ALA's first ever Advocacy Flash Mob and Freeze took place in Jackson Square on Sunday at 5:50 pm amid a downpour that some participants dubbed a "Flash Flood Mob." More than 50 library advocates gathered in front of Saint Louis Cathedral despite the rain to dance and sing "When the Saints Go Marching In" as a lead-up to the Freeze. Most wore t-shirts with library slogans on them to identify themselves as librarians supporting the New Orleans community, just as ALA did in 2006 when it was the first conference to return to NOLA after Hurricane Katrina. Libraries care about communities, and communities should care about libraries. The Freeze Mob was organized by the ALA Think Tank as a #makeithappen event.

Here's the Youth Ministry "Flash Mob" from the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (NCCYM) held in New Orleans in December 2010. It features some of the biggest and brightest Catholic youth ministry speakers, worship leaders, and musicians...as well as 4 Canadians from the Archdiocese of Vancouver. :p It technically wasn't a true "flash mob" but it was effective nonetheless: we performed it to promote the big Youth Ministry Extravaganza variety show that evening (featuring many of the dancers). Special thanks to Joia Farmer for envisioning, planning, and executing the entire project and for inviting us to participate! RED HAT SOCIETY sisters at the "Big Easy Bash" international convention held Aug. 18-20 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside surprised mall shoppers at the Riverwalk Marketplace with a Flash Mob. Hundreds of the hatters gathered in the food court and at 12:30pm, took their red hats out of shopping bags, then danced the Electric Slide as they sang "We Are Family!" (Aug. 21, 2011)

We have been so moved by our students and their families who's lives where completely devastated by Hurricane Katrina; who are still living through the effects of the Hurricane today. This Flash Mob will hopefully be the beginning of a chain of events that will bring awareness to the fact that New Orleans and it's surrounding areas are still very torn up from the storm; to let New Orleans know that we haven't forgotten this great tragedy; to raise lots of money for relief efforts! Meeting information: We will be meeting at the very top of the stair case which leads to the river walk coming up from Jackson Square (A stone's throw away from Cafe du Monde) at 6pm TOMORROW, JULY 14TH. There is a grassy area by the river walk where we can congregate to rehearse to make sure everyone knows the routine, understands when to come in, and how to end the performance! ***SHOW TIME IS AT 7PM Sharp*** After the flash mob itself at 7pm, we will street performing at the bottom of the staircase where we will have met.
