www.stompbox.de Heiko over at OKKO in Germany makes some of Europe's (and the world's) best pedals. The Diablo is a classic example. It has tons of tone shaping capability, versatility, it's built well, has great looks and it's fundamental tone is killer. This one's a keeper for me and can compete easily with the higher end of other great drives I have in my possession. This video was made with a Larry Corsa modded Les Paul (Peter Green '59 Burst specs) and a HIWATT Custom 50 SA212 amp. A Shure SM57 handled the microphone duties and Pro Tools 9.02 did the recording honours via an M-Audio ProFire 610. Cheers, Brett K.

OKKO Twin Sonic Overdrive
OKKO Twin Sonic Overdrive The TwinSonic combines a clean boost (MORE!) and low-to-medium-gain overdrive (ROCK!) The overdrive gives you the sound of your (non-master) amp cranked... at any volume. Therefore it is very neutral sounding by itself -- it doesn't change the sonic or dynamic character of your setup. Besides the Gain and Level controls, the TwinSonics overdrive section features two controls for precise fine-tuning. The TONE control affects the mids -- turn it to the left for more lower mids and a fatter, softer tone or to the right for a punchy "in your face" sound with pronounced upper mids. The CUT control rolls of treble when turned clockwise (like in the old Vox amps). The boost part of the TwinSonic provides a clean signal boost up to 20 dB. When used in conjunction with the overdrive, the signal can be boosted before the OD for more gain and sustain or after the OD for a volume boost or both at the same time! OKKO Dominator High Gain Distortion After countless hours of tweaking and improving the circuit, I'm proud to present you the DOMINATOR high gain drive. Aggressive british crunch, classic heavy metal, modern high gain stuff or anything in between -- the Dominator will do the job. This box has nothing in common with those overcompressed, artificial sounding "bedroom metal" distortion pedals that disappear in the mix if you try to use them in a real band situation. Raw natural gain structure, explosive attack, tight low end and great chord definition make the difference -- the Dominator works equally well at home practice or stage level. The active 3-band EQ with switchable mid range frequency provides effective and intuitive control over a broad range of sounds. (For extensive descriptions of the controls please refer to the user manual). Just like the other OKKO drive pedals, the Dominator features an internal voltage doubler. The three gain stages and the EQ stage operate on different individually filtered voltages up to 18 volts for optimal dynamic response and very low noise performance. The Dominator works best in front of a clean amp with some headroom, especially if you use very bass heavy "chugga chugga" settings.

I had many requests for this one - Demo of the New 2011 Okko Dominator (red PCB) and the older Dominator (green PCB) on guitar. 2011 ESP Horizon NT-II (passive JB and 59) into a clean Blackstar Artisan 100 head and a Mesa 4x12 cabinet with V30's. Speaker was mic'd with a Shure SM57 and Sennheiser E609. Signals go to a Mackie mixer then directly into the line-in on the Zoom Q3HD. NO eq or audio controls were added. www.scalpthem.com

This one's a keeper for me and can compete easily with the higher end of other great drives I have in my possession. The Diablo can operate in two modes LO and HI. In HI mode you get a less compressed, more dynamic (and louder) sound. This is what you're hearing here. LO mode is great for more distortion due to its extra compression. LO mode may also be better for 'bedroom' level playing whereas HI mode will enable you to roar on stage. I'll take HI, thanks. :) This video was made with a 2006 Clapton Strat fitted with Mick Brierley 'Burgs' Hand Wound Pickups (see: www.brierleyguitarpickups.com.au) and a HIWATT Custom 50 SA212 amp. OKKO Dominator High Gain Distortion: Charvel to HIWATT SA212
www.stompbox.de Here's a very quick, no frills demo of the mighty OKKO Dominator. The Dominator is made for serious rock and has great attack, gain and EQ versatility. It's not made for low-gain or medium gain; it's made to crush. In fact, you might notice the picture 'shaking'. This was caused by the sound pressure level in the room when I was recording. It was seriously loud. (Sorry, neighbours!) You'll hear a heap of mid shaping possibilities, helped greatly by the three-way mid frequency rocker switch on the top face between the jacks (very important). Watch the demo just for that bit. I'm using a Charvel Music Zoo Custom Shop Koa H (2010) with an SH-5 in the bridge position and a '59n in the neck position. The amp is a HIWATT Custom Shop SA212, I've miked it with an SM57 and a Violet Design The Amethyst (left and right respectively with light panning.) The guitar is in standard tuning because most videos featuring this pedal feature dropped tuning or 7 strings. I will, however, feature a video soon with the ESP T7 tuned to B (with EMG's). Just some minor mindless doodling... unfortunately the video quality is a bit crap, but I think the audio (recorded with a Zoom H4) is good enough to show the differences between the two. It preserves the character of your instruments and is very sensitive to your playing technique. Thanks to the effective and musical controls, the Diablo works equally well with any kind of guitar, amp or playing style. People use it for so many different sounds, you would hardly believe that they use the same pedal. Besides the usual Gain, Tone and Level knobs, the Diablo has some more interesting controls: FEED affects the amount of bass in the input signal. You know the problem: an overdrive sound gets muddy rapidly if the input signal is too bass heavy (that's why the treble booster was invented). With the FEED control you can make even the fattest neck humbucker sound clear and transparent or beef up weak pickups a little. The BODY control takes effect on mids and compression. Another important feature is the HEADROOM SWITCH. Set to the "HI" position, an internal electronic voltage doubler is activated -- the Diablo runs on 18 Volts from a regular 9 V battery or power supply.
