Fever - Peggy Lee

The late great Peggy Lee, a favorite of mine (I'm a huge Jazz fan). Peggy was a singer in The Benny Goodman Orchestra before going solo. You may also know her as the voice of the Siamese Cats in Disneys 'Lady and The Tramp.'

Grateful Dead - An amazing moment in time captured in Las Vegas in 1994. This one is all Jerry, frail yet strong and full of emotion. In my opinion, the solo alone is possibly one of the most poetic of Jerry's later years.

Buddy Holly on the Arthur Murray Dance Party 12/29/57

Buddy Holly and the Crickets made an appearance on the Arthur Murray Dance Party on December 29, 1957. It was unusual to see a band like the Crickets performing on the show. This video includes the complete introduction by Kathryn Murray. Another interesting note...this footage is used on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" compilations. Clark claims that the footage of the only appearance that Holly and the Crickets made on Bandstand in the fall of 1958 was destroyed in the 70s. They performed "Heartbeat". It's a shame that the footage was destroyed because it was Buddy's last appearance on TV before his death.

Peggy Lee - Fever

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com Peggy Lee's alluring tone, distinctive delivery, breadth of material, and ability to write many of her own songs made her one of the most captivating artists of the vocal era, from her breakthrough on the Benny Goodman hit "Why Don't You Do Right" to her many solo successes, singles including "Mañana," "Lover" and "Fever" that showed her bewitching vocal power, a balance between sultry swing and impeccable musicianship. Born Norma Egstrom in Jamestown, North Dakota, she suffered the death of her mother at the age of four and endured a difficult stepmother after her father remarried. Given her sense of swing by listening to Count Basie on the radio, she taught herself to sing and made her radio debut at the age of 14. She made the jump to Fargo (where she was christened Peggy Lee), then to Minneapolis and St. Louis to sing with a regional band. Lee twice journeyed to Hollywood to make her fortune, but returned unsuccessful from both trips. She finally got her big break in 1941, when a vocal group she worked with began appearing at a club in Chicago. While there, she was heard by Benny Goodman, whose regular vocalist Helen Forrest was about to leave his band. Lee recorded with Goodman just a few days later, debuting with the popular "Elmer's Tune" despite a good deal of nerves. That ...

Peggy Lee - Is That All There Is (Original Stereo)

"Is That All There Is" was composed by the legendary rock and roll songwriting duo of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Leiber and Stoller were so identified with the early rock and roll era with songs like "Hound Dog", "Jailhouse Rock", "Searchin", and so many others that when this song was released, it took much of the pop world by surprise. It was first recorded by a man named Dan Daniels in 1968, but the following year Peggy Lee took the song all the way to #11 on the charts in October of '69 making this her first pop chart hit since "Fever" back in 1958. Leiber and Stoller were inspired to write the song from a story written by Thomas Mann in 1896 entitled "Disillusionment". This recording earned Peggy a Grammy Award and it has since been enshrined in the Grammy Hall Of Fame.

I just found these two songs on an old betamax tape I recorded back in 1985! I saw her on this tour and she was amazing. She invited the audience to ask her questions. A very personable and classy lady. I asked her if the almost floor length string of pearls she was wearing were real - she said "No honey, but I have some just as long back home that are!"

Elmer's Tune - Peggy Lee And The Benny Goodman Orchestra

This is a song by Peggy Lee and the Benny Goodman orchestra, recorded in the 1940s. ELMER'S TUNE Glenn Miller - words and music by Elmer Albrecht, Sammy Gallop and Dick Jurgens Why are the stars always winkin' and blinkin' above? What makes a fellow start thinkin' of fallin' in love? It's not the season, the reason is plain as the moon It's just Elmer's Tune What makes a lady of eighty go out on the loose? Why does a gander meander in search of a goose? What puts the kick in a chicken, the magic in June? It's just Elmer's Tune Listen Listen There's a lot you're liable to be missin' Sing it Swing it Any old way and any old time The hurdy-gurdies, the birdies, the cop on the beat The candy maker, the baker, the man on the street The city charmer, the farmer, the man in the moon All sing Elmer's Tune
