Paralympic Swimming update: 2011 Australian Championships

14 A-qualifying times and seven world records were posted by swimmers with a disability. That was the impressive outcome from the 2011 Australian Swimming Championships held in Sydney recently. Our Paralympic swim team now has its sights set on the London Paralympic Games in 18 months' time. Before that, however, are the Para Pan Pacific Championships, in Canada, in August. Australia's team of 23 for the Para Pan Pacs will feature six debutants and big things are expected from our swimmers in Edmonton and beyond. .

Paralympic Dressage ambition for rehomed rescue horse

Find out more about rehoming a horse from World Horse Welfare bit.ly A horse rescued by World Horse Welfare could take an East Anglian disabled rider to the Paralympics. Hermione, a 15.2hh dark bay mare, was rehomed in 2007 from our Hall Farm Rescue and Recovery Centre by disabled rider Debbie Rounce, who was born with just one hand. Hermione came to Hall Farm as a 2 year-old after being found abandoned. She was very underweight with a large infestation of worms. Hermione and Debbie are going from strength to strength and there has even been some suggestion that the pair could reach a high enough standard to take part in the 2016 Paralympic Games, reinforcing our message that you can find a quality horse by rehoming.

Wheelchair Basketball Paralympic Qualifiers

It was a day of mixed fortunes for our men's and women's wheelchair basketball teams at the Asia Oceania Championships in Goyang, Korea. After winning their first game against China, the Gliders squandered the lead late in their second match against Japan, losing it by just three points (59 - 56). The Rollers got off to an ideal start in their opening two matches, with crushing wins over both Chinese Taipei (88 - 37) and New Zealand (104 - 27). Both our teams need a top two finish in the tournament if they're to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics.
