The country's rugged natural settings are home to a staggering array of wildlife, including more than 21000 species of higher plants, 200 species of mammals, and 700 species of birds. Papua New Guinea's indigenous clans are linguistically just as diverse; more than 800 languages are spoken within the nation's borders. These numerous clans also hold the key to conserving both their cultural and natural wealth of their country, specifically because they control approximately 90 percent of the nation's territory through a system of traditional land tenure. Because almost all of the land in Papua New Guinea is owned by its people, and not by the government, conservation efforts need to be approved and enforced by the local landowners. Crater Mountain is one of these landowner and NGO cooperative conservation initiatives in PNG.

Spaztique's Walfas Frame-By-Frame/PNG Tutorial
I hope you boxed the living crap out of boxing day, because I got another gift for you peeps: how to make a Walfas video if you DON'T/CAN'T use Camstudio. All you need is create.swf, an image editor like Gimp or Photoshop, and a video editing program. Resources (sans AndySnap, linked below) are linked in the previous tutorial. Oh, and one more thing about .pngs: they render really, REALLY fast compared to video. Though, as I said, complex animations are a little more time consuming (but from watching our somewhat unfamiliar friends getting clobbered by Chen in the png test, you'll notice that it's well worth it). EDIT: Wanna speed up framing pngs to sound-barrier-breaking levels? Get desktop image capturing software! I'm currently experimenting with AndySnap, and HOLY CRAP is it great for making complex animations. Here's the link: www.bigbeanbag.net

April 2008 With up to 3% of the population infected by HIV/AIDS, the disease is running rife in Papua. With this figure set to double, campaigners are calling for international attention. Local leader, Agus Alua, of the Papuan People's Assembly claims "this issue is as bad as genocide in West Papua." However, reports indicate that the disease has spread as a result of high-risk sexual behaviour that can be tracked back to brothels, illegal fishermen and tradesmen, both attracting prostitution. Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea
Video by John Boyle www.walindifebrina.com The coral reefs around Walindi are extraordinarily rich. A recent coral count of Kimbe Bay revealed an incredible 413 species of hard coral. This is over half the total world species in one Bay, a truly remarkable statistic which makes Kimbe Bay the "Coral Capital of the World". Over 900 species of fish have been recorded and this number will continue to grow as more research is done. Kimbe Bay can be accessed from Walindi Resort and the liveaboard MV FeBrina.

Analyzing preliminary data from a 7.1 earthquake that struck at 3:04pm local time (5:04 UTC) on December 14th, 2011. It was originally credited as a 7.3 and corrected about 30 minutes later.
