For the first time since 2007, India and Pakistan are set to open a historic border crossing for commercial traffic passing through the two nations. The "integrated check post," as it is known, close to Wagah, the only road crossing between the antagonistic neighbours, is the first of 13 border posts set to open following years of negotiations between the two sides. The opening of the crossing at Attari could see the number of trucks entering Pakistan increase from 150 to 800 a day, greatly boosting business on both sides of the border. Al Jazeera's Prerna Suri reports from the Wagah border.

Al Jazeera has managed to track down one of the leaders of the Pakistani Taliban hiding in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountains. Faqir Mohammad told Al Jazeera that his men are waiting to see what the Pakistani government will do before agreeing to peace talks. The conversation though, seems to confirm that the group has splintered and no longer has a unified chain of command. Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder has this exclusive report.

A devastating avalanche that engulfed a Pakistan army base in the Himalayas has left 135 feared dead, the Pakistan army says. A security official told Sky sources more than 15 bodies have been recovered from the Gayari sector of Siachen in the country's north. The avalanche buried more than 135 soldiers at the base early this morning. More than 12 hours after the disaster at the entrance to the Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram mountain range, no survivors had been found. US rescue team has arrived to help the pakis. The Karakoram Highway (KKH) runs from Kashgar in Western China to Islamabad in Pakistan, and isn't so much a highway as a 'high road'. It took a stunning 20 years to finish the road, and even today it continues to suffer from extreme weather and environmental disasters. The KKH runs through the highest concentration of soaring mountain peaks and raging rivers in the world, and is generally considered to be among the most spectacular areas on our planet. Traveling here isn't for the faint hearted, although transportation has improved significantly in the past decades. In October 2010 I had the chance to travel the Karakoram Highway. Although Pakistan had suffered its worst floods in recent history the same year, most parts of the road were still intact. Nevertheless, traveling the road proved a massive challenge and also a great adventure. As these events had scared off many tourists and travelers, I found myself among locals for nearly all of the time. While addressing the passing-out parade of Pakistan Army recruits from Balochistan, he said, "choose the path of peace, as this is the only way for the progress of people of Balochistan and Pakistan."
