Father is Croatian, mother is Serbian. From WWD profile December 20, 2010: "Since the fashion industry first began asking "Who's the blonde girl?" at the Paris men's shows in June (2010), 19-year- old Serbian Australian model Andrej Pejic has emerged as a poster boy for fashion androgyny. His long, platinum blonde hair and feminine features caught the attention of, among others, Steven Meisel and Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Jean Paul Gaultier not only booked Pejic for his spring 2011 men's show, he also cast him in his spring ad campaign alongside Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova. Now it looks like Marc Jacobs may also be going the guess-the-gender route for his Marc by Marc Jacobs spring campaign. Pejic recently returned from shooting the ads in Marrakech with Juergen Teller alongside look-alike Latvian (female) model Ginta Lapina. Born in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pejic and his family fled the war-torn region in the Nineties before settling as refugees in Melbourne, Australia."

Pejic has had a startling career as a model since this man also models women's wear thanks to his androgynous looks. The person who "discovered" Pejic on a street in Melbourne, Australia, first thought Pejic was a woman. Now, Pejic models both men's and women's clothes. A chat with Andrej Pejic.
Earlier this year I happened to get backstage at the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2011-2012 show. It was early and Andrej Pejic getting his hair done. He was alone and unoccupied so I thought it would be a great time to say hello and ask him for a quick interview. Isaac Hindin Miller (of isaaclikes.com) was out front in his seat, texting me the interview questions. I didn't have a pen on me so recorded the thing on my camera to transcribe later. This is the result. (The sound quality is pretty terrible so you may have to crank the volume! Otherwise, see below.) KL: How much has your life changed this year? AP: Obviously I'm more independent now, I'm living away from home, um and yeah, I'm traveling a lot. KL: Where are you based? AP: Um... It'll probably be New York. I'm moving there next month. I can't wait. KL: Favourite job so far? AP: That's hard. I'll have to give you top 3 maybe. Definitely going to Morocco for Marc Jacobs, shooting the Gaultier campaign and um Vogue Paris I think. KL: How do you enjoy being the most famous androgynous male model in the entire world? AP: (Laughs.) Um, well it's quite a specific category. Well, look. It's a job for me, and if it means I work more then I feel great about it I think, so yeah. It's good. KL:How many shows have you got this week (so far)? AP: There's still an option... so I have this... about four or five? KL: Are you doing New York [Fashion Week]? AP: Yeah, I should be in New York KL: Awesome, we'll be in New York too. AP <b>...</b>

Andrej Pejic: Hi, my name is Andrej Pejic. I'm from Australia and I'm 19 years old. IT MTV: The start AP: I was about nearly turned 17, I was about to turn to 17 and I was working at McDonald and looking to move on. I had an agent approached me in Australia. And when I finished high school in 2009, they sent me out to Europe. That the first Paris men show is kind of where it all began. And yeah, since then it's been a lot of good time. IT MTV: Walks as female X male AP: For me it's all works. I mean, I guess women show is a 'lil bit more glamorous. And you know, more money goes into them. So it gets more of rush. But you know there's some really amazing men designers at the moment too. IT MTV: Enjoy to listen to AP: Gaga. At the moment I listen to a lot of electro, like house music a lot.
