One-legged Wrestler, Anthony Robles, Wins NCAA Wrestling National Title

One-legged wrestler, Arizona State's Anthony Robles wins 125-lbs NCAA Wrestling National Championship. The Sun Devils senior, who was born with only one leg, used two near fall tilts in the first period to down defending champion Matt McDonough of Iowa, 7-1. As the final whistle blew, Robles buried his head in the mat and then looked up to the sky with a smile. "It was huge. I had a lot of butterflies going out there," said Robles. "I've dreamt about stepping on that stage a dozen times, and this whole year I've just been preparing for that moment." The performance helped him earn Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

1937 NCAA Wrestling Tournament

Archival footage from the 1937 NCAA College Wrestling Tournament. Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) won its eighth national championship this year, as the Wrestling Aggies compiled 31 team points. The 1937 title began a string of seven-consecutive NCAA championships for OAMC (including a three-year interruption due to World War II from 1943-45). The 1937 team placed four atop the winners' stand, including the outstanding wrestler, Stanley Henson. A&M also had seven-of-eight wrestlers earn All-America honors. The 1936-37 dual season saw the Aggies go 6-1-1. A&M's 18.5-7.5 win on March 5, 1937, over Central Oklahoma started a NCAA record streak of 76-straight dual wins. 118: Joe McDaniel (Okla. State) v. Secondly, one of the most under-emphasized moves in wrestling but the one Cael Sanderson make a living from...the heal pick. The key to both moves in this video is the subtle direction change that takes places immediately before the actual move. Add these to your offensive repetoire and you will win add a lot. Dziewa Wrestling Room Tour

8/30/2009 Here's a short video tour of my wrestling coach's wrestling room back in PA. My coach's name is John Dziewa. I'm real lucky to know him. My friend Mike Denny took me to John because I needed help and to basically get beat on and to learn how to train and become a real wrestler instead of just someone who wrestles. I learned so much from those guys, they changed my life and helped me discover what makes wrestling the greatest sport in the world. John has a son, Josh Dziewa who'll be a senior in high school this year. When I first met Josh he was 3 years old and since then he's been an absolute animal on the mat and he still has a passion for the sport, it's great to see. I'm real proud of him and I have supreme confidence in him. He has the work ethic and the attitude of a champion and that's why he earns yellow medals. That's what America needs, that's what wrestling needs - more hammers with the courage to go out there and work hard and look to dominate, put on a show and win the yellow medal, not just "get a medal" or be an All-American or a world medalist or even an Olympian. We need more wrestlers who are going after the yellow medals and nothing less. It takes a lot of courage to do that, and yeah it's a lot harder to do it and it takes a lot more work but that's the only way wrestling in America is gonna grow as a sport and that's how we're gonna catch up to the Russians, and it starts at the youth level with the mentality. A video tribute I created, along with the help from other SportsKnight members, to celebrate the life of Aaron Wernimont. Aaron was a two time NCAA National Champion and three time All American who suddenly passed away on March 13, 2012. Not only was Aaron an outstanding wrestler, but he was also an amazing husband, son, brother, friend and student. I hope this video helps those who are in pain and missing Aaron. But even if you didn't know him, you can learn a thing or two about a wonderful guy who truly lived life to the fullest.
