In this video I briefly explain and demonstrate how I used the Kinect to control the massive Melbourne Town Hall Organ. It contains a short excerpt from our performance "Carpe Zythum" November 2011. My project blog: chrisvik.wordpress.com I've created my own software "Kinectar" (http which allows the use of the Kinect to control MIDI devices, ie. playing notes through simple gestures and motion. The Melbourne Town Hall Organ got a referb in the late 90s adding the ability of MIDI messages to active the notes... and so, this happened. Thomas Busteed was a high school student in the Poconos learning how to play the organ and to build organs for a possible career. Ivan Moyer, in his 70s, had built a home around an organ in the Poconos and needed help installing it. "He was praying for help," said Busteed, who met Moyer at a choir practice. "And I was looking for an opportunity." Busteed helped Moyer re-leather and rewire his 1932, eight-rank Whitelegg Moller Organ with 600 pipes and chimes. Fast forward to this year. Busteed, 25, is a student at Lancaster Theological Seminary and is a member of Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster. Moyer has moved to a retirement community in York and sold his organ to the church, at 538 W. Chestnut St. Busteed will perform on the organ in services at 10 and 11:45 am Easter, closing each service with the rousing Widor Toccata.
