Happy Harmonies - Bosko's Parlor Pranks (1934)
An MGM cartoon by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising. This is essentially what a Warner Bros. color cartoon featuring Bosko would be like. This is the first Bosko cartoon that Harman and Ising produced at MGM. In this cartoon and the next Bosko cartoon, "Hey Hey Fever", Bosko appears just as he does in the Warner cartoons. Due to time constraints to fulfill their contractual obligation to MGM in their first year of production, Harman and Ising hardly used any new animation in this film. Most of the animation in this cartoon is reused animation from the Warner Bros. Bosko cartoons.

this is our milking set-up..copied from another dairy.. we made a few changes and feel this is almost the perfect system...moves them fast and easy and no chance to pass eachother on the deck..single file is now the rule! it takes little effort other than making sure they fully enter each stall. smaller goats dont always engage the gate fully, so following along ensures there are no traffic accidents! they learn fast not to back up and some choose to jump off the back deck rather than walk the full length. we are plotting an auto-feeding system and hope to soon have that installed... milking alone and filling all 34 boxes takes up a lot of time.

Bing Crosby - "Unchained Melody" (Vintage Parlor Echo Mix)
When I heard there was another Bing Crosby radio anthology, I was skeptical. I LOVE Bing Crosby, but there have been so many re-issues of the same old material that I did not have high expectations. Instead, I found nearly 200 previously unreleased masterpieces. On that same line of reasoning, when I saw that he did "Unchained Melody" back in the 50s....I didn't even know the song was that old....I thought it would be totally incongruous to his voice. Happily, I was surprised. His performance is AMAZING!! The simplicity of emotion is incredible, and there are moments where he comes as close to belting that I've ever heard....which is a big contrast in itself. Anyway, here is a mix with the voice brought forward and some echo added so that is it not exactly the same as the original recording.....but really the original is better than this. I have no connection with the recording other than as a fan, but you should try "Bing Crosby CBS Radio Recordings (1954-56)" before it is out of print. It is truly a masterpiece.

Washburn Model 1915 Brazilian Rosewood Parlor Guitar
This is a video that of the Washburn Model 1915 Parlor guitar listed on eBay scheduled to close on 2/28/2010. Please forgive my playing, I am not trying to win any contests, just show you generally how this guitar sounds. I will take this video off line after the guitar sells. While much of this is me simply plunking away, the melody that might seem familiar is a Woodie Guthrie song called "Vigilante Man" The first time I heard this was as performed by the band "Nazareth". They of course covered it much better than I. You should be able to see this in HQ by clicking on that button. I haven't used any fancy microphones for this, just the microphone built into my Canon digital camera. Until the guitar is put into proper shape and has new strings, you probably would not hear much of an improvement with fancy microphones. The overall character of the instrument is what we want to share here.
