Whether you want to reminisce about your time there or be reassured about a future stay on Okinawa, this video is great to see if you want to get a feel of the island. Of the many locations featured, sites include Mihama, Araha Beach, White Beach, Torii Beach, Kokusai Street, the Chinese Gardens, Kubasaki, Yomitan, and Shuri Castle. For those of you concerned with Japanese reactions to this: rest assured they LOVED it. When we were filming they were all laughing, smiling, and waving. Many stopped to film us filming and asked us for pictures. We love Okinawa and her people; this is an expression of our attachment. For those who are wondering how we filmed an empty Mihama....we showed up at 0700 on a Saturday and only had a few awesome people laughing at us. At both intersections we ran into the street on red lights and got off in time to not obstruct traffic. =) I do not own the song "Party in the USA" and no copyright infringement is intended. We couldn't record as much as we wanted to of the outdoors and scenery due to the constant rain, and the stuff that we chose to do in lieu of beaching was often really boring, or too personal for Youtube stuff (visiting friends, etc). It was really hard to string it all together and I'm sorry if that comes through in the finished product. Okinawa was nice, it's completely different from life in Kyushu, and it was a good relaxing getaway from the stuff both Ryuhei and I have going on here in Fukuoka.

Gyotaku I had made last week here in Okinawa. Lady at the fishing store does a great job. Had a large parrot fish and medium grouper done for $30. She does the impression and then gives you back the fish and touches up the print later. Total turn around time is 1 day. Can't beat it. Great work of art and momento to remember the day. Fish were caught spear fishing.

I went to Okinawa a bit ago to escape Osaka's awful rainy season. It was so beautiful. I couldn't believe how clear the water was. I recommend visiting Okinawa. Even if you can't speak Japanese, there is no need to worry. There is an American base in Okinawa, so it's easy enough to find someone who speaks English. I got a really bad sunburn though...so be careful! Okinawa is almost like a country of it own though. It's really different from Japan. Even the dialect is really different. It was interesting hearing all of the traditional Okinawa music and eating Okinawa food. I really enjoyed it. We took a trip from Saga to Okinawa, and spent 5 days swimming, hiking, snorkeling, meeting friends, cooking, eating, and drinking. We arrived during Obon, a festival that celebrates the annual return of the spirits of deceased relatives, which is held earlier on mainland Japan, so we got to see a lot of festivals, dancing, and live music. The weather was great the whole time we were there, so we got to do pretty much EVERYTHING that was on our list. In the video you can see Hiji Ootaki, a gorgeous waterfall, some DOUBLE RAINBOW action, sugar cane fields, mangroves, and tons of incredible beaches, including Moon Beach. We also met former Jvlogger and Okinawa photographer Anya, who took some fantastic pictures for us, and introduced us to her wonderful family. Anya's work is definitely worth checking out, so please do so here: anyaeblog.com We went snorkeling at Maeda-misaki, which is, apparently, a very popular spot for it. Once the food and drink section starts, check out pictures of Habu-shu, liquor made with a very poisonous Okinawan snake inside. But not so many people know this island's another unique martial art, "Shima." It's said that Shima, also known as Okinawan Sumo, has more than three undreds of years of history. No punches, no kicks. In some ways, Shima is similar to wrestling, Judo and Ssireum (Korean wrestling.) Unlike Sumo in mainland Japan, Shima wrestlers wear traditional uniforms. Going out of the ring or touching the ground will not end the match. While a match, participants keep grabbing each other's sumo belt and try to force opponent's back and both shoulders to the ground to score a point. I went to Okinawa in a long vacation. At that time, I recorded a Jinbei-shark by a movie with 5DMK2. When a Jinbei-shark went along the very front, the spectator raised a voice of the delight. This shark had the length more than 7.5M, and the figure which swam was very elegant. Check out my website for the TV show!! Junko began practicing Ryukyu Dance at the age of five when her mother, also a dancer, began taking Junko along to dance school. Starting with her first performance at the age of seven, at the Yomitan Village Town Hall, Junko had numerous performance experiences during her years in Okinawa. Moving to Tokyo after graduating high school, Junko studied Japanese traditional dance at the Gojo Ryu School while attending college, and she attained a certificate of Natori, Gojo Miyano. Her first performance in that style was at the National Theater in Tokyo in 1985. A member of the Miyagi Ryu Nosho Kai Ryukyu Dance and Music School Junko resides in New York City and performs at cultural events and recitals in the New York metropolitan area, focusing on the Ryukyu Performing Arts. Junko has 28 years' experience dancing, including Japanese and Okinawan dance. She also performs on the Okinawan sanshin and sings traditional Okinawan folk songs. She offers a broad range of programs including lectures, workshops, demonstrations, and other dance and musical performances ranging in duration from 25 minutes to two hours. SUBSCRIBE TO EXCELLENT WORLD WAR II VIDEOS Landing day for Okinawa, the final land battle of the Pacific War, was Easter Sunday, 1 April 1945. The Landing force was the new Tenth Army under Army Lt. Gen. Simon Bolivar Buckner. He commanded two corps, XXIV Corps, with five army divisions, and III Amphibious Corps, with three Marine divisions, all told some 182000 troops. In overall charge was Vice Adm. Raymond A. Spruance, commander of the Fifth Fleet. Okinawa, sixty miles long and from two to twenty eight miles wide, is the largest and most important of the Ryukyu Islands. The 500000 Okinawans were not then considered to be Japanese. Japanese Lt. Gen. Mitsuru Ushijima commanded the Thirty second Army, strength of 77000 troops, who with naval forces and some 20000 Okinawan conscripts provided about 100000 defenders. Ushijima planned a defense in depth, with his main strength in the heavily populated south, and three major defense lines following east west ridgelines. Buckner landed his two corps, each with two divisions in the assault, across surprisingly undefended beaches near Hagushi village on the western side of the narrow waist of the island. The III Corps on the left and XXIV Corps on the right crossed the island almost without enemy contact. The Marines then turned northward and the army headed south.
