Kili Senegal Parrot - Play Dead and other tricks

ParrotWizard.com Join the parrot forum for discussions about senegals, parakeets, other parrots, tricks, training, care, and more. http Kili the Senegal Parrot plays dead when I pretend to shoot her with my fingers. Also includes, shake, wave, nod, turn around, fetch, and the bat. You can try to teach these parrot tricks to your bird too. Play dead is where I point fake finger gun at bird and it drops on back and lays there until I release. Shake is actually shake head no trick. Nod is to raise head up and down for yes. Wave is to pick up foot and wave back. Turn around is to spin 360 degrees on the perch or floor. Fetch is the retrieve command to bring any small object back to me or where I designate. The bat trick is where the parrot hangs upside down from my hand like a bat. Since everyone likes the play dead trick so much, I recorded a newer/better video of Kili playing dead. Now she does it better than ever and I highly recommend you see it as well: www.youtube.com Here is Kili's newest flight tricks medley: www.youtube.com Since everyone is asking about how I trained the bird to perform these tricks. Here are a few videos that should help you get started. If the budgie can do it, any other parrot can probably do it better. We used the same methods (but possibly more refined) on the budgie as I used on the Senegal to teach her these 9 months ago. Tool-Using Parrot! ______________ (youtube.com/cherylrampton) Smart Amazon Parrot

Poncho, my smart 30 year old double yellow headed amazon parrot, uses one of his feathers to help scratch his head! He was not taught to do this, he figured it out on his own! He will also use other objects besides feathers for the same purpose, like pencils, straws, toys, etc. Of course my fingers are his favorite tool for grooming those hard to reach areas, but I am not available 24 hours/day, so he has learned to improvise :) To see more vids of Poncho check out this playlist: www.youtube.com Here is a link to a website about research being done with new caledonian crows and tool use: users.ox.ac.uk be sure to watch this amazing video of betty the crow taking a straight wire and bending it to make a hook to retrieve a bucket of food: users.ox.ac.uk read the research on the webpage to fully appreciate the video! Here are some definitions of tool use: Jane Goodall defines tool use as "the use of an external object as a functional extension of mouth or beak, hand or claw, in the attainment of an immediate goal." John Alcock defines tool use as "the manipulation of an inanimate object, not internally manufactured, with the effect of improving the animal's efficiency in altering the form or position of some separate object." Ben Beck defines tool use as "the external employment of an unattached environmental object to alter more efficiently the form, position, or condition of another object, another organism, or the user itself when the user holds or carries the tool during ...

Killing Parrots Softly

This is the edited version which contain both Chinese and English subtitles of the soundtrack, Imprisoned Bird. A short clip to raise awareness of the abuse and neglect of parrots. The contrasting nature-culture, love-apathy, care-cruelty, etc dialectics are raised to highlight humans' exploitative relationships with these beautiful, intelligent yet innocent sentient beings known to us as parrots. The soundtrack is a Chinese song by Peng Ling, named Imprisoned Bird. It fits the contexts here very well, singing the loss of love, freedom and of neglect. If anyone has any issues with the copyright of the photos used, please email me. Thank you.

Parrot AR.Drone Quadricopter Controlled by iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Parrot shows me their AR.Drone, a quadricopter that can be controlled by iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. It even has two cameras that can broadcast the images back to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. AR.Drone generates its own Wi-Fi network (no need for an Internet connection nor a router) at which you simply connect an iPod touch or iPhone. Once the "AR.FreeFlight" application has been downloaded from the APP Store, the iPod touch/iPhone turns into a piloting station. Touch the take-off button on the screen of the iPod touch/iPhone and the Parrot AR.Drone starts its engine, takes-off, stabilizes a few feet from the ground and waits for the pilot's instructions. Parrot AR.Drone moves forward, back or sidewise depending on the inclinations of the iPod touch/iPhone. Another command button on the right of the iPod touch/iPhone screen enables the pilot to make the AR.Drone rise, go down or rotate. If flying this thing isn't cool enough, they added a gaming aspect thanks to augmented reality using the AR.Drone's built-in cameras. There will be games in the app store that complements the AR.Drone. Parrot AR.Drone will be available for purchase at selected retailers in September in the United States for $299 MSRP.

Parrot Sings Seven Songs at Disney World

Disney's Animal Kingdom's Flights of Wonder continues to amaze guests of all ages. Especially when it comes to one particular star, Groucho, the singing parrot. Several years ago, he was named the World's Best Singing Parrot on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Today he is still one in a million, able to sing seven full songs which include: "How Much is that Doggy in the Window?", "Camptown Races", "Yankee Doodle Dandy", "Alouetta" and "Jingle Bells". Hatched in 1986 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and raised by Theresa Barylock, Groucho's ability to articulate will simply amaze you. The animal care staff would like for us to warn you that owning a parrot does not guarantee that you will end up with a singing sensation like Groucho. For the most part, parrots chew, bite and squawk loudly. So, instead of trying to train one, your best bet is to visit or become a fan of Groucho. Between his many words and phrases such as "Look ma! No hands!" you will have plenty to tell your friends about your encounter with this extraordinary bird on your visit to Walt Disney World.
