead a richer life. As with all "RTP" advertising, this latest ad uses bold, colourful graphics created by O&M creatives Dennis Lewis and Andy Bird, and does not feature cardholders. Previous spots in the campaign have focused on specific benefits and product services offered by American Express, while this is the first pure "Brand Belief" TVC to be aired. The ad will air nationally until the end of the year. Media planning and buying for the campaign is by Mindshare. The campaign runs in five <b>...</b>
